Amazon is absolutely correct. There will always be a bottom 10%. Over the course of my career I've jetted into cities in the dead of the night for the morning meeting with the 10% more times than I can recall. Two things are important to remember. 1) The bottom 10% always knew where they were, all were under documented performance improvement plans and failing. 2) Once you lopped off the bottom 10%, there was always a conversation with 11-15% letting them know they were now the new bottom 10%. Honest communication always works.

LOL

Something like your false narrative about BLM?

I am not sure how to take your response to Orfalea. I am not sure you even know who he is. He is the founder of Kinko's. He said that there will always be a bottom 10%. Firing to replace people doesn't mean that they will not be in the 10%. That there is cost to fire, hire and train. You could take that energy and cost and work on making them better. They may still be in the bottom 10%, but you can increase their production.

Honestly, I do not know what the Trump or conservative take on crossdressers, transgender, gay, bisexual are. If they follow the bible thumpers, I think they are ok with gay and bisexual now. Well, not fully, but at least some are. I don't think they are ok with trans yet. I just don't know, those are assumptions.

Personally, I don't give a fuck. I don't care if a guy wants to be a woman or a guy wants to suck a cock. I treat it the same way as religion. Just because you found YOUR happiness, doesn't mean it is my happiness. There is no need to preach to me that your way is the best and only way.

Ever seen anybody at Trump's Rally's that look like him?

But, Mark defends Trump's bullshit.

@AZ

I thought about letting this slide, but I ain't.

Let's do math. Let's use a hypothetical scenario.

I earn $1000 a month, net. I have two credit cards that each have $1000 line of credit on it.

I paid the rent, it was $800
I bought groceries, it was $150
I paid the utilities, they were $50.

That is $1000 right there.

I whipped out my CC and got a haircut and spent $25. I needed some clothes and whipped out the CC and spent $100.

For the month I spent $1,125. I earned $1,000. That is, by definition, spending more than I earn.

Want to do this accounting wise as well? It is done all the time. Hell, let's have some fun.

Tesla had no earnings. It had revenue. It opened a massive $5bn plant in Nevada. When they started, their total revenue was $3bn. How did they spend more than they earned? They took on debt. They hit the corporate CC :)

I have always stated that not everyone can be a rocket scientist and that some have the mental aptitude to be nothing more than a ditch digger. What you are missing though in my beliefs is that I feel and know from experience that opportunity is NOT equal in this country. At the highest level, aka, words, it is. Everyone has the opportunity to do whatever they desire. Now, once you get down from 40,000 feet and into the real world, you realize it is not the same. It, of course, is impacted by family but it is also extremely impacted by society. It could be something as simple as a school not offering a class, to a school that has 15 kids per class versus a school that has 40 kids per class.

Back on topic.

Jan, Feb, it was clear the plan was to pretend the 'rona wasn't going to become a pandemic. Trump had "stopped it in its tracks" by implimenting a partial travel ban from China.

Mid Feb, we start to get hints it might be real. Stocks dropped 10% in 3 weeks.

Then starting March 10th when NBA shut down, reality hit. All pro-sports stopped. Large gatherings were cancelled, and over a weekend, the world changed. The next week, government ordered lock downs started. Stocks were down another 20% in a week.

Congress, under the gun, threw everything at the economy. Cash handouts, money to businesses that didn't lay off, and extra unemployment needed to make up for very low state UI benefits. $3T to get us 3 months.

BUT, the Republican base started to freak out. They had spent 80 years convincing everyone that government is the problem, not the solution!

We were supposed to use the shut-down time to prepare... instead we used it to spread false narrative.

The Republican Party adopted a policy that it was all a lie, and was going to magically disappear. The radical Libertarians that control the purse strings of the RNC activated their puppets in the racist militias to demand states lift lock-down orders, they spewed the propaganda that it was all a scam to get Trump out of office.

McConnell said no more stimulus talks until July.... Let's see if it magically disappears. Then when July arrived and the virus was surging, he couldn't come up with a workable proposal that even his party could support, let alone get Democratic controlled house to go along with.

The Republican party is built on false narrative, and they keep trying to spin false narratives about the pandemic, but the pandemic just won't fucking cooperate with their false narratives.

If we all just believed hard enough, maybe the Republican platform wouldn't be a pile of stinking bullshit, an maybe Tinkerbell would come back to life.... and if you don't believe, that it is you that are the enemy.

