What's for Dinner

Birmingham, AL, Us

I don't know which sounds better...good German food this side of the pond or rabbit nuggies.

Ellicott, MD, Us

We were thinking of driving to Helna GA, just to have dinner.

Stamford, CT, Us

I’m not. I’m not missing your okra either. Your meals have become extremely interesting!

"Hofbrauhaus Restaurant in Helen, GA"

That sounds seriously fantastic.

More German food - tonight at the Hofbrauhaus Restaurant in Helen, GA.

Potato pancakes with sour cream & applesauce to start then Phoebert had Schweinebraten with roasted carrots & a side of German potato salad and I had Schmorbraten with roasted potatoes & carrots.

It's all good but I'm missing our salads! :-(

Melvin - I never actually threw up, but it was one of those times where I think I would have felt better if I did. Not sure if it was sheer amount of fat in that meal or something else. I usually have a cast iron constitution, but sometimes my gall blander complains and it might have been a small episode of that.

Are you ok in the aftermath of turning your insides out?

Went to a LaCarreta near us. I had a chile relleno and the Mrs has something that looked like a fried taco. Neither of us slept well and I felt sick to my stomach in the bathroom at 1:40 am. Mexican is not one of my favorite cuisines.

Fort Payne, AL, Us

Obviously I live under a rock - we had dinner at Bangkok Haus in Helen and wondered why it was so empty and the Mexican restaurant next door was so busy. ;-)

We started with Basil Rolls (like spring rolls). Phoebert had Red Curry with Shrimp (and fried rice) and I had Pad Kee Mao (I think - the only menu only says Basil Noodle) with Chicken.

Carne picada style meat seasoned with Old El Paso taco seasoning. As close to Taco Tuesday as I could get for Cinco de Mayo.

Come on! It’s taco Tuesday Cinco de Mayo!

Helen is a tourist trap - but a great base of operations for hiking (especially to waterfalls). We're staying in town this time but used to rent a cabin outside town and only venture among the hoards of tourists for dinner.

Don't hike as much anymore but it's still a gorgeous area. And with luck we find good food. Considering a Thai/
Sushi restaurant tonight and more German tomorrow.

Not really, we aren't talking back country camping here. They are mainly RV/Camper oriented, some tent sites and most also rent accommodations of various styles and quality. They range from resort level to more spartan. There are multiple of these across NC. SC and GA. They are also in CA, the northeast and midwest that I know of. Very chill, in unpopulated areas because they are all adult nudist at least.Pool is typically centric like most resorts. All are clothing optional and dependent on location, public sexual activity may or may not be allowed. There is one in PA that is very popular, about 2 1/2 hrs from you for example. They aren't Desire or Hedo but then they are more affordable and convenient.

Stamford, CT, Us

You camp? Very butch.

Helen is such a cool little town! A LS campground is very near there in Cleveland GA.

Based upon the poutine convo earlier today, that's what we went with and I did pulled pork and roasted peppers/onions/mushrooms to go on it.

sampler platter for two at Bodensee Restaurant in Helen, GA and apple strudel with ice cream for dessert

I'd like to meet the two people that can eat that much food - 6 different meats plus German potato salad, spaetzle, red cabbage and sauerkraut. We're taking about half the meats home.

Saturday, I had Chinese takeout: Broccoli and Beef, white rice and a couple of egg rolls. Today, I'll just have some clam chowder.
