Wall/feed feature going away

Count us among those who had hoped Notes would appear on the Flyover............and among those disappointed to see it go away.

irishrose22 - replying to you but not pointing at you, simply answering your response and speaking to all whiners who act like SLS is deplorable - anyone who says it's clunky, in reality haven't figured out how to use it. Let's see. Doesn't allow direct replies stated below. That is bullshit. It is called messaging on this platform. The profile icon is clickable and wala a direct response. We get a few a month that way. So what if SLS isn't Zuckerburg's site. For what you need, SLS is better. OMG I can't "LIKE" something on SLS. Do not even start on other sites, we are on at least 3. Their setups are stupid, clunky and difficult to use compared to SLS and guess what no traceability, EFFECTIVE cert systems etc? Ultimately, they simply don't work in their core mission of attracting people and serving swingers. No one disputes SLS is the largest population of real swingers and source of information/experience. So negative whiners, leave SLS and have that interface you think is better, that suits your vision of the world and happy hunting! You are going to need it. Whoops take your negativity with you.

On the flyover removal, we would be another member that likes that feature. Hell if notes were added to it it would be dang near perfect in our book. Saves a lot of time for us and waaaaay better than the other sites LOL

"I actually found the Wall amusing."

I think when initially implemented the Wall was at least semi-informative and helpful - you only saw people on your Friends list (the new Friends, not the old Friends that is now Favorites) and people within 50 miles of your profile location.

But having to wade through posts from all over God's green earth made the Wall useless. And hiding it on a tab amongst all the upcoming cruises just made it invisible.

Discontinuing the Wall is probably for the best - it will do away with clutter and force free members into paid membership if they want to interact online with other SLS members.

"I actually found the Wall amusing. I would not eliminate it but would improve it."

Ditto that, especially the amusing part. Admittedly I'm easily amused.

That said, if suggestions to management by members are considered and some actually acted on, I would suggest that Free Members not be allowed to post or view posts on the Wall. Free members can't view/post in the Forum, I don't think they can post/view in Hot Dates, yet it appears thatthey can post and presumably view posts on/in the Wall.

I think that New/Free members must be able to post there BEFORE their profiles have been reviewed/approved. I say that because some posts are by Free/New Members with absolutely nothing in their profile. As in completely empty, no location, age, weight, and none of the other sections/fields, including Tag Line have anything at all. Zip. Zero. Nada. Completely blank.

Maybe some people approving profiles approve completely blank profiles...?

bring back the old mail system where the birdie showed up and it was like an actual email.... messaging system now ugggg......

Hmm, I actually found the Wall amusing. I would not eliminate it but would improve it. Then again every time they “improve “ something it ends up worse.

This is a clunky old website but it still seems to be where most "real" lifestyle people check in every day.

Other sites may look and function better but we've had more luck finding parties and meeting people here. YMMV

"So OK whiners...what sites are sooo much better. We are on a few and they all have issues in our book. Lay it out there "

Not sure who is whining, looks like a normal forum discussion. Never been on SDC website, just the app....it at least seems functional. Kas has a decent site with newer looking features, but I didn't like their forums. SLS is a good site, they just haven't updated the look and background coding to stay current. They have good features and some that are shitty or pointless, but overall, it works for me ...plus I already have a lifetime membership.

I use the flyover feature all the time...long press on phone screen. I prefer to not click on profiles.

Eliminating the flyover feature, which then requires you to view the profile, is gonna generate a lot of unwanted messages and/or blocks if WVM isn't disabled.

Read the Forum, some people get upset when people look at their profile and don't message.

"... Flyover feature ... it does not work on touchscreens ... You have to touch and hold (long-press) ..."

I use a laptop - have no clue how to do much anything fancy on a phone or tablet - but that sounds suspiciously like the flyover feature can work on a touchscreen if you know about the "touch and hold (long press)" action.

Why are you going to punish the rest of us because some people do not know how to use their device?

The flyover feature is very helpful - wish it was available everywhere on SLS.

Ironic that this topic started because this site is removing a feature “based on feedback from our members). And a feature members asked for, and applauded upon implementation, is being removed.

I like the flyover so I don’t have to click on a profile whose age, location, or other statistic does not match what we’re looking for. Saves so much time when scrolling through event attendees, who is on line, or searches.

"Yes, you have to view their profile. That is how all new sections of the site will be"

What in the hell for?

