"One of my first memories is the assassination of President Kennedy."
My earliest memory is watching the funeral procession on TV.
I had just turned 5 when Jimmy was sworn in.
All I know of him is what I've read and watched as an adult.
My earliest recollection of Carter were the
skits on Saturday Night Live. The first president that I really knew of, was Regan. I was 9 when he was sworn in.
I was born when Eisenhower was President.
One of my first memories is the assassination of President Kennedy.
I remember the 1968 Democratic Convention, lived in Chicago at the time.
Carter was elected shortly after I graduated from high school.
Richard Nixon was president when I was born, but Jimmy Carter was the first president that I remember being president. I also remember my father explaining to me why he wasn't going to be president any more.
Jimmy Carter was President when I was born. I know nothing of his accomplishments while actively in office. I only know of what he had done in life, after his Presidency ended. From all that I have learned about his Presidency, the consensus is that he was not the best person for the position. But, he was one hell of a humanitarian before and after office.
"No other President (that I can think of) lived a life of service to others like he did after leaving office."
Before too. One of the stories currently going around was of when he was a young lieutenant in the nuclear sub program and volunteered to go to Canada to help with a nuclear reactor accident. He also retired from the Navy, where he apparently had a bright future ahead of him, when his father died, so that he could go home and take care of the family peanut farm.
His political instincts weren't great, but he earned that Peace Prize honestly.
Yup
Jimmy might not have been the best President but he was probably the best human being who had the job.
No other President (that I can think of) lived a life of service to others like he did after leaving office.
RIP Jimmy
Wow! It is finally true that Jimmy Carter has died!
Jimmy Carter, the Nobel Peace Prize-winning 39th president of the United States who transformed his legacy from one-term commander-in-chief to beloved humanitarian, died on Sunday, Dec. 29, at the record-breaking age of 100

"There is too much negativity within the human race."
My dogs agree with that sentiment and they let me know- usually after I tell them "NO".
I think there are a few Forum participants who feel the same way. They post often in some threads about how anxious they are for aliens to get here and they don't mean from Mexico.
Amen
Lighten up a little bit.... Most of us have been in one or more near-death situations in our lives.
It's damn near Christmas Day.
Be happy to see 2025, many didn't make it.
