Most people have unprotected oral sex, right? Be honest. Now think about your last STD test. Did your doctor tickle your throat with something that looked like a giant Q-tip? Probably not.
Yet that's the only way to check for oral gonorrhea or chlamydia which are often asymptomatic you need a better doctor you need shamelesscare.com use coupon code tsn at checkout hey there pineapple people and welcome to the swing nation podcast we are your hosts northern guy and southern girl and today we have dr store back in our studio digitally yeah unfortunately uh and we're going to talk about how to stay healthy in the swingers lifestyle and not we're not talking to stds if you're curious aboutDs and STIs we've done multiple episodes on that we had a whole discussion about herpes and we have a lot of podcasts we had episodes on just STDs and STIs in general uh we've covered a lot of that so we might touch on some of that but this is more um I think this is more like personal advice that we need from Dr.
Soar for me how did I get swinger I get swinger flu? That's our joke. Did you know that? Like all of our friends call, like when we get sick from being at an event, we all call it a swinger flu. Not sure what it is. Well, I think what it is is when you go to a party and there's 500 people there and Lacey makes out with, well, at least 20 of those people. Yeah, I do that. You tend to get sick.
And so what we're wondering is, since you've, you know, gone to and all that are there ways we can stop that from happening i love that the gynecologist is talking about how to avoid getting an upper respiratory infection i'm like well i can tell you how not to get gonorrhea in your throat um that's important too we need a little bit of that as well it's definitely important but yeah no it's it's actually not uncommon to get sick when you're around large groups of people period that's why a lot of times when you go and visit family come back everybody comes back with a cold or every bliss cruise i always come back sick it's it just is what it is so yeah yeah there's definitely some things you can do to kind of help avoid getting sick when you go into large crowds of people especially when there's nakedness and fluid swapping okay what.
Where do we start? Is there like a magic pill that I can take and I'll go and then I'll never get sick? Some people take, like we've heard of vitamin C. Some people like try not to kiss people. We even had a friend just this last weekend. We were sitting there and they say that before an event, they take Doxy. Like she doesn't take as much as he does because, you know, like he doesn't have a vagina that could throw off the pH. Thank you very much.
that before an event they take doxy like she doesn't take as much as he does because you know like he doesn't have a vagina that could throw off the ph but she'll said you know like she'll take one on saturday and and then he'll take like one all weekend and they've been doing that for a year and they haven't gotten sick so i'm like should we be doing that is that real or is that like i don't know like are they just lucky i don't know so yeah doxy doxycycline actually is not typically used for upper respiratory infections so they're probably just getting luckier um with that doxy is typically used in the lifestyle specifically to avoid gonorrhea chlamydia and syphilis um it's not 100 but it's actually it's pretty good um can be taken up to 24 hours to 72 hours after any potential exposure and you can take it daily.
I will tell you though, doxy taken daily does cause tummy upset. So if you don't want to have diarrhea, I wouldn't take it that often. Um, it can cause a lot of like nausea as well in some patients, but it's about like 88% ish good for gonorrhea, 87, I think for syphilis and somewhere on like 40% for chlamydia. Um. Not as good for chlamydia, but it definitely reduces your chances, especially if you're going to be in a group of people playing bareback, i.e. without condoms, and you're not really sure if people have been tested.
There are some parties where people provide their testing in advance and you can be a little bit more sure that you're doing okay.
But doxy, for the purpose of avoiding upper respiratory infections respiratory infections i don't know if there's any data on that i would be surprised if there was because it's not a typical antibiotic used for that purpose yeah okay so maybe it's just like a placebo effect right that's what i was wanting this is i guess this is why we have dr soar here right is the like what is the real so okay when we go to a party and we dance we make out with people and we end up sex with people, and we come back and we end up with some kind of cold, what is that? What do we have?
What are we likely encountering? It's almost always a rhinovirus. Rhinoviruses are what typically causes upper respiratory infections, like just the common cold. It's typically a rhinovirus. And most of the time, those are fairly fleeting. They are usually caused by a virus and not bacteria. So taking antibiotics doesn't typically help. They're self-limited, usually seven to 10 days or so if you're unlucky up to 14. And having, yeah, typical upper respiratory symptoms, sore throat, runny nose, post-nasal drip, cough, yeah, like mild fevers at worst. We both have those right now.
And that is been about eight days to have after a big event yeah like you said like a bliss cruise even like sure secrets and it makes sense because you're around a bunch of people you're kissing a bunch of people you know you're swapping bodily fluids you're also not sleeping you're also like probably not eating well you're not taking care of yourself like i don't know medically if any of that affects that but like to me if i don't take care of myself then i'm immediately going to get sick that's actually one of the things i was going to talk about a lot of the times the reason that we get sick is because we don't take care of ourselves at these events um yeah absolutely uh your body's going to be more susceptible to viruses when you have not slept well and um typically at most of the swingers events nobody sleeps well if they do it's during the day and not at night when you're supposed to.
And offsetting just your normal clock, your normal sleeping clock can be really disruptive for your abilities, your immune system's ability to fight off stuff. So yeah, definitely not sleeping well and not eating healthy. We know that gut microbiome is really important in protecting against viruses. And your gut microbiome is very reliant on your diet. So when you're eating a lot of fast food, fatty foods, stuff that's like typically not healthy junk food, lots of sugar, you're going to upset your microflora and that's going to increase your risk for viruses as well. Waffle house at 3 a.m.
That's not good for your microbiome? No, no. In fact, that may kill your microbiome for weeks. I think walking into a Waffle House is dangerous. We did that twice. As much as actually eating anything there. We just got home and we did that twice in this last one. It might not be good for my microbiome, but it's really good for my stomach and my heart. I don't know about that heart.
It is emotionally good for your heart, but your heart yeah that's what i meant i meant emotionally good well this is like a side note there is nothing better than waffle house at three o'clock it's really good it's really good i don't know what's in that food i probably don't want to know yeah but 3 a.m waffle house butter grease and toenails i mean like i don't even know it's disgusting so like to follow up on that so i take i'm do really well with routine and we have been like we just went to an event last week but before that we had been home for like 45 days which is a long time for us probably the longest we've been home in like two years and i really did a good job of like developing a routine like washing my face every night taking my medicine taking my probiotic taking every like my heartburn for all of the things and like that just sets me up for like a good day the next day and I can remember going in to tempted we just got back I was like okay every night I don't care how tired you are you're gonna wash your face and you're gonna take your medicine so you don't have heartburn you're gonna do all you take your addy so you're not you know like crazy the next day you do all the things and it never fails i get to an event i get drunk and like i totally forget about all the things and then like i say heartburn because that's what happened like i forget where we had lunch like on saturday and then i had fireball the night before so i was dying i was like I feel horrible.
