Interesting. All the economists AND wall street commentators are saying that this is due to Trump. A major part of the so-called "Trump Trade" was selling 10 year US bonds. Mortgage rates are based on the US 10 year treasury bond yields. The reason people were selling the long term bonds was that they were anticipating much higher deficits and other inflationary policies like tariffs and large reduction in the workforce (ie harsh immigration policies) from a Trump administration. So Thank you dumbasses who voted for the orange jesus.

Economists disagree, but they're disagreeing based on history vs models, because we don't have any sort of information about what a sustained healthy zero-inflation economy looks like. The Fed's target has for years been 2% inflation and they've hit the gas and the brakes pretty regularly to achieve that, but it's been at the expense of real wage growth, which causes significant social problems.
