Episode 107: Our Temptation Grand Miches Experience
Show notes
In advance of our group trip to Temptation Grand Miches in the Dominican Republic we visited the resort to experience it ourselves. Through construction delays, supply chain disruptions, hurricanes and normal growing pains the resort is now open for business! Listen in as we describe what we enjoyed and what we think still needs to be improved upon to bring it up to par with the Desire Pearl and Riviera Maya resorts in Mexico.

Hello everyone I'm Mr.
Jones and I mrs jones and we want to welcome you to episode 107 of the we got a thing podcast well we've uh got to apologize right out of the shoes i know this is take two i have to take the blame for this and it's funny because we've trained you all so well over the past nine years that you're going to get you're going to hear from us every month and then last month nothing i know and it's so i might as well confess now i bought new equipment because we are going to go mobile and we're going to be driving back and forth between here and florida and we don't have a studio set up in the new place.
So I bought new technology, new equipment, and we recorded three weeks ago with good intentions. And it didn't, the technology works just not as we anticipated. Is that the right thing to say? The quality control guy had real issues with the recording.
I mean, we could have released it, but't happy with the way you said there was an echo that would be annoying yeah your your voice was bleeding into mine and mine yours and i've got to figure out a good solution for that before we try that again so we we dug all of our old equipment back out dusted it off and we could and the reason that it's been a while is because after we threw that podcast out we had our washington dc event yeah which we're going to talk about next month because we got so much to talk about because we're we got a log jam now of things we need to talk about yeah and then we were out of town last weekend we went to new york city yeah Yeah.
So we haven't had a chance to re-record. And a lot of you have been checking in on us. And thank you for doing that. We're alive and kicking and still podcasting and apologize for the delay. And we still like each other for the most part. I've done some serious pouting about this. Yes, you did. Because we really think the last recording was good. It was good.
a good podcast it was again you'll have to blame the quality control guy i can't help it because i if i can't listen to it without cringing other people would be doing the same thing oh i agree like it wasn't worth i mean i tried to fix it i tried everything i knew to fix i called people to try to help and we, I just, it was useless. Anyway, here we are. Yep. Uh, before we get started tonight, we have to, um, start off with some bad news and some condolences.
Um, you all have probably heard by now, but our friend, uh, Bomber from Bomber in the Bell, the cohost of the Black and Kinky podcast has passed away suddenly last month and took a lot of us by surprise. Yeah, it's unimaginable. He was a young, healthy man. Yeah, and they had such a great life and a young son and everything going for them and and they were a big influence in the, well, the black and kinky community and the lifestyle, a voice that was missing for a long time. And I think that they've inspired some others to come along behind.
And so hopefully that gap will be filled, but he will be missed and they will be missed we don't know what plans that she might have but um we just wanted to say that um we they were on uh one of our podcasts with us early on when we when we podcasted about um race yeah and we've had the we've had the pleasure of running into them at various events um so yeah we've we've lost a friend yes so bomber we miss you and uh bell our hearts go out to you and your young son and that um we hope that you'll get through this we don't want to be tough but um it's a reminder that life is really well you know that's what we ended up talking about is that you you just never know.
You just never know. And so while, and I mean, I'm still dealing with a health issue. Yeah. So you just never know what's going to come up in life. So take advantage of today. Yes. Well said. Okay. So back to events. What's going on? Our November 2023 Pearl trip is sold out, but we've had a couple of cancellations, so you might want to get on the waiting list if you're interested in going to Pearl. Yeah, get on the waiting list, and whenever you have a free minute, if you're serious, pick up the phone and call. Because sometimes I think that's the most successful way to get a room.
Yeah, Desire's not known for their, let's say, processes that they have in place. Right. And they have various departments, you know. And sometimes I don't think the departments have a process for communicating. Yes. So, yeah, picking up the phone and calling is always a surefire way if there is a spot. Yeah.
And we do i think we may have a room or two available for our trip coming up in just a couple of weeks we're going back to uh grand michez uh june sept june 17th through 24th and because payments are coming due you know we've had a air airfare from the west coast to the dr is really expensive yeah i think a lot of people were hoping that it would come down and i guess it hasn't no but my worry is that the room the the resort was such deeply discounted this year yeah so that's not going to happen next year so even if airfare goes down it may totally be about the same price but we understand but if you're interested in going um please check out try to book that through our website and hopefully you can join us in a few weeks if you have flexible travel yeah and hopefully after you hear what we have to say about grand mitches it'll motivate you i think so because yeah a little spoiler alert we had a.
We did have a good time and we're looking forward to going back. Um, so this is the time of year that we, we did this last year. We only do it once a year. We offer, um, a discount to come in and get and give our community a try. Um, so this year we're doing something a little bit different, uh, through June of 2023. So if you're listening to us before June of 2023, you can get, we have three choices. We have 50% off of a monthly membership for the first month, 15% off of a semi-annual for the first semi-annual period, and 10%, for the annual subscription for the first year. Yeah.
And you don't need to memorize that. If you go to our website, it's all spelled out. Everything is on our website. The promo codes are on the website and we hope you'll take advantage of that because our community continues to grow. We love our new platform. I think everybody's getting the hang of it now. And we have our newest space that we have is our Faith Matters group. And this is being led by someone who is an ordained clergy person and also a counselor. And so we have a few couples helping us with that, and that group has really taken off. And it's really not about evangelism.
It's about reconciling your faith, whatever your faith is. Right. We all have this, some sort of value system, whether you attribute that to growing up in a church or a synagogue, we all have a value system. And sometimes when you first encounter the lifestyle, no matter what your background is, you know, we're kind of brainwashed by society to think this is wrong. Yeah.
So how do you make peace with that so that you can, you know, actually get into this new environment and enjoy yourself and not feel, you know, guilt and shame and all the things that we're programmed to feel when we don't live on that path that society deems acceptable. So this group that's been created is more of a group about not what to believe or how to believe, but how to make sense of that for yourself. Right, and giving you permission to question things.
And there's nobody in the group that's telling people how to do this it's mostly people just sharing their experiences and asking questions yeah so we hope that you'll take advantage of that again that's through the end of june of 2023 um we as we mentioned we did just have our dc event but so much happened that we're gonna wait until until next time to talk about that. It was a lot of fun. It was fun. But we just got back from New York City. We probably have time to talk about that. Yeah. So it was a family weekend. That was the focus. Yes.
