Some couples like for the girls to talk ahead of meeting, and it can also be helpful with SMs to make sure they are clear on what the wife wants (and does not want). We do sometimes, but have no hard and fast rule about it.

Nope. I just bring a book to wherever we're meeting, so that it doesn't matter if no one shows up. Since it's just an introductory meeting, generally someplace very close to my house, the stakes and my investment are both low.
