[LOCKED]Bring back the mail

We don't get that much traffic on this site, thank goodness other choices exist. Rather than sit on the sidelines we will add our voice to the paying participants that we prefer email to IM. As many other thoughtful people have said, there is not much better than receiving a well written email. The current IM technology erodes that ability.

LOL the day before the email fiasco, we signed up for another 6-months. Come Christmas 2019 the SLS money stocking hung by the chimney with care will probably be light by an order of two.

If you get get to your new messages -

Yesterday my messages didn't auto-sort so that the most recent were at the top. I had 3 messages and wasn't sure how to get to them. I scrolled d own and found one, then clicked on the Recent button at the top of the page and the other 2 unread ones rose to the top. Up until yesterday, all of the unread ones seemed to automatically be at the top and new ones I had for today were at the top. Sounds like they had a glitch.

We can't even figure out how to make the new messaging system work...we have been unable to answer messages...

If the email option does not come back we will not be renewing our membership. Why not have both email and message options. So ridiculous

I suspect it is the incredibly old technology the site runs on. It was old when we first joined 13 years ago and its ancient now. The mail probably became too much to manage and was causing site problems.

They pay for storage, bandwidth, and speed....IM versus mail greatly simplifies it.

Sls—why did you do away with simple email? I can not fathom a reason. Please explain..

New IM is a mess, bring back the mail or provide both. The decision to do away with mail, is an epic failure. Someone at the this site, listen to your membership and return the mail.

Bring back email. The IM service is awful.

Dumbest thing ever eliminating mail. Very few of the people I’ve established relationships with use IM and wouldn’t you know... since email got the axe no one has reached out! It’s like the site is paralyzed. Good job SLS, you’ve basically killed the functionality of the site!

Bring back the e-mail.

Why won't you listen to your customers?
If you won't or can't bring back the e-mail feature, then please give us the common courtesy of telling us why.

REALLY regretting my life membership now, I can't threaten to leave because it wouldn't matter to those who run the site anyway. Oh well just destroy what is good about SLS and force everyone to use your dysfunctional IM service that has not worked at all for nearly a year... maybe longer. I can not remember when the last time it sorta worked was.

Once again SLS makes changes that NO ONE wants or cares for.

Can I suggest to the management here that they post a survey to see what the entire user group wants for communication options? I think the messaging function has it's place but it's much easier to work with mail, save, delete, archive, etc. overall. The web designers seem to want to provide a one size fits all solution.
And like some have said here, if you're using your android phone the messaging function is a nightmare! Even on my laptop, the text entry window is hard to work with and lives at the very bottom of my screen till there are enough message entries to cause a scroll bar to appear for the whole page. On my Android phone it's hopeless. I end up leaving the messages unaddressed till I can get to a real screen.
I have been involved with application engineering for years working with end users in the real world on a variety of products. If the designers and software developers would get out of their offices and interact with the end users here they could provide us with a product that we all can enjoy.

Don't expect SLS to listen. I submitted a "Support" request for the email system and it was closed with no response. Then, I tried to change our profile to suggest people email us on other systems and our profile was suspended until I deleted the changes. The moral of the story is, "Don't step out of line or you will be punished."

And a LOT of those 300 are first time fora posters who have become agitated enough to de-lurk and make their views known. That says a lot right there.

And for you first-timers, if you decide to stick around SLS (not a sure thing, as of now), I'd encourage you to jump into the forums. We're a good bunch of asshats. Except for that BT guy. Watch out for him. :P

In case anyone is counting (Wayne? Admins?), I've seen at least 300 posts in just two threads in favor of bringing back email and even those who say are ok with IM prefer to have both options. Even if this is a small sample size, 300 to ZERO is a pretty good indicator that you f'd up.

Will SLS actually listen to their customers for a change?

Maybe it's a coincidence, but we're getting way less contact from people since Mail was disabled. Could be people have left, or they just don't want to use the Messages app.

IM isn’t what we paid a lifetime membership for. Please bring back email. Why not offer both?

This change from email to IM is a game changer for us, in a negative way. Had we NOT paid for a lifetime membership (deeply regret doing so now), we'd be gone for good.

Why not be able to use either one? Email always worked and could be answered any time even days later.Please bring it back. I know friends have been trying to contact but no luck through IM.

I agree, IM only sucks! Why not give people the option in the way they want to communicate??? Sometimes one way is better, sometimes the other is. I hope the developers listen to all the complaints and bring back the bird, which is now extinct!!!