"you speak so high and mighty and as a fkn know it all...."

" Libs need to just look in the mirror and blame themselves.."

CONservatism is founded upon a very popular, false-narrative. To make progress, we must challenge that false-narrative, which pisses off the people that really like it. That results in posts like the above.

Of course, a lot of liberal causes are also founded on false narrative (cough-Black Lives Matter-cough). Challenge those false narratives, and the above gets shrunken down into "racist".

I really hare false narratives, regardless of which side of the political divide is spewing them. In fact, it is the false-narratives that create the political divide in the first place. Attacking the false-narratives on both sides, simply makes people from both sides of the divide hate me. That's their problem for loving false narratives.

Oh. but what a great way to make people work really hard to not be in the bottom 10%. Rugged individualism = get yours no matter who you fuck over to get it. AKA: dog eat dog.

I said: it is mathematically impossible for everyone to be spending less than they earn, for the same reason it is impossible for every country to have a trade surplus.

Erotic said: >@AZ

Minor correction.

People do spend more than they earn. They do it all the time. They take on debt.

How is that in any way a correction to what I said?

Some nations have trade deficits. They do so by going into debt. That does not mean that it is possible for every nation to all have a trade surplus at the same time.

Some households spend more than they earn by going into debt, which creates money, which the households spending less than they ear accumulate. That does not mean that every household can be spending less than they earn, accumulating savings.

There might be hope for you yet. Lol

Vote for whomever you want Tallmark. I really don't care. You are not changing me by threatening to vote for someone. I don't care.

I learned something from a former neighbor, Paul Orfalea. He chuckled when companies each year would fire the bottom 10% of their salesforce. He said no matter what you do, there will always be a bottom 10%. By firing them that problem does not go away.

I am also reminded of something that was said to me when I was younger by a very wise man. He said, "David if everyone were smart you would just be average." He told me that because I was having problems understanding why people could not understand things. Why, what I found extremely easy, they could not comprehend.

You can't have everyone be the same. That goes with intelligence, height, weight, sexual preference, athletic ability, etc.

So if you want to vote for Trump because you think he is the best, go ahead, vote your convictions.

Whats a matter tallmark? Are you offended by knowledge? Unlike what you have uttered, I speak about what I know. I don't pull shit out of thin air and call it factual.

Let's see - you stated, "Funny how the most Liberal cities are the most unbalanced wealth wise....Yet they blame trump and republicans....."

What does that mean? Is it that you are to 'balance' wealth? Are we on a see-saw now?

Or are you talking about wealth disparity?

Seattle - who are the 'rich' there? Technically Gates is still a WA resident. Bezos, I am not sure what he classifies as his domicile. He has residences all over the US. I think though, he may be in Bel Air now as his main. He only spent over 150mm on it. Are you talking about computer people that are earning 100s of thousands a year?

What is rich? Is it rich when you earn 10x the min wage? Is it rich when you earn 30x the min wage? What happens when you have a range of earning compared that has nearly the same percentage in each bracket. So let's see . . . what does payscale show.

The average salary in Tempe is 64k.
The average salary in Portland is 68k.
The average salary in Seattle is 79k.
The average salary in San Fran is 97k.
The average salary in NYC is 77k.

So am I to take that liberal cities earn more? Am I to take that you are envious? Jealousy is ugly. Perhaps those people saved and can afford to live there.

Perhaps these cities attract talented individuals that are worth that income.

Now look at Mississippi and Alabama. Can you guess who the highest earner is in those states? HINT: It's not a private citizen per se. It is the head football coach at a college. I think Nick Saban earns more than anyone in Alabama. You have ONE person on top of a pyramid with very few in the hundreds of thousands and the mass in the 30k range. That is your disparity.

But . . . perhaps if you were to read instead of being the victim of a propaganda campaign you might actually realize all of this.

"have no idea what you are referencing in Alabama and lousiana and don't care"

Because Fox and conservative pundits don't want you to know. You only "know" what they tell you. Poor rural Red counties or states don't fit their narrative.

Continue not caring and displaying your ignorance and partisan outrage. Fox has nobody on their shows that look like you. It's not a coincidence. But continue dancing for your daddy Trump.

@AZ

Minor correction.

People do spend more than they earn. They do it all the time. They take on debt.

Glendale, AZ, Us

A few tings....

