We are not on the app. DON'T want to get on the app. We resent being Forced to install the app. Everything on SLS seems to be questionable these days.
There once was a time when members security mattered. Opinions mattered.
Website: Private image access request
Breakfast in the SLS IT Department must be exciting. They probably can't make cold Cheerios without the bowl bursting into flames.
That's true! Probably not how SLS envisioned it functioning, but does anything ever work they way they think it will? ;-)
Well we were originally not for this new feature. But now we all for it and here is why. When some clicks the button to send just that automated message with no hello, how are you two, nice profile, sounds like we have similar interests, etc...it’s a fast way to realize we’re probably not a match. No etiquette, didn’t take the time to simply write a short hello, just clicking buttons, tell us all we need to know about them.
Viewed on a desktop, I am seeing the:
??? Sent you a private image access request
View their profile to accept!
(Automated Message)
But I also have seen multiples of this, such as 2 followed by an actual text message:
??? Sent you a private image access request
View their profile to accept!
(Automated Message)
??? Sent you a private image access request
View their profile to accept!
(Automated Message)
Hey good morning nice to meet you both
Apparently the app can sent the private image request multiple times. Was this because the user tapped the control more than once (accidentally or on purpose)? Or they forgot they already sent a request, and are now sending another?
When inviting people to join a group, the invite button only works once, and then never again to that particular user profile. It has the advantage of not allowing spammers to continuously sent group invites to the same people over and over. I can see the ease of automating the first request (even if it is tacky to make such a request without actually chatting first to gain some trust). But once that first request is sent, you should not be able to keep badgering a recipient with multiple requests. At that point you should a least have to revert back to actually writing out the additional requests manually.
Geez Bimmer!,that’s ridiculous. Why in the hell would SLS ever do something that makes sense?!
~rabbit~
OK, just a bit of common sense here. If this is an App Only feature, why not make that information part of the automated message?
"Sent you a private image access request. View their profile on the Mobile App to accept!
(Automated Message)"
"Also, adding someone as a friend does not give them access to any of your private/personal pictures."
It does if you have that option selected. We do, and it's always worked for us. Do I need to explain how to do that?
"Viewing their profile NEVER automatically gives you access."
Thank you, Wayne. That is what I wanted clarification on.

If you are on the app, that message is different. When you view the message, you have the option to "Accept" it and give them access (you can view their profile first or not view their profile). Viewing their profile does not automatically give you access. If you are using the main website, the message is different. What it means on the browser based website is to view their profile and give them access the normal way that you would. Viewing their profile NEVER automatically gives you access.

So if you are using the app, clicking their profile if they send the automated message automatically gives the other user access to your default private gallery?

It only works when both members are using the app. If you are not using the app, you will see their request in your messages and would have to decide to give them access via the normal way you do so on the website. If you are on the app, you can view their profile and then see a prompt to give access or not.

Also, adding someone as a friend does not give them access to any of your private/personal pictures.

We do not use the app. We got a request from someone who apparently does. We could see it. It said:
(Redacted)
"??? Sent you a private image access request
View their profile to accept!
(Automated Message)"
So here's what I find weird about that: Click on the message, read it and then you have to decide to give them access to your private galleries BEFORE you've checked out their profile to see if you're a match? Why do I say that? That's how it functions based on the wording...If you click on their profile to view it you automatically accept their private image access request.
i can't imagine that's how it's supposed to work but hey, if it does: The app that comes with phishing built in! Click on the message and give personal information automatically. Another successful rollout of a technological advance from SLS! Wooo-hooo!
I checked to see if it works that way because I did look at their profile. I checked in the Tools section to make sure I hadn't given them access, and they're not showing on my access list for our private galleries. It's also not added them as a friend, which can potentially give access to private galleries, but given the track record of the "developer" (air quotes intentional) I'm a bit fearful that they do have access to our private pics but we can't see it or retract the access because the "developer's" track record to date sucks big gangrenous donkey dicks.
So I blocked them because an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. They were interesting, but not worth taking a risk. Problem solved. Thanks SLS! You guys rock.
So, if we don’t use the app (and we don’t) and someone who is using the app sends us a request, will we (as non app users) see that request? If we can’t see that request, they are going to think we are not interested and ignoring them.

Sorry, that was not worded very well. I did not have the app update yet yesterday. I have now used it:

On the app, you can now share your private pictures with another member. That is your default private gallery.

On the app, when viewing another profile, you can also request access to their private pictures and they will receive a notification of your request.

Pfft, we just got a request from a couple that doesn't have a private gallery. They're not trying to share their pictures, they're asking for access to ours.
Apparently because we don't get enough inarticulate attempts to see our private galleries already, SLS thinks it's a great idea to AUTOMATE the process. Let's make something you don't want even FASTER, cuz speed makes it better, right?!?!?!?!
If you want to be like Kas idie, could you at least try to include the useful features of that site?
I believe he messed up just a tad in the explanation and didn’t mean exactly what you’re interpreting, no more than me believing you’re addressing Shirley.

I interpret the statement to mean that if I open MY pictures, I will get a notification if the other party, in turn, opens THEIR pictures for me. That can’t be right.
Shirley, Wayne meant to convey something. Else, why would I write anything, So tortured, convoluted, or not.
Ok, I’m Dunn
"What in the hell is the reason to create a new feature and NOT inform the membership. This site is just unbelievable."
It's a new feature of the app, yet nothing for you to worry about; remember, you're not installing it.

I got one of the messages saying "<Username> Sent you a private image access request. View their profile to accept! (Automated Message)".
What make it weird was:
1) getting an unknown type of message I have never seen before,
2) not knowing how such a message is getting generated (I don't use the app, just a normal web browser),
3) the message was from a new profile just created today, and instead their 3 public pictures are only empty grey boxes in place of pictures, implying that profile is somehow messed up.
4) their private gallery also existed, but is locked, so if they do have private photos they are not already visible.
5) It is not clear if simply viewing their profile will then automatically accept their request to open my gallery, or if I am really being asked open their profile, and then click the "Private" control button that then givens them the picture access they are requesting.
Now that I know this is a new "real" feature, I'm wondering how long until lots of easy-to-make requests start rolling in asking me to share my photos to people who are not first sharing theirs. If you are adding a button to make things easier, why not pay for that convenience my having the button also open up their gallery automatically for me at the same time the photo request is getting sent out, so I can see their photos upon my initial viewing of their profile? (Or is that somehow asking to much personal info of the person who is already reaching out to me to see some of my personal?)
How about changing the button to read something like, "Hello. I think your profile s interesting, and I would like you to view my profile in return. Maybe we can then chat some more?"
Overall, this picture request message feature feels rather Meh, and probably just gives some people an easy way to turn into picture-request spammers. I suspect the profile blocking button will be getting a lot more action that the gallery sharing button.
I’m not sure why people are complaining about this. This is a feature that has been requested many times. SLS should be applauded for finally listening to their users, and delivering a useful feature.
Ok. I understand that isn’t the most pressing need, nor the most requested feature. Maybe they are starting at the bottom and they will work their way up on their very long list of improvements.
Now, if they could only make this very small improvement available on the regular web site instead of only on the app.
Bazinga!... never gonna happen
Instead of adding new that few will like, just wish they would bring back what everyone loved, like email vs . . . .
It's like getting surprise anal... from a koala.
What in the hell is the reason to create a new feature and NOT inform the membership. This site is just unbelievable.
Anyone have any idea this newer feature? I get a message and it says... sent u a private image access request. View their profile to access.
Maybe it a user error but I can’t figure out what it is or how to access.