And so I've got to do better about that at events. Like that's really 2025. Our schedule is insane. And we just are going to be traveling like once, twice a month. And I've got to do better about like, because that helps my overall health. So make sure I do that. It's going to help your health while you're there and also when you get back. And if you feel better overall, you'll feel better at the events. One of the things that I've gotten out of the habit of doing is drinking too much at the parties. You guys don't know this about me. I'm going to surprise this to everybody.
I'm actually an introvert. I'm a social one, but my social battery is about two hours long. And so after about two hours, I stopped liking people, including myself. I just want to cloister. And so if I'm trying to people more than two Thank you. two hours long. And so after about two hours, I stopped liking people, including myself. I just want to cloister. And so if I'm trying to people more than two hours, I drink to try and make myself social for longer. And the more I drink, the crappier I feel. And I do the same thing. I go home. I forget to take my medications. I don't wash my face.
And then I wind up the next day getting up feeling absolutely horrible. So I actually kind of had a come to Jesus moment with myself. I was like, look, it is not more important to social for longer than it is for me to feel good the next day. And so now when I kind of get to the end of my social battery, a lot of my friends kind of know they're like, yeah, Angie usually leaves the parties earlier. I always leave before my husband does.
He can social all night long and he's good to go um but yeah when my social battery starts running out i just start saying my goodbyes and i i've kind of limited myself to one to two drinks at most of the parties occasionally i have a shot or two but um and it i have felt just in general a lot better and i haven't gotten sick near as often yeah that's a good point dan and i have kind of done that through 2024 except for last weekend except for last week because it had been 45 days so the problem with us is we do so many events it's hard for us before we would get trashed we wouldn't do our medicine we wouldn't eat right and then for the next week we would be like on the couch doing nothing like we were like worthless and so we would be you know we'd have the sniffles and sick so we really cut down on our drinking for that reason so that way we can like bounce back quicker you can't survive like if you do this just for fun every once in a while sure go out party get drunk have a good time yeah you're just just for a living like you're gonna die if you try to keep up that pace and partying like that like no human body can survive that yeah so i think we definitely hit that point where like we can still have fun but not go a lot of people like maybe they're not doing this for a living but they have to go to work on monday so they can't go you know sunday's not enough to recover and recruit they need you know to to take it easy somewhat so they can you know be active and i don't know a lot of people need alcohol as kind of like their lubricant to get into the mood or to get themselves to calm down enough to be able to start interacting with people in a sexual way.
So, you know, I wouldn't say like, don't ever drink. It's bad for you. I mean, we know the alcohol is not great in large quantities in moderation here and there. It's not really that dangerous unless you have a liver issue.
So, you know, use it for your social lubricant, but don't overdo it so that you don't wind up feeling sick the next day yeah okay all right so what if i'm hearing you what you're saying is these these what we're encountering that's making us feel sick at these lifestyle parties and events is some kind of likely viral um upper respiratory infection most of the time and we're saying, you know, being healthy, eating healthy can help with that. Are there any other things we've talked a little bit about microbiomes? So is it, you know, absolutely.
So eating healthy, eating the healthy is a part of the microbiome. Taking probiotics is never a bad idea. Um, Lacey brought that up a minute ago, taking a good probiotic can be really helpful to kind of your overall GI health. We don't have a lot of data specifically on risk for upper respiratory infection associated with probiotic use, but we've got lots of data on knowing that the microbiome is associated with increased risk for stuff like having upper respiratory infections and whatnot.
So I don't have any data to say that probiotics fix that, but there's kind of a correlation there at least. So taking a daily probiotic is never a bad idea. If you're going to take a probiotic though, you need to also be taking either prebiotics or eating prebiotics because that's what feeds the probiotics.
And again, there's a lot of different things that can be associated as a, like a prebiotic, which feeds your probiotics, things like cabbage um pretty much anything that's fermented so like pickles um fermented vegetables that kind of stuff if you like it kombucha so those things can be helpful sounds like lacy needs to find another prebiotic pill because she's not she's not eating any of that stuff so this is a little but i've never i don't think i've ever heard the word prebiotic probiotic seems like it is like The trending thing Of the last like It is especially like Six months, a year And I know There's a lot of I know there the last like it is especially six months a year and i know there's lots of studies where people are you know we're starting to understand the microbiome more and and so that's kind of feeding a lot of this stuff and you know you're you're a doctor so it sounds like this isn't just make-believe stuff that this is actually real studied science absolutely solid but i do not take a prebiotic just a probiotic yes so there's there's a lot of stuff i do not eat cabbage or anything fermented yeah so so you're not feeding your microbes okay so basically what the microbiome is is it's all of the it's not just in your gut there's actually more living organisms in and on your human body than there are human cells in your body so billions and there's multiple different strains of them of them.
There's viruses, there's protozoa, there's bacteria. A lot of what's in the gut is viruses and bacteria. And they do a lot of important things for us. They help create the lining of our gut to prevent the byproducts of what we eat from getting into our immune system. About 70% of your immune system is actually in the lining of your intestines, which makes sense because a lot of what you get exposed to in the form of foreign objects goes in through your mouth as food.
The rest of it kind of comes in through your nose, which is why your lung is where a lot of the rest of the immune system is like housed. So like your gut has about 70% of your immune system and your microbiome is responsible for kind of creating the lining so that your food doesn't leak through and cause your immune system to react. It also helps us digest our food. A lot of the food that we eat is not well digested by us as humans. And so our microbiome digests it for us. They also, and this is maybe going to blow your minds.
They actually secrete hormones that do everything from change our mood to like depression symptoms and whatnot. If your microbiome is off, significantly increased risk for depression and anxiety. So having a healthy microbiome reduces those types of symptoms as well. But it also does stuff like help regulate your hormone levels because your microbiome helps like get rid of extra estrogen and estrogen byproducts and whatnot. So there's a lot of stuff going on with the microbiome. Probiotics are not meant to replace your microbiome.
