[LOCKED]Bring back the mail

Newport News, VA, Us

@softtail - True, we can communicate using the new system but I don't think we can communicate well with other members. The new system lacks the subtlety and nuance possible with the email system. To us, it's a brutal and terse system. We lost a lot of functionality associated with the email system which are completely lacking in the IM system and it does not appear that management really cares.

We will wait and see but, as others have said, have to look at alternatives which may provide us the functionality we desire.

we agree with 2muchfunclub2. Since the upgrade we have been able to communicate with multiple people without issue including those who send one liners.

This has always been our favorite site. We are VERY long time members - since 2003 and have seen this site go through many iterations. This new mail/message system is the absolute WORST modification we have seen to date!! Why did you throw-out the BABY with the BATH WATER!! We have used the e-mail for 99.99% of our communications with other members. We use our cell phone for phone calls! This is SO BAD, we are actively looking at the other sites we have been on over the years.

To Management - I would love to hear from you.

Like Rabbit/Scamp, we are back after being 'banished' for saying 'something' wrong against the TOS (still trying to figure out what it was). By the way, STILL hate the IM "upgrade".

I will speak up if I am very pleased or very displeased. Pretty much nobody here in that former category :-)

While the vast majority of people posting in the forums on this subject are vehement about their hatred of the new system we are personally not having any problems adjusting and making it work for us.

We have quite a few friends from this site who we have actually met in real life. Only one is upset about losing the email. The rest are getting on with their lives and adapting to the new message system.

Just like in most businesses... only the unhappy customers speak up.

My cut is that it is still fairly easy to separate the wheat from the chaff here.

In spite of the lack of email, a profile is still fairly telling and it hasn't yet taken but more than a couple messages and a profile read to determine if there is interest in meeting.

There is little point any more in blocking free members since they can't comminicate with you anyway. Even when that wasn't the case we didn't block them because we are here to meet people and we base our interest on interactions rather than assumptions .

We are with TomandDiane on the free members. We hid ourselves from free members some time ago. In the big picture the price to pay is relatively cheap. If you can't pony up the approximately $40 bucks for a short term membership that's very telling to us. A) you are probably just a lurker trying to get off. B) you are hiding something from your spouse, most likely the wife. C) if you can't pony up the money to join do you have the financial ability to split a bar tab, dinner and possible a hotel room for the evening.

On other web sites? Yes, we maintain membership in one other. With the exception of a thriving and growing single male population the other place is DEAD. They have a chat room where years ago you had to wait in line to get in. They would throw you into a main chat room waiting area. Now? There are generally about 10 people in chat at any one time. Just our two cents the age demographic we are interested in is aging out or just not taking care of themselves enough to really get out and engage. LOL we are not swim suit models but we take care of ourselves, clean up well and most importantly show up when we say we will :)

We also highly prefer the mail option. Never cared for IM. Please bring it back

We blocked free members before SLS did away with the e-mail, as most of those profiles tended to be wannabe's or fakes. Wish SLS would bring the e-mail back, but looks like they want to cater to the IM & video chat crowd.

lcmim - That's a good idea. Actually it's a great idea under any circumstances. Nothing good can come from giving a new free member any information at all.

None of this will change unless the membership has a card to play.
Suggestion:
We can not communicate with free members anyway so having our profiles available for their perusal provides nothing for us. It does act as bait to try and sucker them into SLS.
In TOOLS under Privacy Features there is the ability to block Free Members.
If enough of us refuse to be bait, it will reduce the likelihood of new people joining.

I just submitted a formatted support request. The system converted it into an unformatted, strung together lines of text. Ugh. This is the result:

"We have tried the new IM system and it is really lacking in usability. The limited character count per "message" causes even short communications to be broken up into hard to read chunks. IMs cannot be formatted and text appears strung together which degrades readability. The IM system does not tell which messages have been read nor can we "unread" them so that our partner can review them later. All in all, the IM system is a real step backward in usability and functionality. One of the things we really look for in people is how well they use the language to communicate with us. We prefer a well thought out, properly spelled, properly formatted communication. It gives us a better sense of who the people are sending us a note. We have lost all that information in the new IM-only system. We really wish you would reconsider your decision. If you want the phone/tablet app to be IM only, that might work. However, for your web-based application, we would heartily recommend bringing email functionality back to SLS. Thanks. Name1 and Name2" (note that I removed our names for the Forum post.)

They have already closed without comment both our previous Support Tickets on this subject and expect the same to happen this time. However, it can't hurt to inundate their support system with requests. Perhaps if enough of us submit enough requests they will either re-think the decision or kick us all off the site!

We’ve been members of the 3rd largest site for over a year and have let our membership expire. Not fans at all.

Yes...Please bring back the old email system.....It worked fine....

I'm cracking up. They'll ruin their message system and not tell a soul. They'll give everyone a pre-written form response if they dare complain. They seem to not care about anything, right? !!!UNTIL!!! we post something to give people an idea of the most popular swinger sites in their area and suddenly they care so much that the post is deleted in 5 minutes. They obviously still care about their money, just not the people who give it to them. :)

We joined “the 3rd largest swinger website in the world”. They seem to be aware that they are not strong in our region, so they are offering discounted membership rates.

I feel really bad that I have not even seen email sent as it automatically gets put into this IM system. Apologies gang, I’m not ignoring you all— I just do not get the IM nonsense.

"...that would be crazy talk."

It's not paranoia if they really are after you.

Fresno, CA, Us

Of course, one might argue that SLS implemented the trouble ticket system in order to keep a lot of complaints swept under the rug, rather than being aired on the fora, in public.

But that would be crazy talk.

Birmingham, MI, Us

The only way to communicate on here is IM? Doesn’t work for me. Closing membership once it expires. What? Running out of space on server? Sorry but poor decision

New Orleans, LA, Us

We were taken offline for 24 hours for posting complaints here about the IM system and lack of email. In his reply, Wayne reiterated that the correct method to express your opinion is to submit a ticket and mentioned they have received thousands so far.

The takeaway is, keep sending tickets if you want your voices heard, posting here may result in suspension of your profile.

The new message feature is horrible. the message box is small, it sends the message when you hit return resulting in a string of messages, can't write anything of substance/length. Bring back the email.

Camdenton, MO, Us

yes a lot of people do not like the "new" system, why change it if it wasn't broken.
