PP: The latest SM pestering technique after we politely respond "thank you, but not looking for a single guy right now" is to come right back with "what if I bring a girl/couple?".

Of course they have either no pics or a single zoom shot of a somewhat blurry smile or hairy chest or something to go along with it. I'm tempted to say "sure, bring them on, as long as it's not just you".

Don't you just love the people that speed up when you're trying to pass them?

You will be pumping your own gas in New Jersey soon enough

Welcome to the fora Glw.

Are you initiating contact via IM with someone just because their IM box is green, assuming they are open to chat? If so, be aware that we can no longer turn the IM off so while everyone's IM box is green, many of us don't want to be contacted that way. We even have a note in our profile to that effect.

If you are reaching out to random strangers using the IM feature with a "Hi, how are you?", that would be the equivalent of texting a random phone number and expect them to engage in a conversation. I don't think it rude to ignore such an approach.

I would suggest you email someone you are interested in and if there is mutual interest, then you can IM each other.

People who go on instant message but do not reply with at least a no thank you. It just rude

With a name like mayhem I assume this doesn't bother you so much. But in NJ it is actually illegal to pump your own gas.

I've never liked to wait for something I can do myself. Pull into a crowded station with 1, maybe 2 attendants and either/both are lazy and it's just aggravating for me. As mentioned, it gets me up and out of my car too because if I'm in NJ, there's a good chance I've been on the road for 5 hours or so.

Kind of a fun fact thing but a survey was done for top 10 best and worst smells, and gas was on both of those lists.

That's odd that it costs less when someone is waiting on you.

I like any excuse to get out of the car, if I've been driving much. And people eat in their car, why? Nice indoor or outdoor deli area, washrooms nearby, and I see them eating some sloppy sandwich in their car.

Been driving in NJ for nearly 40 years and can say that with all the jughandles we may have we still have our share of intersections allowing for left turns and more than enough drivers sitting back waiting for clear sailing before moving out into those intersections. Also while there may have been a time when the only rule of the traffic circle in NJ was whoever had the biggest balls had right of way, we now have yield signs to give the drivers already on the circle the right of way. As for pumping my own gas if I ever have the urge to get out of my car into the weather and sniff gas fumes I'll drive over the state lines and pay the higher price for the privilege.

"At some intersections, if a car turning left in front of you will not enter the intersection when the light is green, you could hypothetically be sitting there all day. "

I've seen times where a driver refuses to move into the intersection and thus sits there for several cycles, causing tremendous backups of traffic.

In NJ it's also illegal to pump your own gas. I guess after smokers blew up a couple gas stations they felt they needed a law to protect people from themselves ;-)

Oh, and as I recall, in NJ it's the people ENTERING a traffic circle that have the right of way, which is opposite I've seen it in most other places. Seems like a recipe for gridlock.

In New Jersey we can't handle the left (turn). That's why we have "jug handles"... DNLB, no pun intended.

Yup, California handbook says: "To make a left turn, drive close to the center divider line or into the left turn lane. Begin signaling
about 100 feet before the turn. Look over your left shoulder and reduce your speed. Stop behind the limit line..... "

"The Colorado driver handbook says, “If you are turning left, you should wait at the stop line or crosswalk until there is a gap in traffic large enough to allow you to pull into the intersection and complete your turn."

I think it's illegal in California too, you can get a ticket for blocking the intersection if you can't traverse the intersection before it turns red.

At some intersections, if a car turning left in front of you will not enter the intersection when the light is green, you could hypothetically be sitting there all day.

Yesterday I was behind such a driver in some aircraft carrier sized pickup truck. I could not see anything beyond this truck. And he just sat through an entire green light, and nobody else on our side could proceed, of course.
He did make up for it (assume it was he) by illegally turning left at the next green; just bolted out in front of oncoming.

I can't imagine a state or city making it illegal to enter on green. Unless oncoming is running the red light, you should always have time to get through. And traffic actually moves!

MoT1974,
What you are advocating, moving into the intersection before it’s safe to turn left, is actually illegal in many places. Years ago, I went to traffic court to contest a ticket. In the case that was heard ahead of mine, the gentleman had received a moving violation for being in the intersection when the light turned red. He reasoned that the light was green when he first entered the intersection. The judge informed him that entering the intersection before it’s safe to continue moving through, was itself grounds for a violation, and by all rights he should have been cited for two tickets: entering an intersection illegally, and running a red light.

Sounds like Dunkin Donuts to me... My opinion, their coffee is disgusting.

Windermere, FL, Us

Yeah I'm wondering how it can be possible to make coffee that's so bad that it makes your neighbors sick.

Must be garbage coffee.

If they did that, then you wouldn’t have been able to join their conversation.