They're meant to be a placeholder until you can create your own healthy microbiome. So in order to do that, you need to eat healthy foods and you need to feed the microbes as they grow. And that's what prebiotics are. Prebiotics feed the microbes in your gut. All right. So I gathered a few things from that.
i think what you said is there are more little bugs living on us and inside of us than there are actual human cells that is correct is that what you just said so we are more made up of little tiny bugs i don't know if that's the right word that's what i think of when i think of like that you know bacteria and bacteria and all that. It's little bugs that live on you, right? Yeah. So there's more little bugs living on us than there actually is human cells living on us. That's correct. That is crazy. That is crazy. My mouth is like.
And then, too, you said that these bugs, depending on them and what they poop out or whatever, determines if we're depressed or like so many so many things about our human body uh-huh that is nuts yeah they actually activate and deactivate receptors our microbiome um is responsible for helping our gut communicate with our brain okay let's what what is a probiotic like a probiotic what what is that you're saying it doesn't replace the the- I feel like this podcast is like went down a strange- Well, it's interesting. I mean, this is talking about like your overall health of your body though.
If your microbiome's in good shape, you're less likely to get sick, yeah. So I always thought probiotics were feeding the bug food, but you're saying they're actual bugs? The probiotics are the bugs, yeah. So there's multiple different strains that are in probiotics. What is this face? Yeah, you're actually taking live bacteria and viruses and protozoa, usually bacteria, in the form of a pill. So like lactobacillus, that is a bacilli. Bacilli are bacterium. So lactobacillus is one of the most common ones that's in a lot of the probiotics.
I'm looking it up what i'm taking a lot of different strains that are included in probiotics usually the more expensive the probiotic the more likely it is to be good i know that sounds kind of weird but a lot of probiotics are not shelf stable they need to be refrigerated not all of them but a lot of them i've taken some of those before because they're little creatures yeah i've taken the refrigerated ones before because like for uti like for that like health the ones i take now are equilibrium um they're 40 a bottle they're not cheap i don't know if that's expensive none of them are really cheap and it depends on what you're taking it for so for instance the microbiome in your gut and the microbiome in your bladder are two very different things um they share some of the same bugs but not necessarily all of them and the microbiome like in your gut and the microbiome in your bladder are two very different things.
They share some of the same bugs, but not necessarily all of them. And the microbiome like in your lungs and in your upper respiratory tract, like your nose and your mouth and whatnot are different from the ones that are like in your rectum. So the stuff that you want in your gut, we know there's a handful of them that are particularly helpful. Lactobacillus is one of them. Bifidobacterium brevim and longum are both important ones for the gut. And you're wanting to avoid stuff that tends to be more Yeah is C. difficile.
It's another like bacteria it's an interloper you'll find it in the gut but you shouldn't find it in high enough volumes to cause symptoms so when you have good gut bacteria floating around you prevent bad gut bacteria from from being overwhelming does that make sense right yeah and so a probiotic is you're ingesting the good bugs. The good bugs. Yes. And trying to plant them in your body so that they thrive and your body's healthy because you have good bugs in you. Yep. And I will tell you that the intent is for them to be placed there. Like I said, they're kind of placeholders.
They sort of help create the environment in which the natural bugs will flourish. So if you're putting in bifidobacterium longum and brevum into your system with some lactobacillus, it may or may not actually set up and grow, but it will help create the environment where your natural bifidobacterium can grow on its own. Okay. And then the prebiotic is the bug food. It's bug food. Yeah. That's the bug food that you're taking to feed the bugs so that they can flourish in your body. Exactly. And prebiotics are more important if you're having trouble eating a healthy diet on your own.
A lot of us don't eat a lot of super healthy foods, especially in the United States. So lots of fruits, lots of veggies and stuff that tends to be fermented, like stuff like sauerkraut, love sauerkraut, love pickles.
Anything that's fermented is going to be a prebiotic um kombucha have you tried kombucha lacy do you like okay i don't even know what that is i'm not gonna lie it's a fermented drink it's kind of um no i'm not eating anything fermented i'm gonna be honest with you maybe worth a try sometime just to see they've got lots of different kinds of of i know i know i have calm i have confidence in myself lacy has the palette of like a chicken fingers a 10 year old child do you remember we went to dinner together i remember yeah if lacy did i have chicken nuggets it was a nice restaurant too right right so if you were wondering if lacy would like something think would my 10 year old child like this and if the answer is no then lacy would not her 10, think, would my 10-year-old child like this?
And if the answer is no, then Lacey would not. Her 10-year-old child probably eats better. My 10-year-old eats stuff like sushi and craves salads out of the garden. My kids are weird. No, that's not weird. That's good. But if I'm hearing you, what you're saying is there's a pill. Yes, you can take prebiotics in the pill as well. A vitamin that you can take that has this stuff that feeds the bug. Yes.
And so what you're're taking a probiotic you're putting the bugs in you but if you're not feeding them they're just not i don't know what else to say they're bugs they'll die yep so taking a prebiotic and a probiotic together especially if you can't make yourself eat a decently healthy diet could be helpful um there are ways to get in fruits and veggies that are a little bit sneaky like there there's a company that makes fruit and vegetable like gummies. I've seen our pharmacy has the fruits and vegetable capsules. Yeah, there's vegetable capsules, fruit capsules, those.
I mean, obviously we would love for you to eat it as an actual whole food. Main reason for that is you absorb better the nutrients from it when it's got everything in the food.
So for instance, eating an apple is better than eating all the components of the apple separately in pill form because your body gets all of it together in the same time you tend to absorb the nutrients better because of the fiber that's in the apples etc so um but yeah there's like i think they're called smart food gummies they actually put the entire fruits and vegetables into them and they they kind of taste like gummy bears wow that's pretty cool i'm gonna write that down yeah i think it's what i'm hearing i haven't looked that up in a little while i could be no that's fine lacy's spending 40 a month on probiotics and then they're just dying okay but here's the hold on hold on so susan do you remember susan that was on our podcast she actually recommended this probiotic to me um and sent me the link and I've literally been on it for about six months or more.