But we went up and spent the weekend with lifestyle friends that live like right in the middle of downtown. Yeah. And just had a great time catching up with them. And you had never been to New York City before. I know.
Well, you know, I did a lot of traveling in my career and I always tried to avoid New York City just because, I mean, my perception of it with flying up there and getting from the airport downtown and it just it never appealed to me so I always avoided it but this time there was no excuse because first of all we had a good reason to go up there it was a family event second of all we had friends that like you said that lived in downtown that we could stay with yeah but mostly we could just walk down the street and get on the train yes and literally less than a mile from our house and five and a half hours later we were coming up out of the subway or out of the train station in new york city yeah it was amazingly simple and relaxing and yeah we didn't have to worry about a car we didn't have to worry about because, because the airports are so far from downtown Manhattan.
You know, so, you know, even if you fly in, it's a quick flight, but then you have to deal with getting into downtown. Like, we just popped up and took a five-minute Uber ride to our friend's apartment, and we were there. And I'm glad that I went. I checked off a lot of bucket list things. We did a lot in three days. We did. We walked to Times Square. And Rockefeller Center. And Rockefeller Center. And you got to get your picture taken in front of your crazy friends at the Today Show. I know. And just that place is just so overwhelming.
I mean was just there's people everywhere and uh i i like they have the signs on the pedestrian signs on the sidewalk that say basically they say you better keep moving or you're gonna get run over you have to learn to step out of the way if you're gonna stop and look at your watch or your phone or something like that but it was beautiful weather yeah we couldn't have had better weather yeah it was like in the high 70s sunny yeah and then in the afternoon we we toured the um 9-11 memorial yeah which we had not done before which is not fun but it was so meaningful no and we had a wonderful tour guide he did such a good job of telling the story and actually kind of like putting you there that day yeah well he he did that and he told a lot of individual stories of people who are not well known that were uh heroes yeah during that day uh it was it was really moving and that and that was a couple hours on thursday afternoon then uh we we what else did we do oh we went to see a broadway play we did oh gosh we saw um uh hadestown yeah and um we had gone out to a nice dinner before that and really really cool restaurant around the corner from the theater and then yeah hadestown was fantastic yeah music was incredible and it was a really interesting story yeah i'm afraid if i lived in that area we'd be spending a lot of money oh we would spend all of our extra money on that there's nothing like every week there's nothing like just the talent you know the the creativity and the storyline the talent the acting this and this is a musical so the singing um and all of the choreography and the set you know the all of that is just mind-boggling to watch how many talented people there are yeah putting that on night after night after night yeah sometimes two shows a day yeah it was it was just incredible so much fun yep uh we got to go to a new york city diner yep we went to the diner where the waiters and waitresses sing between serving you what was that the stardust stardust cafe yeah we went to that of course we got back um we got bagels yeah and uh new york pizza new york yeah we got a slice of pizza yep which was nice we um oh and then we did a boozy brunch on Saturday morning.
Yeah, you guys, you know, I didn't drink, you guys drank. I know, you were off your feet or something, I don't know. I had coffee. We had bottomless mimosas. And then we took a walk through Central Park. Well, I ran in Central Park in the morning with the friend that we were staying with.
He and I ran five miles, and we got out there probably around eight o'clock and there were a lot of people out there were a lot of runners and bike riders and people walking their dogs but then later when the four of us went back to walk through the park i thought there was a concert going on there were so many people packed into that park i know but but if you think about the lifestyle there um how you have to live i should say you know everything is is vertical right so there's no yards you know the dog the poor pets they're up on the 25th floor or higher and have to come down to the ground do their business and kids don't have a place to play so that park really does central park really is a good um everybody flocks there yep yep it was awesome we got to ride the subway we did oh we um well we were at central park we had it went in and uh had drinks at tavern on the green we did that was fancy i know that was fancy fancy yeah uh what else did we went to carnegie hall yes we did saw a performance there so i don't think there was anything i mean there's still a lot of things that we could do oh yeah like we didn't get to see the statue of liberty although we took a cruise once and we sailed by it yeah um i wanted to do one of the boat tours that go down the Hudson and around the around the tip of manhattan up the east river yeah so that's on my list to do still and we need to get down to brooklyn and the bronx and you know maybe some other boroughs and go we didn't go any further north than central park either yeah so a lot left to do and fortunately we have good friends up there i know and now we know the train is so easy.
Oh, my gosh. Yeah, we'll do that again. And then, as I mentioned earlier, it's been 13 months since my surgery, not that I'm counting. I am.
Still waiting on nature, my nerves to heal, and for me to be able to get an erection on my own and of course um you know the all the anxiety that comes along with that and trying to find medications and just navigating this whole mess has been a little bit of a struggle yeah well it's obviously not the timeline we were hoping for right so being patient is getting more difficult definitely but but that just goes back to what you were saying earlier is you know we we can't take our health for granted when we have it and yeah you know we're not we're not spring chickens anymore no so when this kind of stuff happens yeah don't bring up the whole spring chicken thing.
I'm a little sensitive about that right now. Somebody has a big birthday next week. I know. You don't want to talk about that? No, I don't. Everything's fine. I'm clinging on to my 50s for as long as I can. So it's a new decade. Is that what you're saying? Possibly. How the heck did that happen? I don't know. Well, we have plans. We have plans for your birthday. It's going to be fun. It is going to be fun. Yeah. All right. Well, that, except for our DC event, which we'll talk about next time. Yeah. That brings you up to date on everything.
Again, we apologize for the delay in getting this podcast out but when we come back um in segment two we're going to talk about our maiden voyage to temptation grand michez and how we are pleasantly surprised yes and looking forward to going back next month yeah so and so we'll probably talk about it then too but yeah anyway um we'll be right back We'll see you next time. about it then too. But anyway, we'll be right back. Welcome back to segment two, our review of Temptations Grand Meeches.
