[LOCKED]WTF

Kibbles

As a hockey mom and a lacrosse mom (both boys really aren't interested in fighting but pick the greatest sports to beat the crap out of people with balls and sticks legally) there is a time and a place for checking to keep things in line.

Protocols in this case keeps the act of the death penalty civilized.

If I were to voice an opinion, in line with being a hockey and lacrosse mom, I would say, "Forget compassion, kill them like they have killed their victims". But I won't say that because I am just death penalty curious.

"we're just content to spen money sticking them in 6X9 cell for the rest of their lives. Now that's a waste of taxpayer money."

This is the biggest myth when it comes to the pro-death penalty argument. It's not like someone is sentenced to the death penalty and is killed the next day. There's usually a waiting list. And appeals. And more court proceedings. How many death row inmates are paying their legal fees? My guess is not too many. Who is absorbing that cost? Tax payers. Who pays the prosecutors? Tax payers. Who pays the defense attorney(s)? Tax payers. Who pays the judge, jury, bailiffs, stenographer? Tax payers. Who pays to transport the convict to and from court? Tax payers. Who pays for the extra manpower needed for securing the prisoner while going to and from court? Tax payers.

All of these things cost money in addition to the cost of housing the prisoner. When it's all said and done, by the time an inmate actually reaches the death chamber, hundreds of thousands, if not millions of tax dollars have been spent for legal proceedings.

It's kind of like how many states have had to halt executions because their thiopental supplies were past their use-by date.

If your only requirement is that it will kill the guy, I can whip up some thiopental for you in a few hours.

I hope no one took me wrong with what I said! As a healthcare professional, yes: aeseptic technique is firmly entrenched in all of us. As a civilized person, yes: it's wrong to carry out such a punishment as any kind of "revenge" on the criminal and make it cruel or unusual punishment. That all being said, it still DOES seems a little ironic to do all that given that there's no chance for infection to set in and it makes no difference in the pain or any other pertinent factors. BUT, if I were the person administering such {which I could never do, it would bother me too much}, I would probably still feel compelled to follow the protocols I was taught and are firmly entrenched in me, whether they were required or not in that type of situation.

Property taxes? Your whining would be valid if you were still fantasizing about being my neighbor, but now that you've accepted your lot in life and are back to Mt Brick Shores, WTF are you bitching about?

Why didn't you ask that in the first place instead of complaining about money you aren't actually wasting?

"I'm technically against it, but I'm not exactly shedding a tear for the bastards when they get offed."

Hahaha. So true.

I feel about the same with respect to the death penalty for murderers as I do forum suspensions for chronic assholes.

I'm technically against it, but I'm not exactly shedding a tear for the bastards when they get offed.

"I am death penalty curious. It means I reserve the right to decide based on the situation versus to blatantly be for or against. And I reserve the right to be curious for as long as I live. "

you crack me up Sophia but I love this!

It has a deeper message to use these sanitary precautions on someone the courts deemed not worthy to live.

Even in a society where killing a criminal so horrendous that he is deemed unworthy to breath the same air as anyone else for any longer, society will still give them more respect and dignity than they offered their victims. One could argue that it is the littlest thing that keeps the death penalty a legitimate option for dealing with the worst criminals, making it less of a revenge and more of a consequence of the criminals activities.

Hey now, before anyone gets on me for being for or against the death penalty by what I wrote, I am death penalty curious. It means I reserve the right to decide based on the situation versus to blatantly be for or against. And I reserve the right to be curious for as long as I live.

"Why do we spend taxpayers money on Alcohol prep pads and sterile needles when we execute someone with a lethal injection. We afraid of infection? "

The state of New Jersey has spent a grand total of $0 on this. New Jersey hasn't executed anyone since 1963. And the Feds haven't executed anyone in more than a decade.

"The medical personnel probably would not even know how to go about performing the procedures without ritual of sanitation."

This. There's a protocol on doing everything, especially in the medical field. Proficiency comes from repetition and it's not like the people performing the lethal injection don't have other medical duties. Reinforce positive habits every time to ensure that they don't accidentally forget to sterilize a needle when treating a patient that they are actually trying to keep alive.

I don't begrudge even the worst offender a few dollars worth of standard medical procedure. The medical personnel probably would not even know how to go about performing the procedures without ritual of sanitation.

I agree on the point that we do it because it's the civilized thing to do, but from a practical standpoint, it DOES seem somewhat pointless, since there's no chance of an infection setting in, given the circumstances.

"Why do we spend taxpayers money on Alcohol prep pads and sterile needles when we execute someone with a lethal injection."

That's just what civilized societies do.

Fair Oaks, TX, Us

I agree. I have always thought that was pointless. They'll be dead long before any kind of infection could set in. {shrug}

I just saw this headline:

Cleveland women held captive will suffer long-term emotional damage

Do we REALLY need a news article to tell us this!?!?!!??

My wife found a great deal on shrubs , ornamental tree's , and some fruit tree's off of a facebook Barter/ selling page.
We spent 100.00 for over 1200.00 worth of the foliage.

The WTF moment was when the people were helping us load up informed us they were Abandoning the home, Just walking away.
They bought it @ 4 years ago, the landscaping items we bought were only planted Last spring.

We have bought plants like this before , through overstock or left over or end of season deals.
This was a first.

Either he has snowed the treatment team or they've snowed him with medications. Either way, it doesn't look like a smart decision.

Doctors treating Vince Li at the Selkirk Mental Health Center (Manitoba) have recommended he be allowed outings. He (apparently) scored very low on several tests for risk of violence, adding there is no evidence he would try to escape if taken on outings to Lockport and Winnipeg.

Mr. Li is currently under treatment for schizophrenia, following an episode in 2008 when he cut off the head of a fellow Greyhound bus passenger, and then proceeded to cut off body parts and eat them.

And even funnier would be if he left a pressure cooker by the ticket booth on his way in.

Who the hell thinks us stuff like that? Someone with a death wish?

Management at the Goodrich Capital 8 Theaters in Jefferson City Missouri thought this would be a great publicity stunt for the Iron Man 3 opening.....

Have a man dressed in all black and body armor walk through the theater in full tactical gear and carrying a (fake) M4 rifle and 9mm sidearm.

Seriously!?!?!?

scandle yes, unfortunately sometimes....people just make you shake your head. When we stayed at the Ronald McDonald house we would sit there watching while extended family members of people would sit and eat all of the donated dishes left in the kitchen, then there would not be plates left when the parents came back to shower and rest.