Have you noticed a difference? I don't know what I'm supposed to notice. I've just been taking them. But, you know, I always thought probiotics were good mainly for, I know their gut health, but like for yeast infections. That's the vaginal microbiome.
while y'all are talking about bugs and shit i was over here googling and to see like because i want to see the brand that i use to see like what else they carried and then like first thing that popped up was like a diet like a health like a food one so i guess that's my next question so because a lot of like websites like wist and hers and all of these are like really really focusing in on probiotics for females when it comes to like vaginal health and i know this podcast is about like overall health as far as staying healthy and lots of it that vagina being healthy is also very very important so is that just like a marketing thing should we be taking probiotics for our vagina legit too.
So your vagina has a microbiome as well. And the female microbiome in the vagina can be very, very pH sensitive. And pH changes over time, both just with age. It changes with your period. It changes whether you're breastfeeding or not breastfeeding. It changes really around the time of perimenopause. And it also changes around exposure to things like semen and condoms. So the pH in the vagina is very sensitive. It's one of the reasons I love stuff like boric acid, because it's the same pH as the vagina and using it kind of helps reset.
But yeah, the microbiome in the vagina is actually really quite important. And yes, probiotics do help with that. There's a handful of studies on that. There's only one that I know off the top of my head, one probiotic that's been studied specifically for the vagina, and it's from a company called Metagenics, and it's Ultrafluoro Women's. But I'm sure there's probably some studies out there that I've missed on other probiotics that are specifically geared towards the vagina. All right. But if these things are $40 a bottle, there's probably not many people that are going to take several.
So if you're just looking for – if you're looking to take probiotics for your overall health, is there like a certain one to look for, certain types of – Well, you need a pro and a pre. Yeah, you need a pro and a pre. And you can get those together. Not uncommon to be able to find a pre and a probiotic like in a capsule together. I was just looking really quick to see what's all in the ultrafluoro women's off the top of my head. I can't remember because if I remember correctly, that one has several of the good gut microbes as well.
I'm going to bring it up really quick and just double check and see what's in it. And I really started taking it so that way, like I could help like kind of prevent UTIs and yeast infections, like before they even start. That was sort of when I thought of taking a probiotic. That's kind of what I thought I was doing. Maybe I wasn't. I don't know. I was just doing, you know, they tell you to do it, you do it. I don't know. I faithfully took what I thought I was supposed to do. Well, I guess that was the question I had. Yeah, me too.
Is there, like, one that's overall that would be good for kind of everything? Yeah. I was just looking up the ultra flora women's probiotic and it actually has several of the good gut ones too. It has lactobacillus, several different lactobacillus, including root or I, which is one of the good ones. And it's also got bifidobacterium in it. So, um, I mean, that one probably is fairly good for overall for vagina and for gut. Um, it does say women's on it. So dudes might be weirded out by it.
What was the name of by it again it's a company they'll send it to you on ice to your door um like three months at a time and basically kind of like auto renew sort of thing keep it in your refrigerator until you're ready to take it and then the bottle as long as you keep it in an area that doesn't have too much light can stay out of the refrigerator for about a month so it's called ultra for ultra flora women's by metagenics yeah okay so that's actually what i take um and you know i use it more for my vagina health than anything but um it works for gut health too yeah and i've like i've like you said i've taken the over the refrigerated ones my pharmacy actually has a little refrigerator in there behind their thing and you just have to ask them and they'll they'll get it for you okay so is there a prebiotic for that one that you just talked about that one doesn't have prebiotics in it no um and i don't know that there's any like awesome studies on any specific prebiotics especially not for like yeast infections and that sort of stuff but prebiotics are actually pretty easy to get over the counter um there's lots of different brands for it.
The companies that I typically recommend for like supplements, there's a couple of different companies that I recommend for supplements. Metagenics is one of them, Thorne, it's T-H-O-R-N-E and Pure Encapsulations. Those companies are pretty well regulated. The only reason I bring that up is because supplements aren't technically regulated by the FDA at all. So it doesn't mean that the places where they're made aren't FDA like certified and whatnot.
Like the companies have to have their equipment certified and everything, but what's actually inside the probiotic or prebiotic isn't like FDA approved. It's not like if you're taking aspirin, you know exactly how much aspirin is in that aspirin because it's been approved by the FDA. If it's a supplement and it's considered a supplement, then they will tell you even on the labeling, if you look at the small print, this has not been evaluated by the FDA, we can't prove or deny the claims related to it.
So, you know, they can say that this populates the gut, but then they have to put that qualifier on it, you know. So those particular companies have really good outside resource. So for instance, Pure Encapsulations, I believe is owned by Nestle. And so Nestle does all of the supervision of the Peer Encapsulations. And they're a pretty big company that doesn't want to lose their reputation. Thorne is notoriously strict, like notoriously strict with their stuff.
So they're maybe a little bit more expensive, kind of on par with Peer Encapsulations, but you will not get a bad anything from Thorne as far as my experience goes. They're also the companies that tend to be recommended and or encouraged by the international or by the functional medicine societies. Most of them encourage those particular companies just because they have a lot of outside regulation. So Metagenics, Thorne, and pure encapsulations typically have pretty good stuff. So if you get a pre-year probiotic from one of those three, you're going to get good. Awesome. All right.
So I think we crushed the microbiomes and the pre and the pro biotics, and that is a way to stay healthy prior to events. I think now we take a little break. We hear from the partners and sponsors of the Swing Nation podcast. And then when we get back, I think we'll talk a little bit more about some other things you can do to stay healthy and avoid these upper respiratory infections. And then I actually, I mean, unless you talked about this a little bit before we joined this call, you just got back from a bliss cruise. Yeah. Did you not? We did. And we had a blast.
We got to get, I think we'll get some highlights from you at the end. Oh, I've got some good stories from this one. Okay. All right. So stay tuned for after the break for that. We'll be right back. Yeah, so the STD testing is super awesome. You basically fill out a survey, and they tell you how often you should be tested. And then you receive the test at home. You're able to take it from the comfort of your home, mail it back in, and you get your results a few days later. Yeah, and then knowing those results is a huge deal. But you can also do ED medication, right? You know, having ED in the lifestyle is super common, right? Because you're in a high stress environment and, uh, you know, trying to maintain your erection in that environment can be difficult.
So you go online, you take a little survey, you fill out some healthcare information, um, and they, they ship you the medicine right to your door. You don't have to have the conversation with your doctor. You can do it all from home. Yes, so use our code TSN on shamelesscare.com to receive $30 off. We use it. We suggest you use it. If you need that service, go out there and get it. Thank you. All right, guys. Welcome back. Welcome back. Thanks for listening to our sponsors. We love our sponsors. We do. Okay. Before the break, we left off. We had deep dived.