Yeah, we decided to dedicate this whole podcast to Grand Meeches because this has been a long time coming. Yeah. You know, they have been building this resort for a couple of years now um i think it's no surprise when you'll hear us say that they had a really rough start trying to get it opened uh not only were their construction delay delays but there was a hurricane um there's a whole lot that went into that but they finally finally did get open, I think, in December, right? Yeah, I think they did a soft opening in December, just to open up some of the buildings. Yeah. Yeah.
And so, fortunately, we have a few friends who were going to go there and celebrate a birthday, and they invited us along. And we thought it would be a good time to go and check out the place before we bring our group. Yeah. Well, we had planned on doing that anyway, so then it was just a no-brainer to go when they were going. Right. So what do you think? Did you have a good time? I had a much better time than I thought I was going to have because I am very biased towards Desire Pearl just because I have an emotional attachment to it because that's the first place we went.
You know, that's where we discovered the lifestyle actually. Like we really didn't know anything about the lifestyle before we went there. So I'm, you know, I'm very attached to that. And then over the years, you know, we know so many of the staff and like the Desire Resorts, you know, they must be doing something right because they have relatively low turnover with their staff. You know, you see like from gardeners to management, you see the same people trip after trip after trip. Right. So it's at all levels that they have a lot of staff loyalty.
And that really, um, I think has an impact on the, the culture of the resort and the and the environment that they are able to establish right so i thought oh my gosh you know it's temptation grand meters is in a different country you know it's going to be all new staff and you know how are they going to know how to create that special magical atmosphere that we all like go there for? Yeah. And I think I, you know, the expectations, you know, like I said, first of all, they had construction delays. Then they had the hurricane.
Then they came out with the policy that policy changed that you couldn't be, it was not going to be clothing optional at the pool, only at the hot tub and in the playroom. Right, and that was a very unpleasant surprise. So that was like the third strike. And a lot of people bowed out at that point in time or made a decision that, well, if it's not, if I can't, if it's not going to be the same clothing optional vibe as RM and Pearl, then we're just going to pull out and go back to Mexico. Right, because that's a sure bet. Yeah. But we wanted to go anyway and see for ourselves. Right.
So we're going to just step through kind of each different phase of our trip. And let's start with transportation. Okay.
Well, for us on the east coast um from the washington dc area it's a to go to cancun it's about what a three hour and 15 minute flight yeah this was a four hour flight so it was you know about a half an hour 45 minutes longer for us still direct but for yeah and we got a direct flight so it was um very easy for us to get to the airport in punta cana right you know but then you do have um according to mr jones it's an hour and 22 minutes well i had heard all kinds of numbers and we we we booked our um transportation privately and it it worked out okay we had we had private transportation and i've heard people say two hours an hour and 45 and i timed it both ways and it was an hour and 22 minutes from the time we got into that transport and it's good wi-Fi service the whole way.
The guy handed us a beer when we got in. And it's a beautiful drive. Once you get outside of Punta Cana and the rolling mountains, or not even rolling mountains, they're kind of sharp mountains because it's a volcano. Yeah, yeah. It's weird because the mountains are very jaggedy. Yeah. But they're green. They're very lush.
You know, when I think of of jaggedy mountains i think of the rocky mountains and and you know so many um views of the rockies are just you know lots of sheer like rock faces and such yeah you know this was completely lush green mountains like right there yeah coconut trees everywhere um farmland it was really pretty now if you want to save an hour each way, you can pay about four times more than we did, and you can have a helicopter take you from the airport. It's a 20-minute helicopter ride.
So you have to think about, okay, you're going to spend a grand each way on that, and you're going to get two hours more of vacation.
So for us that didn't make a lot of sense but we did meet some people that took the helicopter and it lands right out in front parking lot yeah there's a hello there's like a helicopter parking lot yeah right there in front of the resort and they said the helicopter ride was amazing yeah you know so i mean it's getting there it's getting you there faster but they also really like really enjoyed the like the experience yeah so transportation was as expected you know it's it's longer than it takes to get from cancun to to pearl but that is what it is yep um the facility unlike rm uh and pearl before the mansion and for the upgrades they're doing at rm it's beautiful yeah it's modern very sleek modern lots of white marble and yeah yeah and it's planned out like the other two resorts were taken over they weren't they were acquired they were pre-, and desire turned them into what they wanted.
Yeah. Is that true for RM? I know it is for Pearl. Yeah. Well, I don't know. I shouldn't say that. Yeah. But they're doing the same thing with RM now, with the new edition that they're putting it on. They're making it more to match the identity and the vibe of what they do at the resort. Yeah. So what I mean is that, you know, it's thoughtfully laid out and it's not as... It's very efficient. Yeah. Like the Grand Miche side is very efficient. Yeah. Everything's kind of like focused around the main pool. Right. Yeah, so you have a nice pool, and the pool has a nice swim-up bar.
There's a nice area behind the pool with a table and chairs and another bar behind the same bar that's in the pool. Yeah.
The hot tub is still—you have to go up a flight of stairs to get to the hot tub there's no elevator no but the flight of stairs is wide and it's well lit and there's handrails and the steps are deep yes it's very it's much different than rm it's a lot safer yes yeah and it's not it's more like a heated pool yes there's no bubbles yeah than a hot tub it's a big square um and then there you know the there's a swim up bar that takes up one whole side of the square and then the other three sides are just um benches all the way around which is cool um but it's huge like i would say it's the size of the pearl hot tub if you kind of put that inside of a square yeah you know um and it's heated so basically it's a heated pool instead of a jacuzzi right and there's and there's 12 beds around it And then there are also probably just as many lounge chairs oh more than that yeah 12 sets of lounge chairs and then there's a row of beds behind the lounge chairs on that one side where the cubbies are right and then there's glass partition a frosted glass around the perimeter so that people down below can't see in yeah but And just like the pool um the bar at the pool the main pool the bar at the hot tub also has like a reverse side to it that um opens up onto like a covered patio up there and there's like tons of like sofa outdoor sofa seating and like high top tables so there's a there's it's just a huge gathering space so it's a little bit of a different vibe um people were going up there earlier in the day because you can get a lounge chair like at pearl you can't you don't go to the hot tub if you want to lay in the sun right at pearl but here i mean it's right out in the sun you can go up there and take your clothes off and lotion up the bar opens at 11 so yeah and but there are no playmakers up there you know there's there's no activities going on it's just basically a heated pool where you can be naked um so that's the kind of the description we have friends that went up there more than once during the week and they will go up and like lay out naked for a while and then they'd have a little nooner and then they come back to hang with the rest of us it actually just it gives you more options yeah um because you've got the main pool which is where the playmakers hang out and that's where the music is and right you know that's where the party is right um and the um then the hot tub up there is like more chill sensual you can go up there and have sex whenever you want to during the day.
