Message system generating an automated FRIEND request now with each message

New Orleans, LA, Us

Message alert system is apparently having a seizure. I opened the site and had no new messages, then it flashed 21, then 2 then none again. Then 20, 19, 18, none and started up the random numbers again. This all happened within a few seconds.

We only have one new message alerting us we have a friend request.

I'd like to think so, travelers, since they're a couple, but...eh. Probably just a glitch. ;-)

@GGMM - Perhaps you are valued at twice the going rate as a friend?

Personally, I'm going with that thought.......

Phoenix, AZ, Us

I accepted one friend request and got two. So, the same profile shows up twice in my friends list.

We had one member send a request that showed up twice. We accepted the request and it is still doubled up and shows twice.

Definitely a glitch in the system.

Wayne - Just in case you need more info - rabbit's experience is not an isolated incident. I also had 3 requests from one profile occur in the past - probably a month or so after the feature became available. All three were there when I logged on one day and all disappeared when I denied the first one.

<p>It appears that the glitch is that somehow someone was able to send you multiple friend requests. I just checked from a web browser and from the app and after sending a friend request, the icon changes to "pending" and does not let me send other requests. I don't know how they did that. I will try to figure it out.</p>

Yes. 3 friend requests all from one profile.

Gainesville, FL, Us

<p>Do you mean that you saw the same profile listed 3 times in the "Friend Requests Pending" area?</p>

New Orleans, LA, Us

Got 3 friend requests from the same person. Denied one and all 3 disappeared at once. Another glitch?

I've worked in ITSM a long time and agree. Closing a ticket before you've confirmed with the customer the issue is resolved is a rookie move.

NYC- I agree about the possibility of a security breach but most of this is because of the app.

Through the app we can view and be viewed by members we’ve blocked/blocked us. If desired messages can be sent.

Some free members can contact us despite them not being able to message. SLS claims it’s a promotion. I believe it’s another glitch.

These free members can message us despite having our profile hidden from free members. I guess invasion of our privacy is part of the a SLS promotion.

~rabbit~ :

Makes me think that there are some VERY SERIOUS security problems on SLS that we are not being told about.

I suspect developers are not writing all the code but that they may be accepting chunks of code from outside sources and just plugging it in. It happened at Zoom. I remember reading of a case at another [non-swing] site where an admin shared his credentials with programmers in China, I think it was and got them to do his work while he watched cat videos. Bad security. Who knows where it could lead with confidential info. We got a friend request from someone that WE HAD BLOCKED. That someone that we blocked was able to contact us is an invasion of privacy and a security breach.

“ No friend request was sent by either of you. ”

Then why did we get a message saying it was accepted, the couple state they got a friend request from us and these people send a message to us?

What you are stating does not make sense.

This is the reply I got from support -“ There is a bug on the site that is causing friend request appearing to be coming from members. This happens when the member sending the message to you is using an emoji.
(SLS) 9/15/2020 12:17pm”

They then closed the ticket so I couldn’t reply.

This was not the case. We never wrote these people and certainly didn’t send an emoji. I doubt we ever looked at their profile.

They accepted a phantom friend request we never sent yet they don’t appear in our friends list.

SLS stop closing tickets until the issue is done being discussed. This is the second time we had an issue explained to us inadequately and had the ticket closed before we could further clarify the problem.

Got 2 messages today from a couple. The first said “friend request accepted” the other was your standard “hi, how are you doing”

The thing is we didn’t send them a friend request. We don’t send friend requests at all because we think it’s a stupid feature. They aren’t in our area so we didn’t accidentally send one while looking at “newest matches” or “who’s on” and they are not our type at all.

On top of that even though they accepted some phantom friend request they aren’t on our friends list.

<p>Thank you for posting this. I have done some checking and if you type the phrase, "friend request" in a message and send it, it changes it (only on your end) to that message that a friend request was sent. No friend request is being sent and the other member will get the correct message that you typed. This is a display issue only showing on your screen. I will create a ticket for this and send to the developers.</p>

Hi KJ

(Just a short message)

:)

Bartlett, TN, Us

seems messages now have to be so short (cryptic) for them to (1) stay in your message log and (2) not APPEAR to send a friend request

can anyone say Twitter (though they allow more characters)
Thanks Allan & B

KJ: I just returned home from Mrs. 888's surgery follow up. I got your messages, no request displayed on friends tab. I sent you a reply and is shows I sent you a request, while containing no message text. KA-RAZIEEE!

On one screen, when we clicked on the side menu, next to the "Friends" tab was the number 3548. When we went to the friends tab, we see that we have no friends (we don't use the feature).

For the life of me I can't figure out where I was that made that appear.

KJ: Have you confirmed it actually sends the request? If not, send a message and I’ll check the request tab to confirm whether or not it does and if it is just a glitch message saying you sent a friend request.

Why are messages being shortened?

Why are messages removed when you add a photo to the message?
