[LOCKED]Bring back the mail

Phoenix, AZ, Us

I agree. The new "message system" just plain SUCKS I didn't think this site could get any more primitive. The old email system was insane as it was but at least something. It was HORRIBLE in comparison to evey other email system on every other site of this type. Bet it was CHEAP though and, as we know SLS is nothing but CHEAP. Pocket the $$ and don't invest in the base product.

SLS needs to put some money into building a website with a modern API 2019 not 1998. Archaic is an understatement.

I would strenuously advise folks not to bombard customer service. I had safety issue as a unicorn (threatening messages from a wife I did not know existed). I deleted those messages. Blocked him and contacted customer service.. I didn't not know that if I deleted the messages CS could no longer see them; this is the first days of the new format. I did not approach them courteously enough it appears. My profile was blocked until I apologized. If customer service is reading this post please don't block me again. This is just an advisory to others re:deleting messages. Honestly, where else is there but SLS????

I agree with all of the 466 above! WTF! I want Mail and the Bird back! After all, what is the Bird going to do but collect Unemployment Benefits?!

@PassionfruitCouple, ditto! Good points, the suggestion about the "hover" feature on texts would be nice (we thought of it first btw, but you beat us to the forum) It is annoying having to click on a profile picture to get stats, true. Also would be nice to see if we had chatted with a couple before. I know that with the old mail system the envelopes would change color from gray to yellow if any correspondence was exchanged in the past. This may not seem like a big deal, but leading up to an event when many "networking" emails typically get sent and / or received, the mail system was far superior to the message system to scroll back and see what may have been discussed earlier, as not to duplicate the convo and seem uninterested. Our 2 cents.

Wish SLS would bring the e-mail back too. It was so much better for communication rather than the relatively terse IM system. It appears SLS has no intention of bringing it back despite all the complaints.

Ok... my opinion... this new system sucks and not in the good way. I know … I know... don't be hostile about it... but really...why did any one think this system was a good idea? Are they TRYING to drive folks away? Knee jerk reaction aside. This new system is horrible.

Passionfruitcouples post on this topic epitomizes all that we think about the change from mail to messaging. There are no advantages I can find, only the converse. There’s a saying “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it!” So what drove the change? Maybe I’m just a fossil and should stick to sharpening my quill, but I truly can’t figure out why this change happened! Can it be reversed? Could an opt out and in option be provided? Pretty please?

Yes bring back the mail or a nice modernized chat program. Someone on here made the comment about older people not being with new technology but this IM system is like something that we was using 15 years ago. We use our mobile devices for most online activity, and the IM program is not set up for it.

Things I hate about the new messaging:

*Single lady friends are being bombarded with messages by single men begging them to turn on the video chat and watch them masturbate.

*You can’t get basic stats by hovering over the profile pic, you have to click on their photo and visit their profile, which may be seen as expressing more interest than intended.

*You can’t see more than a line and a half of text - makes it challenging to send a thoughtful message.

*It breaks your messages into odd bits - disjointed and challenging to read.

*I don’t often have time to sit and have lengthy chats. I prefer ongoing conversations where I can give thoughtful, fun, sensual replies when I have time and/or am in the mood. Chat works for some things, mail for others, they’re complementary, not exchangeable.

*Language can be incredibly erotic and enticing and room for that is vital. Especially in this realm. Reducing eroticism and limiting linguistic foreplay to a message is counterproductive for those of us who are looking for more than a hook-up.

*I treasure some of the mail I’ve received. It’s not too difficult to go back and re-read mail (though a search would be awesome!) But very challenging to scroll through chat.

*The format is very difficult for giving event details to friends. Or those you hope will be friends ;)

I'm afraid that if this isn't corrected we will move to another site - but would very much prefer to stay here.
PLEASE - powers that be - give us back our mail!!

