I sent a strongly worded message about what I thought of their new system and here was the reply. It's a form reply that I think anyone complaining is going to get an identical copy of:

As new and exciting features like Video Chat, Instant Messaging with the ability to attach and send photos, and a whole new streamlined support system are now available, we are moving away from the old SLS email system. From your home page, you will see two new buttons where the mail button used to be, they are “Messages” and “Archived Mail”. Your old messages will still be available and kept in your profile as “Archived Mail”. You can reply to these messages in the old Mail Format but any new messages to another member will be through the new messaging system. To send a new message to another member, simply click on the “Message” button and you will be taken to the new message center. You can also send a message by selecting the “Message” button from the members profile. Thanks, Customer Service

If they remove this feature Most PCS on some networks are blocked from utilizing IM services limiting the use to only your phone.

Yep, I called it.... about 8 months ago. And virtually every time someone asked on the fora if mail was going away, management refused to answer.

The plan all along has been to stop the mail service. That’s why the new Message service is set up the way it is. It mimics the Mail. They used to be two separate but equally useful forms of communication, but when the changed Message it took on much of the Mail function.

The real problem with the owners/operators of SLS is that they implement these changes that almost unanimously are disliked by the customers. There’s no attempt to ask what we want, there’s no listening to the complaints when implemented.

If we weren’t in the northeast, we’d be off this site in a second for some of the other, better designed, better operational alternatives that cater to other parts of the country.

A business that doesn’t respond to the wants and needs of its customers is doomed to fail.

WTF - Mail is the primary first contact - Hell Most profiles say "DO NOT IM US" because of the Spam.

Hope this is part of the upgrade not yet implemented - but shaking my head in disgust if it goes away..

I suggest that everyone click on the help button and send an email to customer service to complain. (Which still works right now).

honestly, if you go back and look at all the changes that the site has undergone in the past say 3-5 years it has made it MORE difficult to make contact and meet people.... the entire purpose of this site is meeting others... and yet they have thrown roadblock after roadblock on this site....

We never bought a lifetime membership here, although in the past we should have considering we kept renewing. That said, anyone considering it now while this website is being torn apart by pre-teen quality web developers should think twice. How they’re forcing people to communicate now doesn’t make this place much different than Tinder. Except we can’t swipe left or right like that one.

In the you just have to chuckle category. So if mail is gone, what's the little bird going to be carrying? If you notice or remember the bird used to carry an envelope. The site will need a new icon for the delivery of an Instant Message.

100% agree. We are done on this site if they don’t return a functional message system. The IM function is pathetic and invites unwanted spam from blank profiled idiots.

If indeed they have ended the mail option, the site has little value and activity will dramatically drop. Hope it is just messed up today during the 14 hour “upgrade”

Agreed......we felt that the system in place worked great for the user (the paying customers) but apparently it did not work for the management. Bassackwards?

Same here. HATE IM. How in their right mind did they think this was progress? I assumed this was temporary today...

Who in the their right mind, would eliminate the main way for people to make contact on this site. Shame Shame!!!

We agree 100%. Keep the mail option! We also miss when SLS mail would send a notification to our external email letting us know we had an email here. Worked great if we didn't log in every day.

Most users on the site use the mail service. Yet the management made a unilateral decision to end mail services.
Forcing members to only use IM.
We HATE the IM option.
If the tech dept looked , they would see that more members use mail than IM.
This is the beginning of the end SLS.
