@Marion

Dude. Again. You have an answer in your head and ignore all the relevant data that disproves your opinion. Your opinion is not a fact.

Resources?

PLEASE, tell me what RESOURCES we are scarce of.

Oil? We are a net exporter.

Food? Are you fucking kidding me? We are a net exporter.

Water? Ok, you may have me there, but that is more regional than the country.

Infrastructure? Not trying to be an asshole, but what infrastructure do you have knowledge of other than where you live? Let's see, I just did 1800+ miles in CA and some of it into lower Oregon. What did I see? As soon as I crossed into CA on the 199 from Oregon it was a complete stop. Why? Because there is massive infrastructure work going on. It went to one lane and it was scheduled going North to South and South to North. What did I see in Oregon? More road work. It's amazing what happens when DEMS get into office and push money into infrastructure. Shit starts to happen! Are you saying that we do not have enough PUBLIC working people? You know, like IRS agents, Cops, Border Patrol, Scientists at the FDA, Food inspectors, etc.? Yup! I'd agree with you there. That can be solved by . . . wait for it . . . IMMIGRATION. If this is not the infrastructure issue, then what is?

There is no war on coal as you portray it. There has always been a war on COSTS. That war is run by capitalism. COAL fucking lost. It is more expensive than NatGas or other solutions. For a person who screams that they are anti-socialist, you really have a lot of socialist thoughts. Capitalism is the race to zero on costs and to infinity on profits.

Supply chain issues? Yeah, that is working itself out. You can thank Dell and Toyota for most of the problems. They perfected just in time manufacturing. The problem with that is that no one holds inventory. So if there is excess demand, there is no new capacity to make shit. One kink in the chain and it can fuck things up. Hell, you can also fucking blame CRYPTO! Those capitalistic mother fuckers. They increased demand for certain chips that were more profitable for the chip makers so they stopped making the cheap ass shit with excess capacity in the plant. That created more problems in the chain than you can fathom.

The 280 . . . DUDE. STOP LIVING THE LIFE OF FEAR. It's much better if you live a life without it.

EA: your natural resources reply is the stupidest thing I've seen this month. I said RESOURCES, not room pitch a tent. Our infrastructure is EXTREMELY strained right now. Especially with the war on coal preventing a large number of power plants to run as efficiently as possible. Oh... and let's not forget all the food these people are going to consume. Seems we're barely out of the supply chain issues that caused roughly 30% of grocery store orders to go unfilled. But let's add 8 million people to the country in the last 3 years, no prob.

I believe the newest count was 280ish individuals detained trying to cross the border, who were on the terrorist watch list. That's the ones that got caught, so... the stupid ones. New poll released said something like 60% of Muslims in the CONUS support Hezbollah. Couple that with the sleeper cells we all know are already operational in the states... nothing to see here.

@2out

Yup, 940 sq ft. per person.

That is a 2 bedroom apartment in most cities.

Now, imagine if you had a 1500 sq ft house housing 4 or 5. You'd be able to have a yard as well.

So 940 sq ft per person is a little more than a 30' x 30' space per person. If your farts can be smelled that far away . . . wtf are you eating? :)

But the point still stands. You can fit the world in Texas.

Hong Kong has ~64,000 people per square mile. (IIRC that is what it was in 02 when I was there)

Putting the world in Texas it would not even be half as dense as Hong Kong. And Hong Kong iirc is close to the bottom of the top 10 in density.

@EA... I asked if either of you even knew about CBP One. What did I get? CRICKETS. Why? Because it goes against the answer you have in your mind.

NO. You got crickets because I was working all day and didn't feel the need to stop just to answer your question. Another reason is because I"M NOT TALKING ABOUT PEOPLE FLYING IN. Last I checked we were talking about that border thing. Ya know. The one between us and Mexico. Ya know the one where a wall is wanted to go. Additionally. Thanks for the explanation of cpb one. I didn't ask for it NOR DID I NEED IT. It's not relevant to my discussion. I realize though that you can't help yourself. You just gotta drag the argument onto a playing field that you like better.