I do NOT use my phone to access this site. I travel and would use the "Hot Date" Calendar to find parties and events. Since Monday 7-15-19 I can no longer change my location on my profile or in the Hot Date section to find events when I travel! When I try to change my location I get this message " Please re-enter city using autocomplete" Thing is "Autocomplete" use to automatically drop down to click on and now it does NOT so I can NOT change my location to find events same message when trying to change my location on my profile! Wonder what we are going to loose next on this site. SMFH....... WAIT I know what they will take away next "Forums"! I can NOT submit a support ticket because it wont scroll down far enough for me to see and hit Send, I have tried many times, not sure if support ONLY works when using the phone apt, which I will never do!

Yeah, that kind of surprised us too, which is why we're currently not big fans of take overs ;-)

Not saying we won't ever try again, but it's a $400-$500 experiment.

I can understand the privacy and policy stuff with closed doors, we often see that as well.

It’s just hard to believe that someone that says they play a often as you do, that you have a hard time finding playmates at SLS events. I’m guessing that is why you stay private parties without fees; and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that either, so don’t take it as such please.

I guess it is YMMV all the way.

In addition to the lack of play opportunities at the large SLS party in our case, the LS sponsored events (or at least the one we attended) have a membership fee on top of everything else. This just made it feel like more of a money grab. Again, the money was less of an issue than was the lack of opportunity, Some may not have the local opportunity we have, making these large events that much more attractive to many.

nynj - Really not a disparagement as it was lack of opportunities. What we had heard about these parties and what we saw were 2 different things. At some, apparently people looking to play leave their hotel room doors open and are more openly looking for play partners. We saw virtually none of that in the 2 nights we were there.

We realize it can take time to get to know people and become more of a regular at some of these venues and every event is different. However, given the local opportunity in our immediate area with pretty much guaranteed play time versus traveling to $500/weekend SLS events with the hope of play time, it's just a no brainer for us as to the type of events we'd prefer to go to.

This new messaging system is a total fail. Email correspondence used to be great way to acquainted with someone before giving any outside contact info. If the goal of this format is get users to stay on-site, it's totally backfired. The 1st message I often get from a new contact now pretty much goes like this " Hi, wanna chat? Our kik is....."

888 - As with anything, YMMV. Our experience with a large SLS sponsored event was as I wrote. It was well attended (300+ RSVPs), but the vast majority of people either played behind closed doors or not at all, as far as we (or anyone else in our group of 8) could tell.

We did hear that this particular hotel take over was "off" compared to others, but the time and expense left me in no hurry to try again, nor could I vouch for it based on our own personal experience.

We attend a number of non-SLS sponsored LS parties in our area where people go to play. While we do enjoy the social aspects of the LS, ultimately we are here to find others to play with. SLS sponsored events have not been our best bang for the buck when it comes to play time.

Charles Town, WV, Us

Mayhem: I can assure you that we see just the opposite attending these SLS sponsored events, there are typically hundreds in our area that we know play several times monthly and some every weekend. Partying and having fun is part of the great time to be had when we go out, not just showing to play, so with all due respect, I will be the first to disagree with your analogy.

As for boycotting SLS events, there are swingers that are happy to play 4 times a year and others that will play 4 times in a weekend.

Aside from SLS sponsoted events tending to be more expensive, they appear mostly made up of the 4x/yr couples. I don't mind paying the money, but not if the vast majority of people are there to party versus play.

We don't have a lot of big SLS party experience, but dropping $500 for a hotel takeover weekend with limited to no play doesn't make me want to rush out and do another any time soon, boycott or not ;-)

I tried posting a trouble ticket several times about bringing back the mail and it locks up. We both have decided to stop reviewing pics and profiles for the site. I hope everyone that wants the mail back does the same. Let them pile up and make sls staff have to take time from making "improvements to the site". Wish it would have happened before they got rid of mail. Shame this site is going downhill so fast.

What are some other lifestyle sites to check out? We're kinda over this one.

IM on here is horrible. The whole site runs like we are stuck in 1995. Can't stand using this website. It is so frustrating. Now even more so without email. Our paid subscription expires in a few weeks. I will not renew it.
