Messaging System Malfunction

"I have seen these longer messages just not send, and now you're starting all over again."

This is yet another of the many problems with the IM system that we never saw on the mail system.

Probably no surprise, but I have hit that word count limit ;-)

Word to the wise, before you hit the submit arrow for those long messages, cut/paste the message into your paste buffer or write them in Notepad or something and cut/paste from there. I have seen these longer messages just not send, and now you're starting all over again.

@RonKathy, enjoy, he sounds dreamy! Maybe one day we will swing with a single dude, for now we are sticking to couples so everyone is enjoying themselves equally, it's what works for us for now. Love the nurse outfit, Claire dressed as a sexy nurse for Halloween last year, I was the doctor...no one noticed me standing next to her.

@RonKathy, 2300 word count?!! You have conversations that run that long? So jealous...

Not sure if this is by design or not but if someone sends me a single message with 3 paragraphs, Message counts that as 3 messages. In other words Message has a red 3 but there is only really one message.

Nice! Witty is a good thing!

Is trust me a euphemism for without evidence?

A&J:

Trust me, I'm definitely not the only one having these problems. Even Wayne acknowledges the issues are often system wide at times.

In an enterprise environment the first question a support person usually asks is "Is anyone else having the same problem?" The answer to this question is important because it tells them where to look first. If you're the only one having the problem they know its not the back end and they begin to troubleshoot your set up. If others are having the same issue then they start to look at shared resources such as the network or servers. This isn't foolproof but is indicative of the likelihood of the fault domain.

In a widely distributed environment such as a public website any individual user reporting an issue is highly unlikely to know if their issue is unique or widespread. So hearing from others is actually relevant to the support staff.

DNLB simply put if some are having a problem or the problem is intermittent while others are not having a problem especially if it is occurring at the same time then it usually is not the fault of the website. To put it in perspective if you have a flat tire and I pass by you as I am driving and do not experience a flat it is not the fault of the road is it? Now it is much more complex than that as it could be a site problem if it seems to happen more when the site has a heavy traffic load. It could also be a heavy load on the overall servers the site is hosted on, an issue in routing between the member and the site's hosting servers, an issue with the member's internet provider, or as has been suggested (yet I do not think it is true) a problem with the member's computer (browser).
Personally I think there is an issue with the servers and load or heavy traffic between the connection to the servers and the actual internet. Many online games experience this as do other sites. Failure to load things at what seems like a random time is not limited to just this site.

That's nice.

My favorite term these days is "without evidence" when you want to disagree with someone and give the minimal amount of credibility.

"If my post bothers you feel free to skip it."

Words to live by.

I wonder why people who don't have a problem with the messaging system feel compelled to respond to posts regarding the messaging system? Why even visit the topic?

DNLB, I respectfully disagree with your interpretation of, as you put it(incorrectly I might add) ‘mine works’ as a ‘cheerfully honking your horn and waving’. I interpret it more of a ‘hey, we saw your problem and checked on it ourselves and it seems to be working now, you may want to try again.’

But then again, MOST people here are helpful like that.

I'll agree that the site isn't the most stable, most technologically advanced site in the world. But we don't seem to have nearly the volume of issues of which you and others complain.

If my post bothers you feel free to skip it.

Please understand, if someone has an issue with the message function it's usually sporadic, they may try again a few hours later and find that it works. The fact that yours is working is of no consequence to the issue they are having, unless perhaps you can read their messages and tell them what it says.

Saying "mine works" is sort of like cheerfully honking your horn and waving at someone who's changing a flat tire on the interstate.

Messages seems to be working here.

Tried to access messages this morning but it does not reconnect. Over to you Wayne.

Wow, I posted two days ago concerning a problem with credit card fraud after my concerns / observation was dismissed by Mgt. After about 35 views it was taken down. Why? Total BS ! So it one has a problem or concern regarding this site one is NOT allowed to express it ? LOL, how long will this post be up there I wonder ?

s there any plans to create something like Envelopes of "the old days" that we can reference to see our communication history ? Today we have to send a message to a profile just to get our past messages. Sometimes it takes two or three messages to open old messages. If our last messeges were of a "no interest" nature this can be embarrassing to both couples. We understand that this website is for communication purposes.

Wayne,
We've done the ticket thing, remember? The answer is the same "we can't re-create the problem, so it must be on your end".

The fact is that there wasn't an issue before the update. The mail system worked fine, so SLS "fixed" a problem they didn't have, and now numerous people, literally everyone we talk to about it, are having problems and are forced to use the message system that works sporadically, loses it's history, doesn't work the way most users want to communicate with, and the solution is to update my browser?

You aren't listening.

we’re consistently told that the “problem is on our end” and to “submit a ticket”.

BS meter is in the red...again.

DNLB,

The message system should work on any modern tablet or PC that can run the latest version of Firefox, Google Chrome, or Safari. If you are using one of those browsers and it is consistantly not working, you are having some problem on your end. Please submit a ticket regarding the issue with as much information as possible.

We have discovered that it works fine on a cell phone, even when it won't work at all on a tablet or PC. I've been told that if I install the app on my phone it's nearly flawless. I don't want the app on my phone and I'd rather use my PC and the browser that I normally use.

Every "improvement" gives us less functionality.

Here too. Try a different browser. That actually sometimes works, although why it would is a thought that just annoys me.

Working fine here too.
