Happy Thoughts 2020

...And the HTs keep coming; Learned yesterday that my son will begin college in a few weeks on campus vs Virtually. Surprisingly, The airline tickets and rental car weren’t all that expensive. My assumption was that the airlines, with their reduced loads and routes, would be more expensive. Now, I just have to figure out my testing protocol so I can test and receive results within 3 days of our flight to Beantown.

Marco fizzles. Laura swings to the left, we think. BT gets official word that his furlough is coming to an end with a return to work on the horizon. Survivor’s remorse, the employment version, kicking in. (I guess that’s a bitch fest?)

11,000 homes sold in July in Harris county . Good to see people still buying homes . We are very happy for these folks.

Bored to tears so taking the 5th wheel down to Rockport beach for a month.

We considered the MX-5. In most aspects of performance, it is superior, although the Abarth version has some special goodies over the Fiat 124.

Where the Abarth 124 won for us was

A. Style (purely subjective)

B. Interior space. It's slightly bigger than the MX5, and for me at 6'1 the MX5 is a pretty tight squeeze. And

C. Trunk space. The 124 has a much bigger trunk. I can fit a full cart of groceries in it. We can pack for 4 days away - including my baseball gear - in the trunk.

D. "That's different". There are MX-5's everywhere. I very rarely encounter another 124. People ask me in parking lots, at gas stations and red lights, what it is, all the time. Some might not like getting that sort of attention.

Va,

In our house Miata Is Always The Answer.

I’m not a fan of the exterior metal of the Fiata, but I think our El Camino looks good, so there’s that.

I’m definitely with you on the fun quotient. There are few cars, if any, on the planet that can consistently deliver cheap, every drive, smiles. I’m sure you’ll be enjoying that car for a long time.

Fiat 124 Abarth is. Nice car , throwback to the era of the Triumphs MGs and Jags . One of the few roadsters left . We liked the Fiat 500 Abarth , but scared of the maintenance and having to use premium gas.

lol you ain't a fan of the Abarth?

It's not the quickest thing on the planet, but it's fun as hell to drive. Everywhere I go people ask me what it is.

And while this is subjective, I for one think it's gorgeous. Ours is red with the black stripe.

Va,

That’s thing must sing like Pavarotti. That’s awesome!

Sorry to hear about your 124 Abarth.

Stelvio Quadrifoglio. Has the 2.9L twin turbo V6 version of the Ferrari F154 in it.

The convertible I refer to is our Abarth 124 Spider.

HT: we finally replaced our X3 last September. A few months later, the wheels of the world came off. Our travel has been very low.

We love our Alfa. We are so happy with it. We don't drive it much because we take our little convertible most of the time but- what a machine. I'll never own a Ferrari, but at least I can own an engine and steering wheel.

Congratulations, Fokkers! It's wonderful to hear not just happy "thoughts" but also authentic happy news! We wish the newlyweds--and their parents--greatest happiness on this next phase of their lives. We hope their marriage works brilliantly, and they will look back on this day with greatest fondness in 2070 and beyond!

Sorry to disappoint HFT, but no I didn’t.

Some other happy thoughts from that day (for me at least)

I was asked to give the toast and managed to walk away with an offer to give one at my soon to be niece’s wedding.

My daughter decided that she wanted to be walked to Rod Stewart’s “Have I told you lately”, which Mrs F and I’s wedding song. Turns out it was also the wedding song of our new in-laws as well.

The officiant was the mayor of the town, it was the second time I have been at a wedding with that town’s mayor officiating.

I managed to keep the jacket on for the next 3 hours in 80 degrees and humidity and I didn’t sweat... and that is always a happy thought at least for I.

Pretty sure my daughter’s boss flirted with me when she said, “...so this is Daddy. Can I call you Daddy?” LOL