Right. And then the other thing that we need to talk about if we're talking about like options during the day is the beach. Yes. Yeah. The beach. The beach is amazing. It is so beautiful. Yeah. It's nothing like, there's no sargassum. No. And it's the Atlantic Ocean, but it looks like a cove because there are two peninsulas that jut out from either direction as you're standing on the beach. And so you have these jagged mountains that kind of form a cove. And you look to the left and you look to the right and you see no body. Right, right.
There's like a private house if you walk to the left and you look to the right and you see no body right right there was there's like a private house if you walk to the right a few hundred yards um but it's way back in the trees yeah and then um and then of course temptation resort which we have to talk about as well is on the left but other than that you know the the whole temptation and then grand mitches resorts that's all that's in that cove yeah it is so serene and private and like the sand is white and there's no like goobers like i actually got in the ocean which kind of surprised me i know because normally i'm like oh there's seaweed oh there's rocks oh there's like whatever and the water was like so just the perfect temperature warm and it was just gorgeous so if you're a beach person you're gonna like the beach a whole lot better than cancun yeah the playroom is really nice the playroom is off of the through the doors where the hot tub is upstairs and that's much bigger than the one at pearl which is not hard to do i would say it's the size of the one at our yeah i think so yeah and and again it's it's very thoughtfully put together yes um the disco is up there um and what we'll talk about entertainment in a minute and come back to the disco but just for the facility purposes the disco is right behind the hot tub on that same level um just to orient yourself.
And it's nice and big too. And it had really nice like sofa seating in it. Like we were, there were, I think, eight of us sitting on a couch that one night. And that sofa that we were on was only about, because it was curved. It was kind of like a semicircle. We, it was not full it was huge yeah um the rooms are nice we had a beautiful room we had a walkout room um i would say that one of the negative things is kind of the finish work in the rooms is a little bit less than what i expected well i think they were in the middle of all that finished carpentry work when the hurricane hit. Yeah.
And I think that getting all of that repair done and then all that finished work done was kind of rushed. I mean, that's what it looks like. Well, there's still spacers between some of the wall tiles all over the resort.
And then some of the trim, like the shoe mold and the door trim and the furniture, is pressed kind of that particle board yeah you know it's not even real wood and you can tell it's already starting to warp yeah and i mean and you know that could have also been in when the hurricane hit because we were told that a lot of windows broke so i imagine the rooms got wet yeah and the the landscaping is really nice but again the hurricane took down quite a few trees you know in front of the resort yeah but but it you know they do a really good job of keeping it clean and landscaped on the inside oh my gosh speaking of trees yeah we were over on the temptation side like up in the like one of the meeting rooms and there were these two huge trees right outside the windows and we asked what they were and they were like those are mango trees and then i looked and there must have been like thousands of mangoes and i don't think i'm exaggerating it was huge i mean both of these trees were just full of mangoes but they weren't in season so i'm hoping when we go back in june it's mango season, because that's going to be amazing.
Yeah. So we'll talk about food in a minute, but there are multiple restaurants. You know, at Pearl, sometimes it's difficult to get a reservation if you're not Premier, because there's only two or three places to eat. Yeah.
But when you're staying at Gran Meeches, not only are there several restaurants at Gran Meeches, but you can go next door to temptation and and utilize those restaurants as well yeah that's a nice option so we had no problems getting dinner reservations like i mean we got reservations and there's more variety yeah and then you could get it for like 7 or 7 30 yeah it was prime time that you could get a dinner reservation now i think the resort was about 60 full when we were there so it wasn't at capacity right so obviously that made things easier right um so you know we'll see because i think it's going to be pretty much sold out when we go in june yeah so we'll see what that looks like right report back so speaking of the temptation side um a completely different vibe uh where where grand michez is really sensual and uh what would you say that that it's it's smaller um you know it's quiet more quiet yeah temptations uh reminds me of our trip to vegas like when we stayed at the virgin yeah and there's boom's out there all day and speakers all over the place it's a huge it's a huge resort yeah it's huge and it's all centered around this big big party pool that was gorgeous yeah um and they they really like they really tried to be um they really thought of everything because Because that pool is, like, out in the open.
And, of course, the sun's beating down. But they have these, like, these fixed sails, like, these metal sails, like, over the pool to provide shade. Yeah. And there's actually a nice overhang at the Grand Meeches pool as well. Yes. For shade. So they, you know. And to get out in the rain. Yeah. Although we had great weather. Well, it rained one night. One night. Yeah. Yeah, so it's a... I mean, it's like Temptations in Cancun. It is. I mean, obviously it's Temptations. And there's singles there. And yeah, it's definitely a party vibe. Yeah, younger crowd. Which we took advantage of.
I mean, we went over there several nights. So they were smart about it because what they do at Grand Meeches is that the show every night, just like the shows at Pearl and RM, the show every night is at 930. Right.
and um and then the it what's different about it is that the show is always um supported by a house band so instead of having a dj or whatever that the house band participates in the show every night so they have dancers and they all work together as a team and the shows are really fun yeah so let's go ahead and talk about the entertainment because i the house band was amazing yeah and i'm pretty tough on you're very tough not i mean not that they have to sound american but even though they were all uh from dominican they you could understand what their word you could understand what they were singing yeah you know there wasn't a strong accent.
It wasn't like somebody trying to be Barry Manilow. Right, right. And they were talented musicians. And then they played every night for the entertainment.
