[LOCKED]Message Conversations Disappear

Jeered, I thought for a moment I was popular: 386 new messages, but alas, it’s just SLS’s fragile system

No, not all messages were restored. I have 1 string that should date back to sept 2019, but only to july 2020.

My guess is, the number correlates to the amount of messges "archived" for sls.
*to my understanding, some websites are obligated to keep certain things for x amount of time. It's easier on their system to archive it for themselves.

What a mess......

The good part is that it looks like messages were restored. Well over 100 unread messages showed which we whittled down to a manageable number by clicking the conversations that had unread message numbers in circles. They are all gone, yet were still showing an unread message number in a red circle.

There are now multiple conversation treads from the same couple. Some conversation threads only show the last couple of messages exchanged, others have the entire conversations going back to the beginning.

The Mail feature was disabled in favor of the Messaging system. This move was presented as an upgrade to make communicating through the web site better for us.

We too have a stack of "new" messages, at least the icon says we do. When we click on the "New" tab, there are none.

Damn that's a crack team of programmers...or is it a team of crackheads doing the programming? Definitely one or the other, that's for sure.

I currently have the opposite of the title going on. My red message counter says I have 896 new messages, but I don't have any new ones. Weird.

If I cant access or see them then why Archive them????

Sent in a ticket, but also went in and cleated out my useless messages. Hopefully you guys can figure out how to get the system to differenciate active messages that started a year ago to inactive messages.

<p>For anyone that has missing messages that are newer than one year, please submit a ticket or send me a private message with the profile name of the other person, if you know it. As I stated, some newer threads were inadvertently archived and those are being restored.</p>

We completely lost a series of messages with a "Friend" on here that have occurred about 1-2 twice a week over the last 6 months. Our co-administrator. No other Message chains were touched. We have speculated on two possible causes. Either we sent so many messages between us, that when an SLS limit is reached, it resets to zero. The other possibility is they converted from monthly paid to lifetime members and some point and at that point we both lost all old messages because theirs was a new account, even though they had been members for years. And when we are talking here we are talking the new and not improved MESSAGES. Not the old mail or mail from group administrators.

Wayne, why does SLS do shit without notifying the customers first like most decent sites? What is with the gestapo approach to administrating?

Just noticed another entire conversation deleted. It was with a couple from NY that we originally started exchanging messages with on a trip to NYC 2 years ago. They sent us a message LAST WEEK. That entire thread is gone as well.

That’s not the case at all. The last messages exchanged with this couple was in July. Now the entire thread is gone.

The conversation had been going on for some time, but you’ve deleted the entire thing.

Why does it always seem like SLS actions are done by people who have no idea how people use it?

This isn't what's happening. I have 3 different sls people I'd been going back and forth with since 2019... gone. All of it. Sucks.

<p>It would only be if you went over a year without any messages being sent between the two parties. It doesn't seem like a very common senerio that two people would pick up a conversation after a whole year of no contact.</p>

And one other thing: Why in the world can't SLS send a message out to all users a week before they systematically delete messages and give people a chance to print or archive them on their own? Why do we always have to find out there's a change after stuff gets lost/deleted/removed without warning?

Other web sites do it. Other swinger web sites do it.

IIRC, the he old mail system arrived messages and you can access them. Based on what Wayne says here and the reply I received from Support, messages over a year old archived in a way where we will not have access to them. This sucks.

Sometimes, it can take a year or more to schedule something, especially with the COVID situation preventing many people from meeting. So now, messages exchanged with others in July 2020 will be removed in July 2021?

Yeah, this makes perfect sense for a web site whose sole purpose is to facilitate people meeting each other.

Great point Wild. Let's see what SLS says to that. My post in this thread was removed silently by SLS staff. I guess they did not like what I had to say about the messaging system.

Will they ever be available? Kinda sucks that just poof an ongo in ng conversation just gets wiped out and archived.