As for the US being a nation of immigrants. All I can say is NO FUCKING SHIT! Thank you though for that mind blowing piece of knowledge.

0.00003375 sq. miles each

Good Lord. If 10 people farted you could clear out El Paso.

@Marion

The reason the conversation is going nowhere is because there is one side that has a disconnect from reality. There is a side that has no memory of history as well. Then there is a side that looks at the data, looks at the history, and looks at the results.

I asked if either of you even knew about CBP One. What did I get? CRICKETS. Why? Because it goes against the answer you have in your mind. Here is how CBP One works. A person who wants to immigrate to the US gets a mobile application. They apply. Depending on where they are and some other minor shit, they can FLY into the US. Yes, you read that correctly, FLY. More immigrants are FLYING into the US than crossing the border. These are asylum seekers.

Your lack of knowledge of history is interesting. This country is seriously an immigrant country. It was founded by immigrants, then had a bunch of immigrants come in since its inception. There have been those who have been here before another wave of immigrants and taken your belief of oversaturation, etc., and been proven wrong: Always.

The natural resources argument is comical. It is one that when data is presented is defeated. Here, let's have some fun. There are 8bn people in the world. Texas is roughly 270k sq miles. How much space can each person have if they lived in Texas? Yes, the WHOLE WORLD's population. Pretty much the only resource you can see go away is fish.

Hamilton, AL, Us

@EA: this discussion is going nowhere. And hell, maybe I'm wrong, I know I'd like to be wrong. Hell, I'd love to be wrong. But I don't believe I am.

Of course, hindsight is 20/20 & we will both be long dead before the actual cost of importing hundreds of thousands of non English speaking, not drivers license, insurance, tag having individuals have on our economy & natural resources. Until then, I'll just go about my day and start towing every fucking one I can.

While that may sound trivial, it's not. Usually* we allow someone with no drivers license to call someone with license to drive the vehicle from the stop or we make an exception & allow the person to drive off after the citation. But, given it long talks about immigration reform, I agree.... nobody is going to fix the problem. So, if they can walk across the border,they can walk their ass to work.

@2out and @Marion

I am back from a 1800 mile road trip. Probably the last major trip of the year! Lassen National Park, Crater Lake National Park, the Redwoods, and then Pinnacle National Park.

While I was a passenger, my wife drove all of this except 80 miles, I looked and saw Amtrak next to me. I don't know what made me think about it, but IIRC, there are half a dozen or so rail lines that cross the southern border. It made me think that the simplistic and what I, and a lot of others feel is an impossible, concept that both of you have to 'just close it all down,' is really accurate.

How do you close the border down? You both keep saying it as if it is easy AF. HOW? How do you close it down? You have gaps where the border butts up against private property. You have gaps where the border butts up against Indian land. You have gaps where the rail lines are. You have gaps where geography is an issue. So again . . . how do you accomplish this?

I was also thinking that you guys really have an ulterior motive or are being 'programmed' by people who have an agenda that they are not sharing with you. Are you even familiar with CBP One? This is a BIDEN program. Are you ready to give him credit or just want to bash?

LMAO 2OUT Good one

Montpelier, OH, Us

@ea. Pt. 1...I agree with everything you posted. Seriously I do. Sure I would debate little items but on the whole, you're ideas are likely valid points for immigration reform The problem is that it is a version of the very thing that has been going on for how long now? Everybody has ideas (good and bad). Congress just debates endlessly and nothing gets done. All of your ideas are simply more items for them to debate. (even if they are good)

Pt 2... I have never argued that we don't need immigration reform. Actually I have said just the opposite. WE FUCKIN NEED IT! Because yes we do need immigrants. What we don't fuckin need is what we have RIGHT NOW! To damn many to damn fast with no end in sight. Call it overran, overwhelmed, flooded, inundated, or whatever term you prefer. That's what is happening RIGHT NOW.

Pt 3... My suggestion is pretty simple. Shut the fucker down hard. Then you and the rest of the debate teams can do your part and come up with all the fancy reform parts. When your all done. Then we open things back up in a manner that can be managed.