And then where at Pearl, the entertainment is in the disco, at Grand Meechee's, there's a courtyard area out in in the middle of the resort kind of like at rm yes and that's where the entertainment that's where the show is at night and there's a bar right next to it that i guess they it's kind of the equivalent to the lobby bar yeah and it's open 24 hours but that is so much nicer to be outside and watching the show um because it's you know you got a breeze going you're not cramped in that disco yeah um and then they open the dance floor afterward you know just like a desire yeah but then what's i guess beneficial about having the temptation resort next door is that the temptation show starts at 10 30 yeah so what we did i'd say we did it at least half the time is we would you know watch the show at 9 30 dance for a little while Thank you.
starts at 10 30 yeah so what we did i'd say we did it at least half the time is we would you know watch the show at 9 30 dance for a little while and then we would walk over to temptation because the show is different over there every night like they have different theme nights so the show would be different so we go over there at 10 30 watch that show dance for a while and like their disco at temptation is actually outside yes their dance floor is designed it's permanently designed as a dance floor but it's outside and it's huge really nice bar over there i mean it's really well laid out and then then so we go over there for a while and then we would come back over and like go either into the disco if the disco was still going on at Grand Meechee's or we would just go to the hot tub.
Right. So. We would come back over and, like, go either into the disco, if the disco was still going on at Grand Meechee's, or we would just go to the hot tub. Right. So it was a pretty good, like, you had alternatives to your evening. Yes. It was, entertainment was fabulous. And the playmakers were excellent.
I know we got wind of an issue or two that they had with some of the playmakers early on with consent and kind of crossing that line from entertainment to personally getting involved but we didn't experience that but i think that's you know that's one of the things that's gonna have to be a learning curve for them i mean because this is such a different concept, you know. For that country, yeah. Yeah, and for people that have not, I mean, this is a whole new team coming together, trying to model what is tried and true and established in Mexico. Right.
You know, and obviously there's a learning curve. There's a learning curve. But I think that the playmakers, in my opinion, have got it figured out. Like they were just the right amount of playful and, you know, but respectful. Yes. Yeah. It was good. Yeah. They were really good. And that one guy just had, he drug me up there for a dance lesson and I hate doing that. But his ass was so fine. I just stood behind him and I just watched his ass the whole time. It was good.
I just stood behind him and I just watched his ass the whole time yeah all the other ladies were spinning around and you didn't move no I was just looking there's a little drool coming out of the side of my mouth I mean his booty was beautiful nobody could really blame you I know but speaking of the disco uh if you don't like loud music, don't go in the disco. Oh, my God. Yeah. It was painfully loud. Now, a lot of people are in there dancing, and that's what a disco is for. So if you want the quiet, you can step outside. The doors are right there, or you can go back down to the lobby bar.
So there's options, but the disco is loud. It loud it is loud and it's a shame like i would have loved to spend more time in there because it was a beautiful disco like again laid out well nice bar um but dang it was loud i mean and then the hot tub's right outside there and it's like oh we could just go out in the hot tub and the music is um much better during the day that they play at the pool i mean they were playing 70s 80s Thank you. Thank you. Bye-bye.
it's like oh we could just go out in the hot tub and the music is um much better during the day that they play at the pool i mean they were playing 70s 80s and 90s music at the pool yeah it was so we we enjoyed the music there yeah so you get the techno music over at temptation but then you know over at grand mitches like you said it was 70s 80s 90s it was just really really fun music yeah contemporary stuff yeah so that was that was the entertainment no no complaints oh wait there's one more thing about the entertainment i have to bring up what's that i had to work one morning oh right and you were bored because i was on my computer so you went ahead and went out and got the beach chairs or the pool chairs and all that stuff and i'm well first of all i had a work call so i'm on the team's meeting luckily i know the person really well that i was on the team's meeting with because as soon as i started the meeting shake that ass for me was the song that came on and our room was right by the pool like Like it was coming through the glass.
So I said, I had to apologize in advance for the music and she was just laughing. And then I look outside and who is standing in the pool doing water aerobics with a, but a, with a pool noodle, but Mr. Jones himself. And you never do that kind of stuff.
Well, there were some ladies in there that looked lonely oh okay so well i have to say that um i mean i'm a fairly active guy and i've always poo-pooed that when you look in and they're just dancing around with a pool noodle up in the air but let me tell you what after 20 minutes of holding that pool noodle up in the air my arms were burning i was even cheating when she wouldn't look and I was putting my hands down in the water.
So it would have been double embarrassing if, first of all, you see me in there with the pool noodle, and then second of all, you see me cheating because I can't keep my arms up in the air. I could not believe it when I looked out there. That made my whole trip. I just regret not getting a photo. Yeah. I miss yeah i'll probably do it again uh let's talk about the management and the staff okay and this is where i think uh one of their larger issues is and that is just communication overall is difficult. Checking in, you know, we had a little bit of a snafu with our registration.
I didn't have a particular document that I was supposed to bring. And they didn't understand what I was telling them. And it took us a day to get that worked out just because I think there was just, it was, it's hard to communicate. They don't, they don't speak English as well as the staff does in Cancun. Right. Well, and, and I mean, we've been to Dominican Republic, I think five times now. Yeah. And, and that's just, yes, that's typical for Dominican. Yeah. And this is across the resort.
so whether it's the playmakers are pretty good but like the restaurant staff um you know you just have to be a little bit patient when you go over there and they're happy people oh yeah and they want to do a good job yeah they want to help you i think some people were getting frustrated when when you have a situation that needs to be resolved you're frustrated already and then when there's you can't find anybody that listens to you or understands what you're saying, that just makes it more frustrated.
So you just have to go in knowing that that's one of these learning curves, that over a period of time, and they retain their staff and get used to it. Right. I mean, hopefully, you know, they'll have a low turnover rate.
And as people are there long enough, and, you know, i think it'll get easier to communicate right and then one of the best experiences we had that was a relief because we're bringing a pretty good big group out there next month and we hadn't talked to any of the management well the general manager sat down with us and he brought the concierge and i think the premier rep was there and there were a couple more people there. Um, and we laid out what we wanted to do, um, in June and they said, yep, no problem. And, and they had some really good ideas for us too. Yeah.
They actually made a lot of really good suggestions on creative things that they could do for us. And I mean, the, the biggest blessing is that the general manager used to work at desire pearl yeah he knew who we were so yeah we've met him before so he he's aware of of the groups that we bring yeah so we were like shoo okay this is going to be all right yeah but they have like a sports bar over at um temptation that they're going to let us use yeah they have a conference room over atation that we can use. They're going to let us use the hot tub for one of our events in June.
