While not quite the same as Read Receipt, you can hover over a profile and it will tell you when they were last online. Given the purpose of the site, someone logging in and NOT reading their messages would seem "off". At a minimum, it does lean towards them not being very responsive.

It's likely that "No answer" is your answer. Not always though, as some couples both need to see and discuss any message before responding, but if it's been a week and they've been on every day since, it's a fairly safe bet you'll get no answer. Even the Read Receipt doesn't give you the full answer, however someone that is at least interested in you is less likely to leave you hanging like that.

If this happens to me, I'll usually tag the profile with a note saying, "Sent message on xx/xx/xx. " when I sent the message and after a while will add "Got no answer" to that note. Lets me know not to bother trying again.

"Changes" usually implies something new.

In my experience "new" and "improved" are most often mutually exclusive terms.

"New Coke" for example.

Yes Yes Yes!!!! I would LOVE to see this feature added!

" also think having a quick reply option where a user can click an icon that sends a message of something like: Thanks for message. Unfortunately this is not the right fit for us. "

That used to be a feature of the old email system. We used it quite a bit.

I've been on this site for more than 20 years.

Very few of the changes made have been improvements...

Well, there have been for the most part 19 suggestions since this topic was started and not even one response from anyone of the SLS Admin regarding the suggestions. Make you think they don't give a crap about what the people paying for the site want.

I like the read receipt option. I would also like the option to like that comment.

For us we see if the person has been on the entire week.. if so and no answer.. its good enough for us , tells us all we need to know!

We move on quickly and note profile and or if a guy block him, so we dont deal with those who have no manners.. not playing these games with so many on SLS!

Our time and playtime are valuable and we treat life that way..

My only big request would be some sort of notification that says whether or not a message that you have sent has been read or not. It would be nice to know if others have not gotten around to reading their messages or have just chosen not to respond. Would seem simple enough.

Some messages don’t deserve a reply. I’m against locking someone out of their account because they don’t respond to a rude first message.

We're hoping for no new site improvements based on our experience with prior site improvements.

Agreed. I remember those days. This is our third profile. Our first was created in 2003.

A while ago the SLS site was very unstable. This was especially so when the site was at it's busiest (i.e. Fri, Sat). Behind the scenes, the code does polling, meaning it occasionally checks for an event. This process can be very resource intensive and polling was turned off for checking for new Messages to make the site more stable.

As a result of polling being turned off, you only see new Messages when you log in or if you click on the Messages button. In other words, once you're logged in, it will not show you a new Message automatically. I'd like to see this fixed.

Once upon a time when IM and EMail existed and were separate, if you got a new IM it would trigger an audible alarm to let you know you got a new IM message. I'd love to see that come back for the current Messaging system, but I'll not be holding my breath for any of these changes.

Another recommendation. I just saw a picture to approve that was of the golf influencer Grace Charis. Although it is possible it is really her, it is unlikely. We should have a button to click for celebrity which would then get further review by staff to verify the validity of the picture with the profile.

A flirt option would be nice. A competitive web site has that and it works well for opening the door for possible further contact without having to write a message.

EastSideandBi - " I think having blocking an account counting as a reply would help."

Except that I wouldn't want to promote an additional reason for someone to block others. This would just be a dfferent way it could backfire.

You'd go from a lack of response to no reponse is possible. While you can always unblock someone, once I block someone for any reason, it would be extremely unlikely that I would ever go back and revisit that.

2much, you are probably right. It is nice to dream though :)

Wishing for a culture of civility on the interwebs seems unrealistic IMHO.

Suggesting improvements on the site?

How quaint...

Also, how about being able to like someone’s comment in the forum? That seems like it would be a nice addition.

Mayhem,

That is fair. I think having blocking an account counting as a reply would help. Because yes, there are profiles out there that do not read profiles or take into consideration preferences. I also think having a quick reply option where a user can click an icon that sends a message of something like: Thanks for message. Unfortunately this is not the right fit for us.

Since I make a fair bit of use of the forums, I'd like the Search improved for that. Ideally, I'd like to be able to apply a search term/s to just the Topic titles. The way it is now is kind of useless and helps foster dupicate topics because people can't find what they are looking for.

The other change would be to simply switch the word bi-curious with the word bi-situational for preferences. This has already been discussed in another topic as to the reasons.

As far as locking an account for not responding to a Message under the idea of "civility", I can almost guarantee that would backfire. First off, you shouldn't be required to respond to anyone, and especially from persons that very obviously did not meet your criteria (i.e. No SMs). The first time someone gets locked out it's very likely the profile connected to the message that caused that will get a reply that is about as far from civil as possible. They'll likely wish they had simply gotten no reponse at all.

If you had the power to change one or two things on this site, what would it be? SLS is already working on the age auto updating. What else would you change? The top two I would change are:

  1. Making a specific guideline in the picture approval that public face pics of a couple, or more, cannot be tied to a singles profile. For me, it’s about consent. It is reasonable to say that the other person in the public photo on the singles account is neither aware nor consenting to their image being on a swingers profile.
  2. I would creat a rule that if you log into SLS three time without replying to a first time message from a profile that your account is locked until you reply. Rule would not apply to any other messages from that profile, just the first one. No rule on what has to be said; you could simply type no or block the account. SLS could even create a quick rejection reply to select. In a world where ghosting, ignoring, and quiet quitting has become a thing, SLS could do something to push back and create a culture of civility.