At least before I could save myself the trouble to just see a quick preview of the profile.

Why does SLS so often disable or remove functions its members find useful and then act bewildered when we don't like the ones we are left with?

We know better than to name competitors in here.

"the Flyover feature............................... it will be phased out"

Why am I not surprised one of the handier features of this site is being removed?

<p><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family:open sans,sans-serif; font-size:14px">Yes, you have to view their profile. That is how all new sections of the site will be. You are referring to the Flyover feature, and as you stated above, it does not work on touchscreens because they have no mouse pointer. You have to touch and hold (long-press), which defeats the purpose of having it, so it will be phased out.</span></p>

"As far as I see, the only big difference is that the forums are divided into sections, topics and threads and the wall is more free-form posting."

Exactly. What is the point of just a random pile of crap from who knows who and where?

These are the 3 most recent posts on "my wall":

  1. "Any females got a hall pass"

From - ??? I can see miles but that's it. At least in some parts of the site I can hold down on the thumbnail and see their ages and where they are from. Nope not here. I must view their profile. As it turns out they are from Levittown PA, 881 miles away. useless

  1. "I'm truly blessed! I gained range of motion after neck fusion surgery. My shallow sand point well pump started sucking air & needed a new well punched. I could not afford it, so the church I go to paid for it. I am a truly blessed sinner"

From some single dude somewhere. Ok. Thanks for sharing.

  1. "Any women want to play this weekend" from some single male somewhere which i can't see.

I scrolled through the next couple dozen. Only one contains enough info to tell me where they are from (they included it in their text).

Seriously Wayne who would find any of this useful - for ANYTHING?

People, mostly Free Members use it similar to Hot Dates. Admittedly the guy who posts virtually every day "Looking to lick and tongue kiss a pretty pussy today!!! Cum sit on my face and wettt this beard up!!!" might be a paid member. The flyover feature doesn't work on The Wall.

People (Free and paid members) are using it to bring attention to their profile, saying they were interested in people in their area. People searching in their area would find profile types they are interested in by searching for that type of profile. There are criteria in the already existing search feature.

People were using it to post outside contact information- mainly Free Members who could not otherwise communicate with other members. The Wall was (is?) not very well monitored by SLS staff and those posts were often up for days- until someone (or 2 or 3) reported it, and then it often took many hours and as much as a 48 hours before it was removed. Yes, a couple I reported were up for days afterwards. When I suggested to management they should monitor the Wall, their response was, for all intents and purposes: "Don't tell us what to do". So I quit reporting for a long time.

I believe many but not necessarily all of the posts giving outside contact info were professionals if ya know what I mean.

People were asking questions on The Wall that have the answers in various SLS Forum topics. Usually asked by Free Members because to the best of my knowledge, Free Members can't post elsewhere on the site.

Wayne - maybe it's because the rest of the site is clunky compared to your competitors out there. The look is just incredibly dated. I've said it before and I'll say it again. This site continues to look like it was coded in 1995 Frames. The wall never felt cohesive with the rest of the experience on here. The Forums are ancient and don't allow directed replies or even likes. Instead of just adding random features and hoping people adopt them, why not actually revitalize the site into an exoerience that flows and is much more seamless. While SLS may have the largest number of members, I know for a fact from chatting with other on competing platforms that the user interface and dated look turned them away from signing up here first.

<p>I've never fully understood why people that use the forums don't like the wall? They both are a place for people to post comments for others to see. As far as I see, the only big difference is that the forums are divided into sections, topics and threads and the wall is more free-form posting.</p>

<p>I think since we posted that banner we have gotten more feedback to keep the wall than we ever did to get rid of it. <br />
</p>

<p>We also got a lot of feedback along the lines of: "What's a wall?"</p>

Seymour, TN, Us

Oh my what will happen to all the people from hundreds of miles away that I never chatted with or looked at that mysteriously are in my wall?

Fredonia, NY, Us

Yeah, we saw the red banner across the top.

We never used it because we were waiting for the new features it was supposed to have - we were waiting for them to kick in. No sense in starting to use something before it's ready, right?

Windermere, FL, Us

I had forgotten "The Wall" even existed. When it first came out it was annoying garbage that dominated the home screen. It's still garbage, but at least you had to go looking for it once you hid it away.

I never once saw one bit of positive feedback about it, although once they implemented the ability to remove it from the home screen the complaints (on the fora, anyway) seemed to die off.

Oh well.