So everything that we wanted to do, they came up with quickly a place to have that and a solution for it. Yeah, because I was kind of nervous. We hadn't been to the resort, and I didn't know what our options were going to be.
we've been to pearl so many times other group now it's just right you know it's it's seamless um but they they are really trying um and they're really they really want to please people yes so i think it's going to be really fun well when we left there was one particular um bartender that kind of we took a liking to and she's she's the cutest thing doesn't speak very good english but and and i noticed people getting a little frustrated with her because she was so meticulous when she made a drink like if if it needed to be muddled she muddled it she makes the best mojitos and if the if if you wanted your glass rinsed out she would put soapy water in it and we'll rinse it out and dry it off and she would make the drink and then she would have you tasted and she wanted it to be perfect so it took her you know extra time to make the drink but she was so pleasant and she was so happy like when you liked your drink she was so happy and then when we recognized her at the end of the week and gave her a tip she was just so she didn't really know how to to respond to that yeah she was yeah she's very cute yeah very sweet and then our butler was amazing yes he was and he spoke very good english yes i mean very good care of us there were there were quite a few staff members that spoke perfect english so we're you know don't go there thinking that you're not gonna be able to communicate with anybody right but we you are going to encounter people that are still learning english and and again like i say i am not going to be monolingual in my next life like i want to be able to speak more languages i feel so ignorant not being able to speak other languages right um the guests i think we noticed that this is a more diverse crowd than in mexico yes very much so a lot of south america represented canada germany of course the u.s um a much more diverse few europeans because it's easier i mean it's quicker for them yeah to get and it's closer to south america yeah so there was a lot of people from south america there so that so we did notice that they didn't have any problems taking the clothes off so that's all that's all that matters right that's a universal language that's right get naked um and and we mentioned temptation but the contrast between the people it's definitely a different vibe it's more of a vegas party party vibe over there younger a little bit of younger crowd uh single people you know you said something earlier about grand mitches is more quiet and i don't really think it was quiet well that's true you know it's just not it's not that loud thumping music and everybody um like doing shots all the time and although i did do some shots while i was there yeah um but it i thought it was just the right level of party and fun, but you, you know, you could hear yourself think, and there were places to gather, like, you know, cause we had six couples in our party.
Um, you know, so there's, there were places that you could gather and sit down and talk and you can hang out at the beach.
So there are places to like chill, but at the same time, the playmakers keep things moving all day long yes definitely uh so the vibe um and routine was the word i couldn't come up with before the routine the daily routine is a little bit different just because of how they do things there um but it's the vibe i think is similar to pearl um you know the even though the guys weren't able to go bottomless in the pool, there were some guys that had thongs on and string thongs, and I was pretty close to being. Yeah. And you wear bottoms anyway when we go to Pearl, so it was no different for you.
Right. And my bottoms are G-string. There's a little triangle in the front and then dental floss in dental floss in the back and so and that's fine i was wearing the little like bikini type bathing suits too yeah i mean you have a couple thongs babe you forgot to put those in the suitcase last time oh oops i'm gonna make sure i'm gonna supervise your packing a little more closely when we go in June. I mean, I'm not going to lie. It is a bummer to get out of the pool and have a wet bathing suit on, even though it's a small bathing suit. Yeah, I know. That's one difference that I noticed.
But, I mean, was it, did it impact your fun? No.
I, after the first day, it's funny, I'm saying the same thing about wearing a bathing suit that i said about not wearing a bathing suit 10 years ago after a day i didn't even notice that there were still sexy people you know and that's the thing it's about the vibe and it's about the people yes you see more skin at pearl and rm no doubt about it but it's the same it's the same people in the same type of resort yeah there were a lot of people playing at the hot tub yes those beds were really active yes very much so even groups of people yeah yeah there were lots of groups of people yes on the beds so there's not it's not like there's a bunch of prudes there there were people getting their money's worth at the hot tub yeah that's for sure Thank you.
Yeah, there were lots of groups of people on the beds. So it's not like there's a bunch of prudes there. There were people getting their money's worth at the hot tub. Yeah, that's for sure. And, you know, the other thing about, like, I guess the opposite vibe than the hot tub is the beach. You know, because it's like really, there's two areas for the beach.
Oh, you know one thing we haven't talked about babe is the um the moat yeah so there is a man-made moat built around grand mitches and it goes it separates temptation from temptation grand mitches and there's um a footbridge up near the lobby that you can get from one resort to the other so like when we go to the nightclub at night Thank you.
temptation grand mitches and there's um a foot bridge up near the lobby that you can get from one resort to the other so like when we go to the nightclub at night um over in temptation you have to go across this foot bridge and there's a gate on the temptation side and there's a guard standing there yeah and he looks at your bracelet you know and um you know anybody can go to temptation but the temptation people can't come over to grand right without a grand bracelet right so you know, anybody can go to Temptation, but the Temptation people can't come over to Grand without a Grand bracelet.
Right. So, you know, that provides security. And then the moat runs all the way down between the two resorts. But then once it hits the beach, it turns and it goes in front of Grand Miches. It divides the pool area of the resort with the beach area. Right. Yeah. So it separates the pool from the beach. And then there's, again, a footbridge that goes over the moat. Pretty wide. Yeah. It's a walkway. It's not a bridge. Yeah. A big walk, like a decking walkway kind of thing that goes over. And there's a security guard there as well.
And then there's also lifeguards and security guards on the actual beach itself. Yes. It is a public beach. I think there is a, like the town of Miches, I think is like, it's a five minute cab ride.
I don't know how far it is distance wise, but I think you can kind of get there from the beach if you go around the, like the edge of the cove um so we would occasionally see people come by on motorbikes i think they were like using motorbikes as taxis yeah they were yeah yeah that was kind of interesting um you're supposed to wear swimsuits on the beach and that includes a top for the ladies now i took two tops with me they were both little tiny triangle tops one of them was sheer red material and the other one was black fishnet material. So you could see my nipples, like, both tops. Yeah.
