Yeah a banner at the top telling people that the message counter is not working, and that they have to check messages manually would be nice.
Can you imagine being a new member to the site and thinking you don't have any messages and then realizing you have to check them manually all the time and think that's the way it always is, I would think the site really sucks and wouldn't renew my membership

Thank you for telling us that. At least we now know that problems are being addressed and will be resolved. Messages are our only way to communicate and have conversations. This is a very important part of any 'Social Media' platform.

<p>The Alerts system is working fine. It will have a number in a red circle indicating the number of unread alerts you have and the old "birdie" graphic will still show when you any unread alerts. The Messages tab unread mail counter was turned off to address an issue. It was initially showing "Undefined" or "0" and customers left us feedback that they did not like that, so our developers completely turned off the display of that information until it is updated.</p>
I thought the bird was just for Alerts, not Messages? Also, as far as I know, Alerts work fine. It's just Messaging that is broken. Alerts emails have actual paying customers, so if those were broken, they'd likely be more of a priority to fix ;-)
The gist of the difference between yesterday and today is that a red circle with a 0 was meaningless. Now it shows nothing for new Message notifications, but you could still have new messages.
@wayne lol let’s see if we got a grasp on this. The bubble saying 0 messages is not an accurate representation if you actually have messages. The bubble saying you do have new alerts is no longer an accurate representation if you actually have alerts, but the bird…the bird knows all so if you see a bird then you do have alerts?
Is there a reason for such a convoluted method of letting people know what’s going on with their account?

Since the red bubble is gone, I assumed that Messaging got fixed. Apparently it hasn't, but would prefer it the way it is now versus having a red bubble with a 0 in it, that also wasn't being updated. The red bubble was distracting.
Ditto on the banner idea, unless the fix is eminant.

Has that been communicated widely? Seems to be the perfect topic for a banner. I don't think most know that they're not being alerted to new messages via the red bubble.

So now the bird is back? And our message counter says 0 but that's just to throw us off the trail? We open it to see that we actually do have new messages? Or is the bird pointing at the messages to show the 0 can't be trusted and suggesting we open it?
