Instant message does not appear to be working for us. Removing the email is a terrible decision, and we certainly will be considering not renewing at the end of our current term.

There are over 2700 views for this thread, but only 144 posts. If you believe, like almost all of us who have replied, that an actual email format for contacting other members should be reintroduced PLEASE add a comment with your complaint about the recent changes to this and the other website forums discussing this issue.

ONLY if we get thousands of us to complain are we likely to get our email back!

NNV, like someone said being paid doesn't mean shi* and we agree with that. If you are recommending altplayground can you let us know how their hotdates and events work. We have tried SDC, lovevoodo, Kasadie (im sure they are misspelled) and a few others and their "hotdates/events" features sucked. We don't rely on meeting people on SLS we do however use the hotdate/events feature to plan out weekend. FYI It's Friday and SLS has left for their long weekend of partying and probably wont delete posts referring to other websites until Tuesday.

We can’t think of anything new to say about this IM system in replace of the previous email that hasn’t already been said. It’s horrible and sadly ownership does not care one bit. Wayne is a nice guy who has absolutely NO say in anything. We will be looking for a new site when our subscription comes due for a renewal. Such a shame

Nice to know that posts are being censored and deleted if you mention anything about FREE services that give you IM, Pic trading, groups etc.
Not sure why this is called a forum....Which we seem to recall is """'a place, meeting, or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged."""
No open exchange of ideas or views allowed here.

I would suggest we consider a site like altplayground. They have a functioning mail system. Plus, there are no free or trial members so the people you see are legit.

The decision we made to pay for a Lifetime membership was based on this site operating a certain way, with certain features.

This site no longer works that way. Features have not been added. Features have been removed. We used to have a Mail system. We no longer do. We used to have alerts when Messages arrived. That was removed. We used to have the ability to not receive Instant Messages, now that choice has been taken away. We used to have the ability to update our profiles and post Hot Dates and have those post instantly. Now we have to wait to have those changes to happen.

Not one feature has been added, or site improvement has been made. The web site is slow and kicks you off with an error message quite often.

We actually are getting less for our money now than when we joined.

Time to go backwards and not use your members as guinea pigs to test to test your new software or features.

We cancelled our sub today.

Wayne doesn't think there is a difference, well there is a difference between getting paid and not getting paid.

Their only response is a snarky one at best and ignoring the rest.

I'm sure the move to IM is a technical problem. The site architecture is old and probably not designed to handle the email load.

Like many others we find the new mail/message system to be horrible and unusable. Not having an input area that allows you to see more than two lines that you've written at a time (and perhaps is breaking longer paragraphs into multiple shorter messsages???) is totally inconsistent with what makes for an intelligent way to converse with others in other than real time.

VERY ironic that the input area for this forum note provides exactly the feature we still want. Someplace to write a long message, enough viewing space to review it easily before sending, and a virtually unlimited number of characters in a single message (like REAL email). If this type of input can be done for this forum, why was it taken away from our ability to communicate directly effectively with other members.

We too opened a Support ticket detailing our disgust for the new message system and got the reply others have that we just have to accept it. Who's running the store, those of us who pay to be members, or the SLS staff that makes their living from us? Sure sounds like the consensus is the new message system without real mail capabilities is a total dud.

Well,
Since this is a website thread, we know you're looking Wayne. If you're keeping tabs, there is exactly one contributor to this thread that thinks this was a good decision.

I'm not an IT guy but, as one poster pointed out, I can't imagine how diminishing the metrics of recent active users, which I know from my own website are easy to assess, is in any way a positive for your business. At this point I come here for the forums, to check out new profiles, and to chat with friends already here. At a meet and greet three days ago with a group we had not really interacted with before, we met two new couples who mostly communicated with other LS locals via Facebook. We're not Facebook types and told them so. They asked what lifestyle resources we used and I told them SLS and Kasidie were the only ones we had found to be locally useful (I realize I just violated your TOS, sorry). I can tell you with complete sincerity that had I met these same couples at tonight's party at the same venue, SLS would not be on that already short list. Their question related fundamentally to communication and networking. With this change I cannot currently recommend you to anyone.

We have a reputation to consider too you see.

Is that essentially an Fuck you???????

So, I wrote support politely asking that the e-mail system be reinstated and the toggle button to turn off IM also be reinstated. This was their response:

The site has a new messenger system now. Please use that. There is no need to turn it off.

If I am SLS and I'm selling ads to current and existing advertisers, I want to be able to show them that my users are spending significant amounts of time on the web site, which means that ads get more exposure. Yet all of these "site improvements" are driving people off the web site. The constant log in errors that kick you off makes people give up. The elimination of the Mail feature means any conversation we want to have with couples will have to be taken off line to a separate e-mail or chat program/app. That means you have to leave SLS. If this site were your on stop shop to explore, meet, and communicate, you'd spend more time on it. A swinger web site is only as good as the people using it. And yet the continued changes to the web site, almost every one of which has has been met with almost unanimous negativity by its users, seem to be sending people elsewhere.

SLS solicited help from its members to sort through photos. They would do well to put a group of users together as a committee to identify what works well, and what needs improving, and implement changes that are actually welcomed by its customers.

Yes, that appears to have been the plan all along. And management KNEW that it would cause this amount of anger, because when Wayne let slip that they were going to a mailbox-style IM system, some of us realized that it was possible that the mail was going away. When Wayne was asked about it MULTIPLE TIMES in the fora, he never answered (at least not that I could see). He reads most of what happens in the fora, so I'm pretty sure he didn't just miss the multiple references to the mail system being eliminated over months and months of fora discussion.

Ironically, you can still email people that you have emailed with recently. In most cases, THAT seems to be the better use for IM. We already know and like each other and so usually just a quick message to see what's going on and make plans works fine. It's kind of like it's backwards, but I understand why it is that way.

My original beef with the new IM was that there was no notification sound, but since it's now obvious the plan was to have it replace email, that may have been by design. It was known that certain people disliked IM so the inability to turn it off AND getting a notification sound every time you got one would have been super annoying for those folks.