But they didn't care. I had a top on. Yeah. And I guess my point is that even though it's a public beach and you might occasionally see these, like, motorbikes going by with people on the back, I never saw any children like at desire pearl it can get a little weird because families walk by because it's a public beach and it's actually pretty active right you know as far as it being a walkway this is super private right and then like on the beach itself where the water is there's three big, like, cabana beds and then some lounge chairs.
And then back away from the water a little bit, when you first come over the walkway, like, once you cross the moat, there's a whole nother sandy area that's completely, like, surrounded by trees. It's, like, really private. Yeah. And they have tons of chairs there, too. And that would be, a really good place to just go and kind of like breathe, like if you just needed a moment. Very, very beautiful. Oh, my gosh. Well, and the overall week for us, we were not there just to review the resort. We were there to be with our friends, but also you and I were not in charge of anything.
It was glorious. So we got to, we got to stay connected as a couple for a lot of the week and we could just do what we wanted to do when we wanted to do it, which was fun. Yeah. We didn't really have to look at the clock. I mean, I had to work a couple of days, but it was just a couple hours here and there. So that's not a bad office. No. Oh, the wifi was really good.
really good yes oh yeah for those of you that do need to work while you're there no issues good cell service and good wi-fi oh and i wanted to say one uh oh i know our overall experience um one thing that i was a little disappointed about was the quality of alcohol yeah not the Not the quality of the drinks. I think they did what they could. But like I couldn't get, at Pearl, I can get Grey Goose. Right. And you can get Hendrix Gin. Right. But at Grand Meeches, they didn't have it. No. And what was odd was when we went to Temptation, the bar at Temptation did have a Grey Goose and a Hendricks.
But it was an upcharge. No, well, one of them said Premier. Right. And the other was an upcharge. We could get Belvedere if we were Premier over there. Right, right. But on the Grand Meechee side, which should be the fancier side, there was no Belvedere to choose choose from even if you were premier so not even at the lobby bar right right so that that was disappointing the quality of alcohol was it was just odd that you would have that over at temptations and not have it at grand mitche's but yeah i mean i expected it to be like the stock the same way it would be stocked in Mexico. Yeah.
And it wasn't. However, like I said earlier, the mojitos were to die for. Yeah. And they have a lot of passion fruit there. I guess it is obviously it's local and they would have like fresh, you know, cut passion fruit. They had jars of passion fruit puree that they would keep, like, at the bar. And they would make, like, martinis with it and mojitos and, like, any kind of drink that you want. They would put passion fruit in it. And it was so yummy. Yeah. So, I mean, there were lots of drinks there that you couldn't get the same quality in Mexico. But, you know, a lot of it was lacking.
The bartenders did a good job with what they had it wasn't the bartenders no no they had a great attitude and they were having fun um and they they did a lot of banter back and forth with the playmakers and you know what the playmakers never gave up and sometimes there weren't that many people in the pool they always got people to get involved right and they didn't do it in more of a pushy way they would come over and flirt with you and put their arms around you and they would never give up until and then once one or two people would go up there then other people would start to come up yeah where i think in the past if you're not really good at that you can get frustrated because uh well why are we even doing this if nobody wants to come up and do these games yeah no they were just they they had just the right attitude but the games were a little bit different because you can't do the naked games there yeah true but they were it was very similar and one more thing we need to talk about the food the breakfast was amazing breakfast was so good their bacon is better yeah than mexico i mean their bacon was like really good for the U.S.
Yeah. So, yeah, bacon was amazing. Omelet chefs were like all over it. Oh, so much better. So much faster. Oh, fast omelets and really, really good. Yeah. And I thought lunch was good, too. They had a pasta bar every day.
And they also had a grill and they would do like fresh burgers for you and everything um the dinners the restaurants are pretty much the same as pearl and rm there's a suki restaurant um and like rm the suki restaurant has a hibachi table two yeah two hibachi tables um but then they also have the same suki menu that you know you can order from which is nice um and then they have a solo restaurant which those of you that haven't been to rm it's pretty much the same as the pearl restaurant um the menus were the same but the quality of the food wasn't the same so i don't know if it's just um like you know having the right distributors that they can't get the same quality of certain types of ingredients in the dominican republic or if the yeah if the chefs just aren't trained the same way i don't know yeah well when we ate at romanza that was good that that was the italian place over at temptation but they the The place was bad yeah but honestly i don't really had they only had one steak on the menu it was a steakhouse yeah that was straight and then they tricked me because i thought i was going to get one of these quarter inch thick steaks like you get in mexico and when they served it it was like three quarters of an inch and i said oh a nice steak until i cut into it and i realized they had kind of just wrapped they had folded it over on itself i know and then it wasn't you know when you have a steak that thin you it's hard to cook it medium yeah it just gets too done so i was disappointed with that um well you know when we were driving up to Miche's we we drove by some farmland and there was we saw a lot of cattle and they were those dudes were skinny like you could see their ribs so i mean just driving up there you kind of had to set the expectation accordingly they're not importing the beef let's just say it that way um they do have a late night pizza oven, but the pizza crust, it's like that pizza crust that you buy in a plastic bag that's hanging in the grocery store.
Yeah. It's thick and it doesn't get crisp. No. But we still ate it at two in the morning. We ate it at two in the morning and the french fries were good. Yeah. At two in the morning. Yeah.
And I think they had ice ice cream like they had quite a few snacks in there the coffee shop was excellent yes yeah and they had pastries in there in the morning and little sandwiches but i went in there every day to get coffee the coffee was really good even because i got black coffee i mean it was local coffee i know yeah i know so that i'm glad you remembered about the food skipped right over that yeah wow see i come in handy you earned we would have had not just a pretty face we would have had to record the whole podcast over again no i would have said too bad well like we say we're not going down there for the food but it could it could the dinners could improve they could but i never got sick i they had plenty of protein, like it was fine.