Pt 4... Ya ya I know. Can't do it because if this law or the constitution, or whatever. You are definitely the man of "cant's". (you would suck as a contractor.) In reality. I think you just have a disdain for simplicity. Which is fine. I'll do the simple part. Declare a national emergency under whatever pretense you can dream up. I'll shut border down and build a wall, barrier, whatever and enforce it. Then you can go argue laws and options until your blue in the face. When you suits are all done bickering. I'll open the gates for ya. Ya see. It's not that complicated.

Pt 5... Haha. There really isn't a 5. I just wanted one more than you.

Hamilton, AL, Us

And in order to do it period, we need to turn them around at the border.

@PHX

Thanks. I didn't take it as an insult, I did take it as a compliment. If you look at @One's and my idea, it is really similar. He wants it remote and I don't think it is possible and I listed the reasons why. But essentially, he wants the process done QUICKLY like I do.

Now I doubt EROTIC will consider this a compliment but it kind of is. I will typically read say 90% of the posts even the long ones. EROTIC reminds me of the quintessential unelected bureaucrat (local, state, fed). Knows what is best for the people and can't be dissuaded from his position. You may not agree, and I typically don't but the dude has conviction of HIS beliefs. Now I think I have to put the smiley face, so no one is offended.

:-)

On the other hand, I think @ONEHELL had a pretty good idea about filing from your country of origin for asylum. LOL but the bureaucracy can't support that it might put too many of them out of a job. GASP!!

"Thank Zeus that EA can't upload power point presentations.."

ROFL. That is actually a very funny point. I had to give a presentation on a piece of software as a tool. The presentation was going to be given in 45 minutes. The maker of the software, via zoom, actually watched me put together a 25 slide presentation with graphics in 40 minutes off the cuff. Then give a 40 minute presentation on the software. They offered me a job on the spot.

Creating content is something that I can do very fast.

Thank Zeus that EA can't upload power point presentations..

@hump

Nope.

Unfortunately or fortunately, it depends on how you see things. I earn a living sitting in front of a computer. I am hired to make shit work for enterprises. I write software that handles the automation of processes. Sometimes I have a LOT of free time. Sometimes I am swamped. When I need a break from my work, I open a new tab and type. I have put 18-20 hour days in my Herman Miller Embody chair. That chair has saved my back and it was worth the money.

@Onehorney

"Do you not sleep? You must be up half the night researching and writing all the stuff you respond with."

Sleep has been an issue since I was 14. I took a job working at a hardware store. I worked from 6am until 11:30am five days a week and then had one Saturday off. The store was located in a small strip shopping center where my bus stop was at the other end. I went to school from 12:30 to 6:04pm. I'd get home and stay up until midnight/1pm. Since then, I have basically gone with about 4 to 5 hours of sleep per night. Then somewhere around 10 to 16 weeks later, I will pass out for 10 hours. Ironically, yesterday I was meeting for 2 hours with Pulmonary doctors. It was lung tests and going over sleep. I wear an Oura ring and went over the data with them. They had a concern that I was not getting enough deep sleep. They are lightly pushing sleeping pills to me. They know I really do not want to take them.

In a weird irony, my first class was Typing. You guys see a long wall of text and probably think it took me a long time. It doesn't. I could never approach the speed in which my mother typed, 120 words a minute, but could hang in the low 100s. Now, I am a little slower and can type around 80ish. Researching . . . not really. Most of this I know, and if I have to research it is just to find a quick link to support the position. Considering I read about 350 to 400 words a minute, it does not take me much time to read the article to see if it supports the position.

When I write, I also have something going on in the background. I am either listening to something of interest or music. If it is music, chances are I will be typing even faster as it gives me energy.

@2much

I don't care if there is a scroll bar. If someone asks a question, chances are I will answer it. I had enough English classes to have had to only take 2 more and I could have gotten a degree in English as well. There has been enough on this subject and @2out and @Marion have kept trying to put words in my mouth. Now there is the response. If they choose to not read, that is their call. However, if they bitch, I will just point them there.

I've said it before... once you type so many words that you generate a scroll bar on your post most people won't read it.
