Kids in the Hall is going to be great. Just started watching it.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "friendly".

Torontonians are less rude, but definitely not more friendly. They are polite and cordial, but not open and warm.

I find myself, having become a southerner, having little in common with the people I grew up with. They find me to be overly social, willing to chat openly with strangers in a way they are not. I go to grocery store and when I say "hi!" to the cashier, I am glared at like I am some creep trying to pick up a teenage girl. Here, she would ask me what plans I have for the weekend or whatever.

I have become one of "those Americans" I once disliked. Oh well.

"We Own This City" is a new miniseries along the lines of The Wire.

Curr,

Toronto is a very nice city. Possibly the most diverse in the world. It's a smaller version of New York, with friendlier ppl, less mugging and less urine in the streets and trains.

Never been to Toronto but the glory hole sketch was pretty funny.

Windermere, FL, Us

The character Buddy Cole walking through the gentrified area of Toronto where the gay clubs have all been replaced with trendy cafes probably means more to someone who knows Toronto, for instance.

Kind of like a show like Seinfeld. The show's humor isn't completely lost on someone who doesn't grok New York City, but it'll mean more to someone who does.

As for Friends of Mark... I don't know if that was just the answer to a challenge to make the weirdest thing ever aired on TV or what.

Full disclosure: I've only watched the first 5 episodes, so if there are some real turds in the last few, I haven't seen them yet.

I like to think I'm not completely clueless about Canada but the "friends of Mark" sketch left me scratching my head. As did several bits in the last episode. In that case is it lack of cultural context or was the episode just not that funny?

Lots of funny sketches throughout. They just seemed to run out of steam at the end.

The Carlin documentary on HBO is quite good.

Much of what we see in the reboot was nods to the old series and the movie "Brain Candy", so if you are not familiar with those a lot of jokes will fail to land. Very large amounts of the humor are clearly geared towards a Canadian audience- specifically Toronto culture- and will probably miss the mark on those not very familiar with Canadiana.

The "Friends of Mark" sketch was posdibly the most bizarre thing I've ever seen. I am trying to imagine how a writer even describes this in ways a director can bring to life.

And yes the middle aged strippers sketch in the first episode was perhaps the funniest thing I've seen in a very long time.

I found the Italian marriage counseling bit to be very odd but I am forced to give extremely high marks on creativity. "Have you tried pornography?". "Yes, I make 200 - 300 films, but it not for me "

Did not catch Kids in the Hall the first time around but still enjoyed the first few episodes of the reboot. The stripper sketch in the first one was pretty much pants pissingly funny stuff. Unfortunately they seemed to run out of material toward the end of the season.

George Carlin's American Dream, 2 part series on HBO. One of the best documentaries I've seen about him, or any comedian tbh. Deep dive into all aspects of his life. Really digs into the origins of his comedy, and his evolution from cookie-cutter comic to the icon he became.

Tried two episodes of Easy. Made it through one and a half.

Kingdom was worth watching though the climax wasn't up to the quality of the plot intrigue of the rest of the show IMO. I'm not on board for the next season.

My GF has gotten me into "Hacks" on HBO. Some funny situations and some hilarious one liners including one about bisexuality that about made me blow a testicle. Plus I'm old enough to enjoy the intergenerational comic tension from the "generally annoyed by millennials" angle.

Much of the first episode will not make sense to people who haven't seen the movie Brain Candy.

We're really enjoying KITH as well. The opening sketch is pretty creative for a reboot, and they're certainly helping me with any body issues I have remaining.

New episodes of Kids in the Hall, for the first time in almost 30 years.

I watched the first one and just about pissed myself laughing. I am certainly biased due to my nostalgia from it when I was young and seeing them live on my college campus, but holy shit that was funny.

Watched a few episodes of "The Kingdom". Held my attention but I don't see how this makes it through several seasons without inevitably succumbing to the "Rise of the, Fear of the, Revenge of the, Shark Jump of the Walking Dead" syndrome.

But then I've never been all that enamored with either the zombie genre or the super hero genre (vampire genre, werewolf genre, etc). The best entries in the field IMO tend to be parodies. "Sean of the Dead", "What We Do in the Shadows", "Deadpool").

Easy on Netflix has a storyline about open marriage that is thoughtful and intelligent (Season 3, episode 5 has a very honest conversation between husband and wife)

I first watched Night of the Living Dead by myself when I was thirteen, so I'm kind of twisted too.

2much, I have an abby normal love for the zombie genre, although most of the more recent stuff is derivative dreck. Just for fun, I've also been known to insist to some folks that the original Dawn Of The Dead is a documentary. :)

I watched the first episode of Kingdom last night. Good stuff.

I told Mrs. 2much it was a political thriller zombie series with subtitles. She rolled her eyes and said she was happy we have two TV's.

Kingdom is a great series and a ton of fun. It's definitely a nice break from the standard zombie fare that comes from the US.

Fresno, CA, Us

In the first episode of Kingdom, virtually everything is location shoots and practical effects. There's only one scene with visible CGI, and it's understandable why they went that route. Of course that's only the first episode...
