How about adding the 'viewed profile' feature other sites have? It's good for a subtle 'icebreaker'. : )
Member Interest Levels
We love this feature! We wanted the ability to hide those we are not interested in and know we would never be interested in so we didn't have to sit through them over and over!. Thank you!!!!
It's a great feature! It would be much more useful, however, with:
- The ability to search by star rating or minimum star rating
- The ability to sort searches by star rating, ideally by star rating, then distance
that like button on facebook wouldn't be so popular
A "like" button here would just make it easy for lazy people. How many people on Facebook just click "like" for every post someone makes. "I got a new job." Like. "I had a bagel for lunch." Like. " I pooped today." Like. " I tripped and fell down a mineshaft and a rabid flying snake ate my face off." Like. No thought involved.
Be honest... You know that thousands of single guys go through and "like" EVERY DAMN SINGLE FEMALE AND COUPLE PROFILE they find, just to get a hit. They wouldn't read profiles (beyond maybe the main photos) to see if there's a match, they would just click, click, click. You click a hundred times a day, seven days a week, and if anybody writes back, THEN you read their profile and see if there's real interest or a real match. Before anyone bitches that I'm singling out single guys, yes, couples and women would do the same, but let's be honest about who would start flooding the site.
From the other side, can you imagine a hot unicorn getting hit with several hundred "likes" a day? Who has time to respond to, or even look at that many? It all just becomes noise, and they end up ignoring them completely.
Anything worthwhile in life takes some effort, and that includes getting laid.
Now, if SLS has a canned introduction email (like the canned "thanks, but no thanks" responses) that gives you options like "You look interesting. Would you like to chat?" or "Your photos are hot" or "We're in the same area, would you like to meet?" then that might work. It's not much more work than a "like" button, but it at least requires SOME thought and effort.

tablefor3, if email was such a good replacement, that like button on facebook wouldn't be so popular
The member interest level is not sent on to the other user at all. It is used for your purposes only.
So we are new to this. How do we use the stars? Are they used to indicate to a specific person how interested we are in them in particular or to all members? Confused
To be able to search members by their star ratings would make the site so much more useful. It would enable us to keep track of members who we have had correspondence with and who we plan on meeting. Any idea when the search feature is going to be implemented?
How can I get back to my old messages
Ynotplay,
"Allow the user to click a button and transmit interest level to other party, if desired."
It already exists on SLS as mail. Use it when you find a profile that sparks your interest, and your interest will be immediately transmitted to the other party. :)
Allow the user to click a button and transmit interest level to other party, if desired.
Please add a feature to Search that the searcher's age matches the age parameter of those selected as matches. Thank you.
here is what we found today.
If editing a search with "hide no interest" checked then clicking save and search. the search doesnt show people we are not interested in.
If we go back to saved searches and click on the previousely saved search, people we are not interested in are shown.
justinpa there is an option under search to not show those you have marked as not interested. But it is only open to paying members.
When is it going to work?
Any idea when the not interested function will work in searches?
maybe a star rating could be seen by people that you want to show an interest for.
What good is it? There is nowhere I can view my interest list... so the only time I can see if I am interested is if I click on the profile.
Unless it creates a list or sends a notice to the viewees, it is simply worthless clutter on the page.
The number of days is how many days ago the message was posted on. These ideas are just that, ideas posted by the members for the website owners/managers to give them ideas to help make the site better.
New feature ? I haven't seen or heard of any new feature? I went to the beginning of this post it was 938 days ago ? thats over 2 yrs isn't it ?or is this more of SLS counting ? like the number of views on your profile ? or the 11 thousand new members this week on the quick stats on the home page ?
Will this enable me to see who would have an interest in me, and if so when will it go into effect?
We are a little confused about how this feature is going to work. Is this a tool for us to track our own interest in other profiles? Is it a feature that will allow us to see others interest in us? Maybe both? Will we be able to search for these ratings? Is there a place we should be looking for the answers to this questions? We are pretty new to this site and have enjoyed our time here so far. Thank you.
We think that it would be great to have a simple rating system in place, similar to eBay's feedback system.
In an unrelated issue, it would be time to re-vamp the 1990 looking interface of the SLS website, especially the Email section (opened, replied, stored, etc.). For one, why isn't the latest message on top? Why do we have to scroll down half a mile to get to it?
i think what a lot of people are looking for is a simple one click button to get the ball rolling and express an interest in a profile
it sucks to write up an interesting and meaningful email and then get no reply or it goes unread forever...
a simple click to say hey, we saw, we liked, makes it easier...
because we live in a lazy, instant grafication world now....