Yeah. And you could get a reservation. So that made it nicer. Yep. Okay. Now overall experience. I loved it. Yeah. And I'm, I'm the kind of person that whenever I go someplace for the first time, whether it's a restaurant here in town or when we go to a hotel somewhere when we're traveling, I never like it when I first walk in because it's different and I'm looking around and figuring it out and it's a restaurant and I don't know what to order and I don't know where the restroom is and I don't know this and that stresses me out.
i went there just expecting to like spend the week trying to figure things out and you know and making peace with it right right and i walked in and fell in love with it yeah which is weird because pearl is my place yeah you know so it's just it's very efficiently laid out it's beautiful you know the the beach mean, what can I say? The beach is just amazing. And our experience with Premier was much better at Dominican Republic than it was at Cancun last time. Yes, yes. We do have to say we, we had a good experience this time. So we will be, well, our big event's going to be next month.
And so after that, we'll, we'll come back and tell you what we have planned in the future, how often we're going to go back there. Yeah. But I was pleasantly surprised. And again, the negatives, I would say just in a nutshell, communication's an issue. The room materials were a little bit substandard. Food wasn't as good as it could have been. Um, and the drinks, you know, weren't, weren't a high quality like they could have been. Um, I don't really think the clothing optional thing I would put in a negative column. It's just a different vibe. Right. And you can be naked.
Like, like we said that that upstairs area opens at 11 o'clock and you can go up there. Right. And, um, and make it what you want it to be. Yeah.
I mean, I, I'll still like Pearl probably better because that's our place, but won't we will go back oh absolutely the grammy chase absolutely okay well there you have it all that waiting we'll probably have more stories for you hopefully things get better and the things that we complained about a little bit will be better in june yeah and you know nothing was a deal breaker no i think they have nowhere to go but up at this point yep looking forward to it all right do you have any snapshots maybe okay well i'll we'll take a little potty break and then come back you got you got a few minutes to think of a snapshot we'll be right back all right welcome back to snapshots you go first okay well i'll stick with the whole grand mitches theme okay the last night we were there it rained like it rained buckets but they have it like they plan for that because obviously if you're in the tropics it's gonna rain um they have even though the the plaza where they do the shows at night and like where the lobby is it's kind of it's all open it's a lot of it's covered and it's not just like little narrow walkways that are covered like big chunks of it are covered so unfortunately though the hot tub is not covered so we couldn't go to the hot tub after all the music and everything um so i had brought a game that you were not very thrilled about playing.
I was pachoochee. Yeah. I've heard that about you. Yeah, I've never heard that word before, but evidently it means I had an attitude. Yeah. Yeah, I should have learned that word about 39 years ago. Well, that's where the dumb card game came from because I just don't like, I'm not a games person. So I may have had a little attitude at first and I got called out. Okay. Now, it was raining. We couldn't go to the hot tub. Thank you. I just don't like, I'm not a games person, so I may have had a little attitude at first and I got called out. Okay. Now, it was raining. We couldn't go to the hot tub.
Like, I had this game, so I went and got it, even though you were, like, all pouty about it. It's called, what's it called? Sip, Strip, or Smooch. Right.
And it's basically Cards Against Humanity, only, I guess, is it raunchierier i don't know how you could be raunchier than cards against humanity well i guess it's like action cards yeah so yeah so whoever was like they called the person the virgin the one who like collected the cards and and got to pick the one um that person would have to whoever like one would have to do an action with the virgin and um my snapshot is you and one of our girlfriends who is like the funniest person i've ever met in person she's funny you two had to change switch underwear and the funny part is that she didn't have any underwear on and she had a cat suit on it was like a like like uh latex and leather night or something like that lace or something but she had like a a leather cat suit on so we decided that she obviously couldn't take that off to switch underwear with you but you took your underwear off and she put it on over top of her catsuit and it was so funny fortunately i wore some colorful underwear that night yeah it wasn't like a boring black or no you had happening underwear on they look they look good on top of her catsuit yeah yeah and that was the other cards were um i think i got one with another guy and he was supposed to do a body shot off of me yeah that that was kind of like a a moment so i decided we were all like how are they gonna like navigate this one so i decided to use the back of my hand the only thing he had to do was put up with a little bit of hair on the back of my hand.
We had all ordered lemon drop shots because we knew that drinking was part of this game. So yeah, so he licked a little bit of lemon drop off your hand. It was sexy.
And there was another card that I think somebody had to lick like you did it didn't you you had to lick a dirty word on the back of somebody's somebody licked the back of my neck oh is that what it was yeah they had to write a suggestive word with their tongue on the back of my neck yeah that was fun yeah you had some serious cold chills going on i know i couldn't get it so i kept telling her to do it again i didn't know if she's writing in cursive or block i i didn't know no that was a fun night that was a good way to uh kill some time in the rain yeah i think there were about eight of us weren't there eight or ten of us playing that game i think there were at least yeah at least ten of us i have fun i have to admit it was fun as pachoochee as i was whatever that means at the beginning of the game no it's fun because we were just we were with good friends and we were just like chilling and relaxing and it was great well my snapshot's actually sexy oh yeah we were with friends not too long ago and um we had played with them before and we're really good friends and you know i have to have these conversations with ladies now to say what i'm capable of doing and incapable of doing and she's a she's um a good friend so we're able to talk about these things and well they've been through this whole journey with us.
Yeah. Yeah. So I did have my shot. So I was semi functional. And I think at first she went down on me for a while and then I went down on her.
And then because of the state that I was in, I really didn't want to put a condomom on i did for a little while but then it just wasn't working so i took the condom off so she was laying on top of me and her she had her legs kind of together on top of my legs and my cock was between her thighs and i think what happened was her she was so wet down there that we didn't really need any lube like her the inside of her thighs were were wet yeah and so i was able to she like thought thigh gasmed me and i know you've had thigh gasms before yes but this was this was different because i was just kind of pumping up straight up between her thighs and um i'm glad she didn't stop i don't think i would have let her stop i think i had clamped onto her butt about hard enough that she knew that i wasn't gonna let her stop until i was finished but i had never experienced that position before so it was a new one for me yeah It was a lot of fun.
We'll have to put that on our list. Yeah, definitely. All right. So hopefully I'm going to wake up tomorrow morning and I'm going to put this card in the computer and I'm going to go to our editing software and I'm going to hear sounds that actually sound good and I'm going to get this edited and out. We missed you guys. We'll try not to do that again. We already have an idea for next month and the next couple of months and we're going to have some guests back on shortly.
