Adolescence
Obituaries
We watched Adolescents last night.
British. The dad was the guy that played Al Capone in Boardwalk Empire. Totally different role.
It was different, but we enjoyed it.
I do think Lucky will mean more to me when I get older and have most of my life in the rear view mirror.
There were some things about it though. For some reason, the scene where he sang in Spanish at that birthday party... I don't know how to explain it.
Lucky missed the mark for me. But linoleum is terrific. Weird but terrific. Glad I'm not the only one feeling old as fuck.

Lucky missed the mark for me. But linoleum is terrific. Weird but terrific. And the casting was amazing.
Sir VA,
I have not heard of those movies, but will look into them. I will throw into that mix about movies of mortality and living life... The Bucket List. A truly funny movie, with an awesome meaning to life your life and enjoy things, before you kick the bucket.
A couple of movies about getting older that I've recommended in here and really enjoyed.
"Linoleum" with Jim Gaffigan
"Lucky" with Harry Dean Stanton.
I've watched Linoleum I think 5 times now and each time I see new things. That movie hits me harder emotionally every time.
I think Lucky will mean more to me when I'm 70+.
"Life is a lot shorter than ppl actually think."

The older I get the more real this gets.
100% agree with that.
Even though the green side of the dirt around here is brown with a layer of white on top of that, it's still a good day.
Any day on the green side of the dirt is a good day...
So true 8-inch.
To quote one of my favorite fishing giudes whenever I would bring up some discouraging news:
"Yay for today brother. Yay for today."
Anything over 75, you got your money's worth.
Make it to 80, you're playing with house money and gravy.
Life is a lot shorter than ppl actually think.
Too many ppl are waiting for the afterlife to enjoy life.
Kitty Dukakis, the author and former first lady of Massachusetts, has died. She was 88.
Wow... George Foreman.
In remembrance, everyone is now going to break out their countertop electric grill and make burgers.
Rest in peace, master of the boxing ring and countertop electric grill!
I just saw that. Rip George !
George Foreman. Rest in Power big guy.
My understanding is that Hackman was a notoriously private person even long before his retirement, and family and friends not hearing from him for extended periods of time was not unusual.
Speculating here, but it sounds like she was looking after him. IMO, at 65, she was till quite capable of taking care of both of them. It sounds like she passed from her disease much more quickly than would typically be expected from someone infected with it.
I don't understand why, with all his money, they didn't have a nurse at least stopping by occasionally to check on them
CO was my initial thought too. I had mentioned that was where my money was earlier in this thread.
I was unaware that Hackman was suffering from dementia. IMO that's far worse than heart disease.
What was your initial thought BTW? Mine was CO poisoning.
Yep. Pretty ugly end. And the poor dog too. Can't imagine what Hackman was thinking.
It's sort of weird that Hanta virus would take someone out that quickly and acutely. I always pictured it as more of a severe flu. Though they say the 1919 flu killed people pretty quickly too.
After reading the latest developments in Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa's deaths, it's a darn good thing I didn't place a bet based on my initial thought.
Far more heartbreaking than my initial speculation.
Damn.
I recall Ford as an ineffectual manager after the craziness of Nixon. All of it seemed a bit remote except for Nixon's resignation and general relief. Ford was mostly memorable for his falling down stairs which got the most coverage. Press priorities haven't changed much. Ford seems like a Cadillac compared to the current duo.
RIP