I don't know if that was really a deep dive, but we got into the microbiome. That was actually pretty cool to learn about that. It was dumb a like it was dumbed down i feel like for us right yeah you did a good job you got bugs inside you don't stop with the bugs those bugs keep you healthy we get it you gotta feed the bugs you got it simple you're so weird okay that's not weird no more bug talk okay i love what they are literally what they are yeah well then y'all can hang out together and talk I think that's the plan.
At some point we're going to hang out with each other and then we're going to talk about bugs. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. We're going to, no, never mind. I was going to say we're going to share bugs. Oh God. That's gross. No. I would love to share bugs at any time, my dear. I think that's what technically is happening. Oh my God. Y'all are weird. Just saying that. Okay.
All saying that okay all right so we've determined that most of the time when you get sick after a lifestyle event it's some type of uh upper respiratory infection a lot of them are viral we've talked about how improving your microbiome um can help build your immuno defense i don't even know if i said that that were,. Those are real words, but your immune defense to that stuff. Um, are, is there any other thing that you would recommend to our listeners to up their defense from these viral infections? For sure. Um, any type of antioxidant is going to help.
So stuff like vitamin C does actually have some legit, um, data on reducing infection risk. Echinacea can help and ashwagandha. Ashwagandha reduces cortisol levels. And when your cortisol is up, you tend to not fight off bacteria as well. So vitamin C, echinacea and ashwagandha can help. And lots of water. Most of us do not hydrate well. And in the lifestyle, when you are kissing a lot and having a lot of sex, you tend to get dehydrated and not drinking enough water can be really harmful for that too. Okay. I know what vitamin C is. What were those other two things you said? Thank you.
having a lot of sex, you tend to get dehydrated and not drinking enough water can be really harmful for that too. Okay. I know what vitamin C is. What were those other two things you said? Echinacea. Those did not sound like English words. I just pretended like I knew it. You didn't know either. You got to ask these questions if you don't know what she's saying. Okay. Vitamin C in what? Echinacea. Echinacea. What the hell is that?
I believe it comes from a flower flower if i'm not mistaken um it is an anti-inflammatory that tends to help patients or people fight off bacteria it's a pill it's a drink it's a how do you where do you get it how do you i take it oh you take a pill form do you buy this at walmart cbs it's an herbal dietary supplement that supports your natural defense systems to reduce cold symptoms. They have echinacea through thorn. That's what I'm pulling this up from. Okay. Yeah. Yeah.
So if we're going to take something prior to going to a swinger event, echinacea is probably a smart thing to take, not doxy, at least if we're worried about viral infections. Correct. And echinacea is a flower. I thought so. I had it had it in my garden last year i should have known that you can actually grow echinacea and then use it to make your own like teas but yeah i had a form of teas or pills either way what okay you're stupid okay so it's a it's a supplement that's a flower that you take and it helps boost your immune system system. What is the other word that you said?
And then the third word? The third one was ashwagandha. That's not a real word. It is. Ashwagandha is a shrub that is grown in Asia and Africa. It sounds like a word they say on the Lion King. It's technically something called an adaptogen. So it helps your body reduce the amount of cortisol levels that you have.
So it helps with stuff stress um and it's very easy to get you can get it in the form of like teas you can get it in pills um it's an african shrub it's a shrub from asia and africa yeah so it was on the line king i nailed it yep okay and this is another supplement it's another supplement yeah and you can usually get supplements that have like multiple things in then like you get vitamin c and echinacea together because it's commonly used to help fight off colds okay so this is the type of thing that you should be taking before an event is that daily or can you take it right before how is that as dan coughs you can probably do it for about a week or so before you go to an event and then for another like five to seven days afterwards so around the time of an event probably is sufficient okay a week before the event we're getting on usha nusha echinacea and vitamin c ashwagandha you were close fuck we're gonna take all those things it's okay dan i'll text it to you no worries yeah yeah golly that's cool though yeah all right so we should be taking that vitamin c and drinking plenty of water lots of water there's no no human nobody does except for those people that like run marathons are super healthy um but how much water are you supposed to drink in a day no we learned this i learned this not long ago because i'm taking care of my dad how much water you take your body weight and divide it in half and that's how much water you should have have.
In ounces? Yeah. Is that right, Dr. Short? Okay. So there's actually some fairly recent data out that there's not any good proof to that particular thing. You used to say eight ounces. His doctor lied to you. Yeah, eight ounces of water a day, so like 64 ounces of water a day. But doing half of your body weight in pounds, not kilograms for anybody who's listening from other countries, half of your body weight in pounds is kind of what we've used as sort of like, yeah, this is probably sufficient for most people.
But that doesn't necessarily, it's not necessarily enough for some and it's too much for others. So if you're somebody who sweats a lot, you probably need more than that. If you tend to do a lot of exercise, you need more than that.
If you're not sweating as much, you know, you justisten a little bit you probably don't need quite as much water i just glisten yeah right i always thought not sweating meant you need to drink more water though no no you should be sweating sweating is actually good for you yeah if you're not sweating that's actually typically a problem so if you like exercise and you don't sweat or you go into a sauna and you don't sweat you need to see your doctor that's not good what are you shaking your head at me because you're being ridiculous i was gonna say i know i like working up a sweat that's good i see you and i saw the guy i saw those wheels turning i know sorry this is we've lost we've lost all control of this podcast okay i'm still here okay all right so microbiome probiotics prebiotics we're gonna take these supplements the australia gawanda something echinacea vitamin c yeah you were getting there we're gonna take those and then we're gonna drink water yes and you're gonna eat healthy all right any other thing else that we should be doing prior to event to so that we can get through it and not get sick those are probably your best bets for avoiding upper respiratory infections and getting colds other than you know like not kissing people right so when we get back yes and we and we didn't do those things and we feel like dan and i feel right now and our noses are stuffy and we're coughing and sneezing and all the things.
What should we take? Are we just in for the long haul? Is it just, you got to suffer out for a week or so or suffer it out. I mean, sometimes we went to the doctor, but we try not to go just for sleep fluids and vitamin C are your best bets when you're actually already sick.