The $600 is not so that people will earn more not-working that working. It is to ensure people in the middle class can keep making their debt payments to stop a cascade debt collapse like we were heading for in 2008. AZ medain income is $50K. Maximum unemployment is $240 a week, or $12K a year. Drop the income of someone earning $50K, to $12K, watch the debt, money supply and economy implode. The $600 a week brings that up to almost $45K or the middle class. Hopefully enough to keep the debt from imploding.

So, why not cap it at, say, 70% of what people had been earning? The answer is that most state unemployment systems were written in COBOL bask in the 1960s and is still in use. Maintenance of the software is contracted out to the few 3rd party companies (like NASWA... I actually interviewed with them for a job during my recent unemployment. No, not in COBOL, in a probabilistic statistical matching tool looking to identify fraud.) It would take 3-6 months for the first states to update their systems to be able to handle that change, Some would likely take a year. Hell, it took AZ 2 months just to be able to start handing out a flat $600.

As for everyone having savings, it is mathematically impossible for everyone to be spending less than they earn, for the same reason it is impossible for every country to have a trade surplus. We're looking at 2 year economic impact with this pandemic. NO ONE in the middle class has that kind of money sitting in the bank.

As for areas with wide income disparity being the most likely to be Democrat controlled, it is because the poor tend to vote Democrat... NOT voting Democrat makes people poor. The same reason the areas with the highest murder rate have the strictest gun control The murder rate leads to gun control, not gun control leading to murders.

@TALL

That is an incredible lie.

Have you seen Mississippi?

Have you seen Alabama?

Do you have any knowledge of local politics?

Go ahead, say LA, you do realize that encompasses Orange County when people talk about it. You do realize that encompasses part of the inland empire when people talk about it. Those areas are far from liberal.

But hey . . .

Want to compare any liberal city to phoenix?

ROFL.

Funny how the most Liberal cities are the most unbalanced wealth wise....Yet they blame trump and republicans.....

Santa Barbara, CA, Us

This is an argument I get in with people who live in my area. Where I live is unique to the US. It is an area that is bounded on the east, north and west by mountains. On the south it is bound by the ocean. It looks like a pair of lips from the top down. That area is roughly 20 miles east to west and 5 miles north to south. The next closest place that is inhabitable, is 40 minutes away. You have to go 35 miles to the east to get to a place you can live, you have go 30 miles to the north for a place to live and you can't go west, damn ocean is there. Because of that, housing is obscene. A 1950s tract house, 1200 sq ft. on a 8000 sq ft lot will go for 1.2mm.

I have argued over and over that housing is a humongous issue here that needs to be addressed. Where do the people that serve you food live? Where do people who cut your hair live? Where do the people who protect you from fires live? Where do teachers live? It goes on and on. People respond by stating, "Well, they can just drive or bus in." That's nice. When it costs more to go to work than you are getting paid, there is no incentive to go to work.

This microcosm is the future of what is happening. Not everyone can be a lawyer. Not everyone can be a doctor. Not everyone can be a computer programmer. There is a need for car mechanics. There is a need for ditch diggers. There is a need for bag boys. Those jobs are filled by people who do not have the aptitude to be those other lucrative things.

While others will mock Yang, he was speaking the truth. Technology automation is what replaces jobs. You can argue as much as you want about China, but that isn't shit compared to automation. As a computer person, I am well aware that the work I have done has directly gotten thousands unemployed.

So while the unemployment is helping some by them making more, it is not helping all make more. There are some that make less, some that make the same. What is interesting is that those that make more than they did before are actually getting ahead, instead of behind further. All this does is build a buffer for the rich to rape them from in the future.

TallMark45Veteran
Tempe, AZ, Us

It is very true that the rich are choking a lot of hard working people...and getting worse....I would like to see Biden win to see if that would change, but most likely won't.. What happened when Min. wage went up? rents skyrocketed, fast food prices shot up so the rich got richer and i hate that...so one has to find a skill that they control income as much as possible...Kinda starts with one taking control, i know it is hard for many....Decisions made at a young age will make or break many....and that's too bad...Having purple hair, tattoos, swinging a banner and protesting in the streets will not fill your wallet or pay your bills, sorry to say....will it save lives??? Maybe??? Will it get you killed???? Maybe....Your choice.....

Santa Barbara, CA, Us

Let me correct that . . .

" If you work hard and save you would not need handouts" to

If you work hard and have the ability to save you would not need handouts.

The minimum wage has not kept up with inflation at all. The poor have gotten poorer.
