So Wayne that being said, finances should not be an issue for making site improvements
upgrades desperately needed
<p>The site literally lists the new today and new this week profiles. If you have the time, you can sit there and view all 8000+ of them to see that it is the truth. <br />
</p>
<p>Robann11 is correct. It is a rolling count based on the last 24 hours for "Today" and last 168 hours for "This Week". You can prove that for yourself by looking at the New Today and seeing that some profiles have a Member Since date that is the 9th.</p>
I have laughed at that total from the time I first watched it.
Let us say 420,000 new members a year.
It has been a while since I checked membership fees , but I guess that either monthly or life memberships times that number is real money.
Maybe they include free members? Each time they log in?
Ok not lying just misleading people to join. Six of one, half dozen of another
Onehorneywife.
I don't think they are lying as much as they are inflating/misreporting the totals.
They turned on the counter at 0 at some point and over a weeks time and they accumulate new members.
To be 100% accurate, they would have to have a set Start and Stop time for each week and at that time, the counter should go to 0 and reset. For example, start at 12:00:00am on a Monday, accumulate through the week, reset at 11:59:59 the following Sunday.
I don't think this is what they do.
What it looks like they did was start the calendar one day in the past, accumulated through the first week and at the end of 7 days, dropped off the day 1 total from the prior week and add in the new days totals to start ther new week.
So their new members in a give 7 day period will always be inflated since the count never resets to 0.
I get it from a marketing perspective. If you reset each week, you would have very low numbers at the beginning of the week which could deter new users but it is misleading,
Hey that is what they are showing. I didn't make up those numbers. So basically they are lying!
Onehorneywife, you are making a HUGE assumptions that the counter is actually working and accurate.
So I just looked, 6:00am est on Sunday 3/10 and the number is 8842.
Your post was an hour earlier at 8752.
This implies 90 new members joined between 5:00am and 6:00am on a sunday morning east coast time and 2:00am to 3:00am west coast time are awake signing up for SLS. Most swingers in the USA would be asleep at this time.
So the next argument would be, "well they are not in North America". How many international accounts have you come across?
Also, when does a "Week" begin and end? I am pretty sure that number will not reset anytime this week back to "0" when they start a new week.
They are probably using a rolling calculator where the drop off the total new members from 7 days ago and add in the new members today.
Even so, at the rate of 90 members an hour they would be signing up 788000+ new members per year, which I find unbelievable as well.
Wow just in the time it took for me to write the message it jumped to 8800 new members.
Well, I could go along with the we need to stay in business idea to a point but according to their own posting 8758 new people joined SLS just this past week. That plus the $$$ from the bliss ads I am sure there is enough $$ to add occasional improvements.
Personally, and I could be totally wrong here, but I suspect the contract their programmers. I do development myself and once the money runs out, we stop. With the amount of feature requests, they have to prioritize between must have to stay in business and it would be nice if we had the money. My guess is they are in the we need this to stay in business mode most of the time
Crickets from Wayne regarding a recent post I made about something that was to be corrected.
What is really needed is A TUTORIAL aka SLS for dummies! There is very little documentation.
Just recalled a matter that was brought to the attention of you folks at SLS about how when getting a message from a gumby couple when you open it up it is actually a male profile. That was to be addressed and corrected. Still hasn't!
<p>Robann11,</p>
<p>It is normal for pictures to briefly disappear after we approve them. They go into a queue for their final processing, so they no longer show as pending, but they do not appear on you profile yet. They should show up within an hour or less.</p>
<p>We are aware of the issue with some PNG images. For now, if that happens you can convert the picture to some other format, such as JPG.</p>
Also Wayne, you guys didn't delete any of the photos so apparently none of them violated your policies. I did upload a few to the wrong area and was immediately notified by support, but those were not the ones i was referring to.
Wayne, the photo's i uploaded didn't violate anything. I uploaded them, they show up awaiting approval, I refresh the site, they disappear, so I uploaded them again, refresh the site, they disappear, so on and so forth until they ended up on my profile the next day 4 separate times. Thats a bug in my opinion. Another photo issues is .png's are uploaded and look like photo negatives, but no where on the site does it say not to use a .png.
As far as the membership goes, we signed up, were offered a lifetime membership for $99 after creating a free profile. We didn't access that profile for a while and logged on and the deal was there. It is not advertised on their site and I believe it was for a limited time.
Maybe I'm thinking of a different site. I have a lifetime membership at BSP too.
I think it was $99 for a lifetime when we had our first profile in October 2003
“ Our one year membership is $100 and Unlimited is $200”
I think we paid $75 for the lifetime option 20 years ago. Inflation.
Lol was isn't that just amazing
Within the last couple of months I had a post removed from this site because I mentioned what the cost of an SLS membership for 1 month was.
The message I received from SLS said the post was deleted because I mentioned $$, that I couldn't mention costs(prices?) in a public post. Apparently that means you can't sate in a public SLS post to current SLS members what a current SLS membership costs, but you can tell current members what the current cost at a competitive site is.
Got it.
<p>"<span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family:tahoma,verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size:14px">I just looked. Monthly is $19.95, there is currently a sale for annual for $29.95, and the lifetime option is $99.95."</span></p>
<p><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family:tahoma,verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size:14px">I see the $19.95 monthly, but the annual is $129.95 and they do not have a lifetime option at all. Must be giving you some special deal.</span></p>
I just looked. Monthly is $19.95, there is currently a sale for annual for $29.95, and the lifetime option is $99.95.
<p>"<span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family:tahoma,verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size:14px">Oh wait, their membership for one year is the same price as SLS and their lifetime is $100 less. I just noticed this today."</span></p>
<p><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family:tahoma,verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size:14px">That doesn't work out. Our one year membership is $100 and Unlimited is $200. If their one year is the same as ours and their lifetime is $100 less than ours, then their lifetime and one year are the same price. And as I already stated, that other site does not offer a lifetime membership.</span></p>
<p>"<span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family:open sans,sans-serif; font-size:14px">I have uploaded the same photos 4 times already, the don't show up as awaiting approval. They just dissappear."</span></p>
<p><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family:open sans,sans-serif; font-size:14px">Then your pictures most likely violate our rules and we are deleting them.</span></p>
Oh wait, their membership for one year is the same price as SLS and their lifetime is $100 less. I just noticed this today.
On another note, your photo uploaded and manage galleries sucks big time. I have uploaded the same photos 4 times already, the don't show up as awaiting approval. They just dissappear.
Also, I have photos in the general gallery uploads that are not selectable when trying to add to mail.
The mail uploaded makes PNG files look like color negatives.
This is the buggy nature of SLS.
