On January 6th there will be a joint session of Congress to count and affirm the Electoral College votes.

A states votes can be contested. In order
To do this. There has to be one Representative and one Senator to agree to contest a certain states vote. They do not have to be from the state they are contesting.

Once a states votes are contested. The Representatives and the Senators return to their respective chambers to debate. The debate can last no longer than two hours.

The reconvene in a joint session to vote if the Electoral College votes should be accepted or not. Both branches of Congress must agree to not accept Electoral College votes.

This has only happened three or four times iirc. The last time in 2000 Bush the 2nd. And no Electoral College votes were rejected.

So let’s look at the make up of each branch of Congress.

The Senate is controlled by the GOP. Let’s say they vote strictly on party line, (which I highly doubt, there will be plenty of Republican Senators who will reject this) the Senate will vote to not accept the EC vote.

The House is controlled by the Democrats. Again voting on party lines. There will be no Democrats voting to not accept the EC vote.

Tb, I do agree that there is a echo system around military spending so you just can't just cut it off entirely abruptly. Nobody will fix $3.1 trillion deficit in one year. Even 10 years is an ambitious goal. Chipping away at expenses, starting with big ticket items, and investing in venues that have a return (shovel vs. gun), is the only way to reduce it.

Not only that, but welfare, food stamps, and all of those ancillary services go away. Walmart loses tens of billions, as do all of the little mom and pop stores on every corner in every little podunk town across the South.

The consequences of taking that much money out of the economy and the cascading effects would catastrophic.

Tb, yes you can cut enough. Americans are conditioned to accept defense spending as a matter of life. They spend their lives bring told it is necessary for "freedom". However, that is not the case at all.

The model of keeping dictators like the Saudis in power for cheap oil worked only for a short time. Without a major overhaul of defense spending, the deficit will keep growing and we will produce less and less. That is the real elephant in the room, not the maneusha like the illegal immigrants or social services like some people keep whining about.

It's what you invest in. A shovel can be used to build buildings. An AR15 can't help you make anything.

A larger scale example: If you have a billion? you can buy a few tanks that get parked somewhere for years and may get scraped before seeing any real use, or you can build a tupperware factory and start selling tupperware.

Which option you think will generate more prosperity? The factory of course. The gains from the tupperware factory will be further used to build more stuff, and sell more stuff. The tupperware enhances our lives, the tanks don't.

The effect is cumulative. When you generate products, your deficit shrinks and eventual it becomes a surplus. Everyone is happy and there is money everywhere and you make more products...