Lots of lots of fluids which i mean i know with me anytime we come back from an event i gotta go right back to the office i'm typically like running like crazy things so i don't have the opportunity to sleep um very much but i i try and get good sleep best i can when i'm sick just doesn't always happen yeah and for viral infections really the only thing they could do to help you is what steroids can help with that is that steroids basically what that does is it prevents your body from producing the chemicals that make you feel icky it's not necessarily a good thing to take steroids when you're sick unless you absolutely have to your body needs to fight that off on its own um so basically all you're doing is kind of shooting yourself in the foot you feel better but you're actually not fighting the bacteria or the virus as prevalent that's probably why like if you get a steroid shot you feel great the day of and like the next day and then you crash again yeah so you're saying steroids aren't fighting the the virus they're just making you they're kind of emergency situations like if you're really sick with something and like you've got a big event masking it you've got a shareholder meeting or something the next day and you can't talk because your voice is gone yeah take a steroid shot but it's not like a normal hey every time you get a virus let's go get some steroids yeah so you're saying it's better not to it's okay gotcha that makes sense uh okay but it is our joke in the lifestyle that when we come home we're like has anybody been sick who has a swinger flu of course sometimes it's covid let's be real sometimes a strep throat covid strep throat those are probably the two like things that we see other than this little virus um that we see often and usually we don't tell anybody we're sick unless we do have strep if we have covid if we have one of those we those, we'll say, hey, guys, we tested positive for COVID.
It doesn't happen that often. But usually when you're around, when you're in any large group, there's going to be somebody in there that might have it. So it happens. And also a plug that if you're sick, don't go to a party if you can avoid it. One of our friends the other night was supposed to come to a party with us. And she texted us in the morning.
She's like, my stomach's very good i threw up a couple times but i'm going to try and come tonight and i was like no you aren't no stay home everybody's got christmas coming up and if you make us all sick we're going to be pissed so and she decided to stay home which is the right thing to do so you know if you're getting sick you feel like you're getting sick just don't go to the party because nobody wants to catch your your crap yeah i felt like that was like the one thing we learned from covid like it's okay to stay home when you're sick like that's encouraged i thought we learned that but it is but but like one time dan um was he had just got home from a deployment and we were so excited we're like we're going to trapeze atlanta we can't wait and we get to atlanta we go to the club and all of a sudden it just like hits him and we thought it was jet lag we didn't know he was just like like dead he was just really struggling come Monday it was sure enough COVID but he felt great when he walked into the club we had no idea so sometimes yeah sometimes it's unavoidable you just don't know until you just don't know but if you know you're getting sick do the right thing stay home yeah yeah agreed agreed Okay.
right well that sums up dr store's um recommendations for how to stay healthy and attend a swimmer event yeah to survive it without getting sick well i think we learned some stuff i think we're gonna probably look into the osha gawasha pills and that stuff so we can uh drink some water yeah Work on our microbiomes and take some it's a good time to start being brought to go into 2025 like i'm not big on new cruise resolutions but that's definitely something to like work towards especially if you like do like a big trip like if you're going on a bliss cruise maybe like two weeks before so you don't come home that's the worst i mean you know you go drop a couple thousand dollars on a cruise the last thing you want to do is get sick you know day two or three and then uh you know you mean you have to go to that emergency room right yeah don't go to the air on the ship if you can avoid it oh it's pricey yes we learned the hard way i had cellulitis on the ship in a from a bug bite so a beast thing that she scratched yes uh okay yes all right so speaking of bliss cruise you just got back from a bliss cruise what's made you think about this is today we're recording this like the week before christmas so i don't know when it's coming out but today bliss released a new cruise did you know this dr shore i did i heard about this they booked all their cruises next year.
And so they opened up a new one. Yeah. So they, they're going to do three in 2026. So they're doing a shorter cruise. It's in February of 2026. It's shorter. Um, I think it's, it's like four nights, three days or something like that. Three nights, four days, something like that. Um, and it's, it's going to Bahamas. And so we actually booked it today.
So it's been, And our and so we actually booked it today so it's been and our friends booked it yeah so it's been a topic we've been talking about all day it's like all of our group checks are talking about going on this cruise so i'm sure that's what made dan think of it he was like wait she just got home from the cruise in november so he was like let's let's ask her how it was for anybody that has never been on a cruise. It's nice to hear from somebody other than us, how it was. Oh, it was so much fun. So this is the biggest one they've ever done. Yeah. Yeah.
It was on the symphony of the seas. I think was right. 6,000 swingers on a ship together. It was a frickin amazing. So many people, so much fun. This, this like layout of the boat was really nice because it had a lot of really big open areas. A lot of the boats, the areas where you can get together are fairly small. This one had these massive areas that thousands and thousands of square feet that you could just hang out in, like a big boardwalk. It was really nice. You didn't ever really feel crowded, even at the big parties, like there was space to move around.
Um, so that was, it was really nice. Um, it was definitely kind of a, I think maybe a better experience for Reagan and I partially because we'd been on one before and we sort of knew what to expect, but there was also like a lot more space. Like I didn't feel quite so claustrophobic that's what i was gonna ask how like because in my opinion 3 000 swingers on a cruise ship is like it's a lot like you see somebody and you might not ever see them again um to me 6 000 seems like almost like too much overwhelming yeah too much did you get that feeling being on the big ship I really didn't.
It's kind of funny. I don't know how it works out, but it does. We, we bumped into the same people over and over again. And some people we were looking for, we like never found, never saw them the entire seven days. We're like, I know they were on a ship, but we never bumped into them. Um, but there's just so much space on the ship that it really wasn't overwhelming. It didn't feel like we were bumping into people, literally bumping into people everywhere we went. There was a lot of space. There was a lot of room. There were so many different spaces to hang out in at the same time.
There was playrooms all over the ship that were all open at either the same time or varying times. And like I said, the parties were in areas that were really massive and they had more than one party typically going on at the same time so people were kind of like going from different parties and it really it was very rarely any time where I felt overwhelmed with too many people because the boat was so big that's nice yeah so just for context for that a normal I don't even know about a normal list cruise but most of their are somewhere around 3,000 people. Yeah, 3,000 to 4,000, 3,500, yeah.
Typical. Yeah. And so this was – I think this was the first time they did one of the 6,000-person ship, and it was sold out. 100%. And so – And I don't know in 2025 if they're doing a ship that big again. I know that like – No, I don't think they are.
