I am happy to see the bird back.
Bye Bye Birdie

Yes, the number of people online could have and effect on performance. Are you noticing more issues in the evening when more people are online? It is something I can look into.

@Wayne
Does user volume cause site idiosyncrasies? I’ve noticed when the number of people who are online goes up there are glitches.
It's the weekend. Strange things happen more frequently on this site on weekends.
Definitely not getting the bird in real time on my phone using the website.
Several times today I have been on the site and in the messages section with no indication of a message. It's not until I move to a different section of the website (forums, home page etc) that I see the bird and the indicator that I have multiple messages. If this happened once I'd chalk it up to coincidence of me getting the message at the moment i switched pages. But it's happened at lease 4-5 times this morning so I doubt I'm that much of a statistical anomaly.
The notification now seems to work for any new message. Thanks.

Should be corrected now.

We are aware and are working to fix it.

The bird says I have a new message but I can’t open it.
Yesterday, I had two conversations with other members. Both were new messages within an existing conversation.
One consistently gave a red 1 notification every time a new message came in. The other consistently did not.
Just what I'm seeing.

The unread message notification works in real-time. We updated that months ago. It works for all unread messages. NOTE: It counts unread messages, not new messages. Those generally can be thought of as the same, but not always.

We did have a couple of issues this past week:

We made some updates due to a spammer. That caused the real-time unread notification to stop working. That was corrected yesterday. Due to an SSL certificate issue and human error, the IM socket system was down Sunday night and Monday morning. We did not get a notification because the server and webpage were 100% operational. The Webpage was correctly showing "Reconnecting". The notification system has been updated so if something like that happens again, a developer should be notified within minutes.

Interesting.
The new message notification works, but only for new messages from certain people.
We’re only seeing new messages/birdie when we open the actual messages page now so something is screwed up again.
Well hello beautiful lady. Haven't seen you around for awhile. I figured you were probably tied up.
Considering the distance that some of the SM messages come from, they're willing to travel.
:-)
Hey Good! You’re getting messages from SMs? You say that like it’s a bad thing. Send them my way. ;-)
How ya been? It’s been a minute. XO
~LMK~
This is the lowest effort run website that I have ever been part of. The only thing that falls short of it is the app!
Really makes you feel good for springing for that lifetime membership ??
On the bright side, we don't have to respond to the "reloading" messages from the SMs that were there when we last logged on.
Still happening on my end. Didn’t start until around 8PM or so. Thought they would’ve said something about it on the Home Screen.
I'm new here. Messages are gone. "Reconnecting"
Sorry I meant Messages is DEAD
Mail is DEAD as of this posting
The messages are with the mail and the stories. Everything will be “fine” because the developers are working on it. That “might” have been sarcasm.
It just spins and says "reconnecting".
No mail at the moment
Same. Just says connecting in Messages
Now my messages aren't working at all. It just spins and says "reconnecting".
