It's taken 10 minutes of trying to log in, refresh, click and wait just to get to this page. Now when we click on Messages, we get a message that says "You have no messages " and the ENTIRE message history is GONE. Like every single message/chat with all other profiles just gone. I'm guessing this is the meaning of lifetime membership. It appears SLS is finally nearing the end.
Site Is Slow And Giving Error Messages AGAIN
Hot dates intermittent all day. Site slow to load pics and other things. Ugh.
Hot Dates not working...shocking, everything usually works so well here....LMAO.
Hot dates not working……….AGAIN!
I know this is going to be a real shocker, but the site is very slow this morning and there are continued error messages. But I think I figured out why the red banner won’t go away. It’s must be sponsored. Their sponsor stuff always work! The lesser things like profiles and hot dates not so much.
I see we are moving at Compuserve dial-up speeds this morning...........
Site is very slow to load. Staff will come in here and reply it works fine for them. Just so you know, SLS staff, that is a very condescending answer to give. At least say we will look into it. I honestly don’t care if it loaded quickly for you. For tons of us it is and has not. That’s is what matters.
Its bouncing ball Monday again!
I just use Chrome on my phone to access the SLS website. Another reason I see no need to install and use the app.
The apps is pretty useless overall. We tend to keep it on our devices for quick messaging if /when it works but as stated it leaves ALOT on the table and doesn’t really mirror the site much at all.
Slow and app does not show who visited you vs website that shows it. APP most of the time just shows the group of people going around in circle sometimes if it loads when sending messages to someone through APP it doesn't go through.
FWIW - When you get Alerts (generally SLS sponsored party emails), you'll see the "bird" to the left of the Messages/Alerts links in the upper right, but you will also see a red circle over the Alerts link with the # of unseen alerts. It is not just the bird by itself.
We've gotten tons of 404 errors today, our messages selectively load. There's messages we tried to load and they won't, but when you go back, they're read now, even though we couldn't read them. It doesn't look like the issues are getting better.
"...The bird seems to work fine on the alerts. Is there an essential difference in the two messages. Why would the bird , that worked before, not work now?..."
The numerical indicator in the red circle works on the message system; the birdie works on the old mail system.
I can't remember if we ever got a numerical indicator in addition to the birdie (either when it was just the mail system or now that it is alerts used for messages from groups).
At a guess they are two entirely independent systems with no programming connection - and probably no common code so trying to append either notification method onto the other system would create more of a mess than we already have.
At some point patching a kludge of legacy code becomes more difficult than a complete rewrite. Based on past performance, simplification might be a better goal for SLS than complexity.
Then the subroutine used for the number count is identical to the one showing the birdie on the alerts?
I am guessing that they are different.
What it takes to recognize and unopened mail is different than keeping track of how many and which files are unopened.
If there are any unopened files the birdie gets a yes. If the are no unopened file the birdie gets a no. There is no attempt to keep anything other than that straight.
When trying to keep straight how many and which files are left open, the complexity increases.
The bird seems to work fine on the alerts. Is there an essential difference in the two messages. Why would the bird , that worked before, not work now? Heck use the bird for BOTH.
LOL now our message folder is empty, telling us we have no messages ... no not NEW messages, no messages whatsoever
lcmim - With the current problem, it does equally no good to have the bird showing all of the time. Either way, the system is currently not capable of telling you if or how many new messages you have.
Showing a bird in place of a # is provividng less info and may be no easier to get that working than getting the # of new messages counter to display properly.
Just to be clearer, and again, assuming I understand things correctly, the red 0 does NOT mean you don't have new messages. It is just a default display for now. They could maybe have just not shown anything when you got new messages, but it is broken either way.
If the counter was an issue why not just dump it? The birdie works just fine on alerts.
Why not just pick anther thing ( a couple of rabbits humping or something) and use the same subroutine on messages? The birdie was on messages at first and you moved it to alerts, so you have the ability to manipulate that aspect.
Most of us do not care how many new messages are there, just that there are new messages.
lcmim - If I understand things correctly, the issue is the counter is basically broken and they're working on it. In the meantime it will display a red 0, but it is meaningless. Having a bird in place of the red 0 wouldn't fix anything.
The red banner of ineptitude continues to fly! When it is to be removed is undefined.
Come on people, zero is their score of competence. It’s outcome based web maintenance. Everyone gets a trophy. They are doing a fantastically zero job.
Wayne said this in another post:
We have intentionally turned off the new message counter. That is why it is showing "0" or undefined. You still can send and receive messages. You will need to go into your messages to see if you have new messages. That process was causing some of the server issues. Our developers are database administrator are addressing it
We had the "undefined" notification earlier ... then as I am perusing SLS, the "undefined" notification changed to "2" ... I think, "let's see if we actually have 2 messages" ... Then I click the message tab to were it shows our list of message threads and now the number is back to "0" .. no new messages and I never opened a message thread
0 would indicate a negative. As we are all very aware of,the operators of this site are extremely caring about customer service and satisfaction and offering its customers the finest experience on the web, particulary the ones who pay. Thus the word undefined has replaced "0" so that no one feels bad about not getting a message.
Is anyone else getting same? It’s actually more elliptical then oval but nonetheless we’re now undefined in the msg arena