I don't think think so i think 2020 2025 they might be doing one of them that's the oasis class but i'm not sure i'd have to look i can look while we're talking while we talk but yeah no we had a really great time um honestly we knew some people that were going to be on the ship that we had met the last time we were on the bliss cruise last spring and so we made like intent to go and hang out with them and like one of them has a um like a room party every day at sea between like 2 and 5 p.m or whatever and so we went the first day on that the first day at sea on that and then that kind of like led us into meeting people that we had been like oh yeah i met I met you last time too.
And we kind of rekindled some old friendships, which was super helpful. That was also when I started breaking my own rules. I told Regan, I was like, I'm going to break some of my rules. I had some lifestyle rules going in that I decided I didn't really need to have. And one of those was I didn't want to ever fuck somebody that was older than my dad. And I decided I'm going to break that rule. We're going to see how this goes. And so that very first room party, a lot of the men were older than we were. We were probably one of the youngest couples there and we're in our forties.
So I grabbed one of the guys that looked like he was probably in his mid seventies, which is my dad's age. And you know what? He was a hell of a ton of fun. Dude knew what he was doing. I love that. That's awesome. I love that because I want to still be doing this in my 70s. Yeah, same. So the fact that this 70-year-old man got grabbed up by a 40-year-old woman and said, I really want you to fuck me. And he did that. And you're saying that was a good experience for both of you. It was a great experience.
experience and honestly he's not the oldest man i had sex with on that ship you want to hear my my oldest man story oh my gosh this is such a good story okay you guys ready for this okay so last night at dinner we didn't make any plans that night most of the times we would like during the day we'd be like oh you guys want to meet up for dinner this time we like intentionally didn We're going to like, we'll just see who we get sat with. And they sat this very sweet little old man right next to me. He didn't – yeah, just wait until you hear how old he is.
He didn't have his partner with my asshole. Where's your partner? And he goes, oh, well, she didn't come like three days before. And I was thinking in the back of my mind, I'm like, they usually won't let you on without a partner but but he was so old they let him anyways um that's funny yeah we got to chatting dude dude remembers Pearl Harbor he was seven oh wow when Pearl Harbor happened wow he's 90 years old and we got to chat he told me all about Pearl Harbor he told me about his his first car was a Ford, um, model T Ranger. Oh my God. A 1926 model T Ranger.
I was like, Oh my God, you might be the coolest old person I have ever met. And so he, you know, I would talk to him. I was like, you know, so have you got any action on the ship? And he's like, well, I've been down to the playrooms and I've watched a lot, but it's like, I haven't really been able to find anybody that's kind of by themselves.
And I'm like, everybody's partnered up, supposed to go and talk to part you know to people that are yeah it's a couple screws i'm not sure he really kind of understood the concept um and i was like well i'll play with you and he's like no you won't and i was like absolutely i will so i took him off to the playroom that night and played with him that is amazing he was twice my age dude found my clint too i'm proud right and he got hard yeah he No meds. It wasn't hard enough for me to actually ride him, but I gave him a blowjob. That is – Did he come? Right? Did he come? No. Oh, God. No.
I don't know how he would feel. But he got hard and also gave me oral and actually found my clitoris. I was quite proud. Wow. Did you come? Did you come? No. But – Wow. I mean – But what a cool story.
actually found my clitoris i was quite proud wow it's like that did you come did you come no but i mean but what is my story he found my clit like that's better than 50 of the men that i've been with that is a cool story you probably made his whole trip that is awesome and this is this whole story one i hope i'm the 90 year old guy i wanted to be the 70 year old guy getting grabbed by a 40 year old woman now i want to be the 90 year old guy getting grabbed by a 40 year old woman so you just you just uh changed my hopes and dreams by like 30 years 20 years whatever uh but this this is the kind of story i love and part of what i love about the lifestyle is i think a lot of times we get caught up into the oh i want to fuck the hottest people and i want to have sex with the people that i'm like the most attracted to and and you know like oh that's gross why would you do that but like it's fun like it's just fun it's wholesome i don't wholesome but it's i don't think wholesome's any anywhere in the lifestyle but that's okay but i think it's okay for us right but you know what i'm saying like our version of holes we're all adults we all are sexual beings like if you if you see a nine-year-old and you're like you know what i kind of wonder what this would be like to to play with this person and you're down and he's down like what's wrong with that i think that's i think that's amazing there's nothing wrong with it and i like legit he made my night i didn't just make his he made mine i was like that was the coolest thing that i like i fucked a guy who remembers pearl harbor i think that's something to be said for that and you're going to be telling that story the rest of your life like yeah yeah and that's to me i'm like always about the story like if anybody says you want to do this or you want to like we joke now because we say like it's for the podcast but before the podcast it was always like it's a cool story we were probably crazier before the podcast now we i think i feel like we we kind of yeah are trying to be like a little more mature and like oh we got we got this platform now we can't be too crazy uh where i think before we're like fuck it let's do it you know yeah that's awesome though i think that's what this lifestyle is about right is going and having new experiences pushing yourself outside of the box that you would normally be in, and just having a good time.
Yeah. And it sounds like you got the opportunity to do that several times. It was at last. The only other story I have, and if I don't tell this, Regan will kill me because it's his favorite story from the trip. Yeah. Regan and I were supposed to meet down in one of the playrooms, but there was a guy who was coming to my room to play with me. And so Regan was like, I'm going to go down to the playroom. When you finish with him, come down and find me.
And so I played with a dude in our room, had a great time, went downstairs to go to the playroom to find my husband and bumped into somebody that I'd met at one of the other parties earlier in the week. And I was like, oh, I told you I was going to fuck you. And he's like, yeah, let's fuck. And I was like, great. And so there was a space that was like one of the like open beds with like the drapes pulled back kind of thing. Like it wasn't a hidden bed.
And it was literally right as you walk into the playroom, like you walk into the playroom and like, that's the bed that's right in front of you. And so we start playing and there's a woman and her partner on the same mattress with us. And they're like, yeah, sure. You can share. And after like, you know, five, six, seven minutes or whatever of us playing, like we're kind of starting to look at each other like couples. And, you know, of course me being the one that I am, I'm like, Hey, you guys want to swap? And they're like, yeah, sure. Let's swap. And so we swapped dudes.
And about that time happened. Somebody else, another guy walked up and was like, Hey, can I get in on this?
