Yeah I never thought it was going to be anything more than putting lipstick on a pig...
Timeline for the rebranded site?
@moekathy - we suspected as much, but wanted to be optimistic going off what was being said.
What did I tell you? :)
Our hopes have been crushed … no new site coming per Wayne. The big rebrand was the new jumping logo and domain name redirect. Not sure what the new features coming will be. Maybe we’ll get a timeline or idea what those features will be.
@moekathy, oh believe me I am. We’ve been on here over 10 years (as singles, then as a couple) so we’ve seen the evolution of the site from then until now. I guess I’m hopeful that they aren’t sitting on the rebranded site, but rather waiting until they have a majority of the kinks worked out before going live. Time will tell what happens. We just want to be optimistic and that’s why we asked for a basic timeline or if not then just own up and go on the record stating what the game plan is.
I hope you are right Italian, but logic is not in your favor. Let's think this over. Your hypothesis implies that SLS is sitting on functioning code, holding off on releasing it, while the web site suffers, complaints reach an all time high, and members leave or at least threaten to. Does that make business sense?
It is very hard to offer a whole bunch of features in one shot. It becomes a nightmare to manage bugs and problems due to the complexity of interactions. Instead, gradual introductions of features, one at a time is what most do. This means you will get incremental improvements over time and you won't wake up on Christmas morning to see an amazing totally transformed SLS awaiting you.
I guess I am just trying to say, keep your expectations modest :)
I should have saved the post from Wayne. It was eluded to that new features and such were coming and that existing Unlimited members would be carried over to the new site. It seems absolutely pointless to rebrand and not make the change to a fresh new site. Why the new home page? Why tease with its presence? When we rebranded our group, we rebuilt a whole new site around that rebrand. Maybe it’s wishful thinking, but a few of us saw the implied messaging as such. If this dev team is as top flight as they claim, but can’t fix the current site because it’s so outdated code-wise, it’d behoove them to just launch a new site that’s easier to manage. I guess time will tell, but there doesn’t seem to be any urgency to update the current incarnation. fingers crossed
Italian, you keep eluding to a new build or a new site but I think you're building up too much expectation. All Wayne said is that they are renaming the site. He did not say you're getting a new build, or new code, or a new site. Think of it as if your son renamed himself from Mike to Jim. He remains the same in every other aspect.
IN THE MEANTIME --- CAN WE DISABLE THE JUMPING GREEN DUDE?
Reading this thread, I've figured out that a new domain/website is coming -- congratulations to the tech people putting in the hard work to make it happen!
But I have to say: The green stickfigure who goes from the 'Swinglifestyle' logo to the new logo is distracting. Once, twice, or even five times in a row might be appropriate; but once it's made the point it's trying to make, can it please end?
Please?
@MandC, swing dot com is a new homepage design (possibly a preview of what’s to come), but the login redirects currently to here. Wayne confirmed when asked that current Unlimited members would be ported over without losing their membership. Hopefully we’re getting a ground up rebuild and abandoning of the current site.
Far be it from me to defend SLS, but if you've bought a domain name and are working on a new site and are planning to migrate over to the new site, you are not going to see any differences in the old site. The developers will be working on the new site, it will be tested, and when ready, will be launched. Swinglifestyle dot com would look exactly the same until the new site is ready to go.
Has it been confirmed that the new domain of Swing dot com will represent a newly re-designed site? Or is it just going to redirect to this SLS site?
Took me 3 tries just now to get on. First was a full page of code. Then error messages 2x Finally was able to get on again.
Well, there was no announcement per se (SLS never announces anything in advance). We basically had to drag the info out of Wayne, kicking and screaming, but eventually he did specifically confirm a rebrand and new site.
It was addressed on here that a complete rebrand was announced with expansion of features. Why bother if all they are doing is keeping the old non functional site? This is why we’ve been asking for a timeline. We figured the home page is just a redirect until the dev team os ready to launch the update. I mean that’s the logical conclusion.
You guys keep mentioning rebranding and a new home page but that is not true. There is a new domain name, and a login screen but once you log in, you are back to the old SLS homepage. That is far from having a new site and I did not hear SLS announce such thing either.
Leave it to this fucking company to spend time and money on rebranding instead of making this site and its database usable.
@vabeachcouple, yes for now that appears to just be the new homepage. They haven’t put the rebrand online fully and that’s why I asked the question of a time frame.
If I log in there it just takes me back here.
@vabeachcople, if you go to swing dot com you’ll see the new homepage.
I am sometimes now seeing the 4 colored peeps logo of SLS replaced with them all in gold and the word "Swing!" emblazoned over it. Not sure if this is a preview of what's to come.
@naughtyones, many are hopeful of a fresh, updated rebranded site. It would explain the lack of urgency to fix the persistent issues of the current incarnation. I really don’t see any point at all in simply slapping a new logo on this site. It would be nice to get a solid statement on it from the site owners though.
Is it just a rebrand or is a rebuild. Im guessing it will simply be a different name. When the site is considered to already be 98% trouble free, why would you change anything but the name!
I asked the question over a week ago and got no response
To moderators or admins: Has there been any time frame given as to when we can expect the rebrand to be completed? I think most can tolerate the message indicator being broke going on 3 months and the plethora of other issues if we all know the relaunch is coming by a certain point. It hives some type
Of light at the end of the tunnel outlook. Most would agree that it makes no sense wasting dev resources trying to limp along this site if new is on deck.
