Lone wolf- you are in RI, I'm in CT but I have the same problem with inactive groups here.
About 40 of them and none of them have posted anything in 3 years.

Hi Ymichael14......When you join a group you go on that groups member list.....other members can see your profile and you theirs as well as anyone visiting the site who views the list.....I've noticed that in numerous member profiles they haven't been online in what amounts to several years in some cases.....

Lonewolf- I'm curious how that works.
Do people check the groups for profiles?
As I said, I joined to find house parties.

Phoebert- thanks.
I was already aware of that section. I thought he was referring to a section I had not seen.

I've joined a number of SLS groups mostly to get my profile seen and hopefully by some local life-stylers......

He means to the far right on a particular group's page, not the Groups page with the US map

Gbinnj- Far right of the groups page? I only see newest, popular and closest groups. I do not see anything about parties

I’ve found the discussions seem to be dead - rarely new posts. But some will send alerts when new party’s are setup and disappear from page after they are past. Go to group page and look at the far right side of page - it will show any upcoming events scheduled regardless of discussion posts

Thanks for the responses.
I joined the groups looking for house parties.
Is there any other way to find house parties? Or at least , people who run house parties? I don't mind getting to know them and convincing them I'm not a jerk before I can get invited.

We run a group here that focuses on meet and greets for couples in the Northern NJ area.

When we started the group it took off like gangbusters. Our very first event had 12 couples show up on a random Wednesday night. After that the events just got larger. At our peak we had 70-80 couples showing up for events that we held about every 6 weeks.

Then COVID hit. It's been hard to get anyone to show since then. We've tried several different tactics and have never seen the crowds come back.

It's not hard to imagine that many groups get created and just die on the vine. I have one a group on another site, but it's more work than it's worth. If someone is actively setting up open invitation parties/events, then a group may have some value.

One other way that it "may" have value is if it limits the membership to a certain location. This means it's a group of local people interested in whatever the purpose of the group is and that you have an actual chance of meeting other group members in person. Some groups start with this premise and then allow people hundreds or even thousands of miles away to join that have no intention of visiting that group's location.

Unfortunately, some people's take on groups is to treat them like FaceBook followers, meaning more is better. It seems like a contest for some where the one that joins the most groups wins.

You can join any group, regardless of location. The group owners/admins may not allow certain members as well.

Most groups do not have a lot of traffic.

I joined just about every group in my state looking to attend house parties. After at least one year, none of them have held a house party. All of the events show zero. They all appear to be inactive.
Unless I'm doing something wrong.
Can I join groups outside of my state? Will I be allowed to attend parties or do they all only want local people?