I like sure water's warm come on in and before I knew it I had fucked five men and still had not found my husband I hadn't even looked for him yet so Reagan calls it my accidental gangbang yeah that's wonderful I need an accidental gangbang yeah I think so yeah I feel like we need to get doctor stores but like she is much more she's living her best life casual about this yeah very casual yeah yeah you are very casual i just don't take myself too seriously no that's wonderful you know i okay so we're going on the bliss cruise in april this year i'm challenging myself to talk to one guy and say i'll fuck you just say it just say it i'm gonna tell i'm gonna do the doctor store that's what we're gonna call it i'm gonna try to do it oh so you're you want to do the 90 year old guy not i don't know that um but but you want to take that approach like where you're just talking to somebody and be like oh i will tell you some of the best sex i've had on those trips have been with people that aren't considered maybe necessarily traditionally really gorgeous, but they happen to have great personalities.
I've, um, I've always been much more into personality than into looks. And if I don't jive with you, like on a personality wise, I'm probably not going to have sex with you just because I'm not going to get anything out of it. So, um, yeah, like some of the like best sex I've had on those cruise ships for people that I was just like bumped into and I was like, Hey, you want to play? And they're like, yeah, sure. Why not? You know? And all of a sudden, you know, two days later we're fucking again, you know, it's like, that was great. That's awesome. Yeah.
No, I think that's a good takeaway from this. So like, it's okay to be a little more casual with sex. That's kind of what this lifestyle is all about.
We're not taking these people home to meet our parents and secondly i think it's if you get outside of that and i think we're all stuck in this because we were taught this from the time right you're only going to fuck people you're only in a relationship and you only fuck people because you want to bring them home to your parents you want to marry them and you want to have children together and you want to have a build a life together so like when we're seeking partners i think part of our brain is always thinking like is this person acceptable to be a life partner for me like i think we're just kind of stuck we're just fucking them and i think if you can break outside of that and be like i'm not trying to do that i'm just trying to have some sex and this person seems fun and yeah right i might they not might not be someone that i would consider myself conventionally attracted to outside of this setting but but they're a fun person and i want to have fun with them i think i think that's okay yeah and honestly you know if dr source saying anything here she's saying when she did that she found herself having more fun kind of like unexpected fun yeah yeah i mean i would say it's there's a big difference between necessarily who i play with when we're at home like when i'm at parties at home i like to kind of have a connection i like to have chatted with you for a little while if i'm on a bliss cruise i'll anything like literally i i'm pansexual if i if i jive with you at all i don't care what genitalia you have i don't care what you were born as i will play with you um and i have great times with that and fun stories you know like accidental gang bangs oh by the way, I'm also the worst at giving oral.
That happened on the cruise ship, too. You're the worst at giving oral? Worst fluffer ever. Okay, so I came to a glory hole. Yeah, you're looking very confused, Dan. Just wait to the end of the story. I came up to a glory hole, and they just lost one of their fluffers. And so they're like, we need a fluffer! And I just dropped Reagan off and I was like, oh damn, I'll go ahead and fluff. I'm the worst fluffer ever. I had three men come in my mouth before they got to the glory hole. I over fluff. You over fluff. Yeah. Three men came in my mouth. That makes more sense. Those guys were not sad.
I can guarantee you that. None of them seem to be very distraught by the fact that I over fluffeduffed them. But I felt kind of bad they didn't make it to the glory hole. They'll be okay. So you were on the – so we understand this. There's the glory hole. So there's women on the other side of the hole. That are waiting for the girls. And I've had this experience. Yes. And so what you don't realize is on the male side of that hole, there's usually just a bunch of dudes standing around looking at each other jerking off. Yes, exactly.
And it can be very difficult if you're in that side of the glory hole to get a heart on because you're just standing in a room with dudes jerking off. Which is why they had fluffers. So they got really creative. Yeah, they were really creative with this glory hole.
the glory was actually out on the balcony and they hung up these like they hung up these rods and ropes from the edges of the balcony like um walls you know and and they put they put up what was i believe a harry potter like robe so it's like this big black robe you know it's kind of scary looking um and then they had the glory hole like kind of in in the sleeve shall we say and then there was like three women that were fluffing in the room so like is this an official glory hole you went out onto the balcony We'll be right back.
kind of in in the sleeve shall we say and then there was like three women that were fluffing in the room so like is this an official glory hole you went on to the balcony to get glory it doesn't seem like it's a bliss cruise official glory hole this seems like it's something a makeshift very makeshift but damn there was a line of men out the hallway yeah but there was like two or three fluffers in the room at any given time that were sucking the men off to get them to the glory hole but i i'm i over fluff i'm sorry well yeah worse things could happen yeah i doubt they were upset about that so just circle back on the bliss cruise as far as size i looked on the website and it doesn't look like any of the current ones that they're selling for are mega yeah or this,000.
So they're not the latest class, okay. Yeah, so most I see is like 3,000, and that's going all the way to November, 2026. So maybe that's in the following year or something. I don't know, but yeah. Yeah, so honestly, the smaller ones were great too. We really liked the ship. We liked that there was a lot of people on it. But I know they typically go with the smaller ships because they're like the higher end ships for Royal Caribbean. Yeah. I can only imagine what a deposit is to hold one of those ships to go do a summer cruise. It's got to be ridiculous. Don't get any wild thoughts.
I don't even want to know. Dr. Thor's going to give us some money to hope we want to throw our own party. Well, and speaking of parties and Dr. Shore being there, we will be in Dallas in just a few weeks. And Dr. Shore is saying she might come. I am fully coming. Dan basically told me that we're coming. Dan said, we're going to be at Collatz in January and you have tickets. So're coming yeah what are the dates make sure I'm not we were on like our weekly meeting and I was like can somebody send dr.

Yeah.
Well, if people want to see what you look like, how do they find you and where do they go? Well, I mean, I do have some websites and stuff. I think I've got videos up on my websites. I honestly, I've, I look a little different than a lot of the videos on those things though. I've, I've lost a bunch of weight and I went back to my natural curly blonde hair. So, um, but yeah, I've got the swinging safe.com is an educational website. We actually pulled down the paywall for all of the videos. So you can watch all of the videos that I've ever put up on that website.
Um, I have a lot, that's probably like the easiest place to get lots of educational stuff going on for, for lifestyle things. Yeah.
