Bipartisanship Experiment

Windermere, FL, Us

[I once started a thread called something like "Criticize your own party". Unfortunately, most people made poor attempts to actually do, such as "Democrats don't show everyone how much Republicans suck enough!"]

Since I don't know which side is the "opposing" side (I find myself more often than not opposing both parties), I'll have to do some of each. Back in time and moving forward, and avoiding obvious things like the Civil War. I'm going to stick with just presidents for now. Certainly doesn't mean everything about these presidents is awesome, just some specifics, varying widely in scope.

Democrat: Grover Cleveland was possibly the only president who actively worked to reduce the scope of the power of the presidency and consistently resist the neverending expansion of the federal government.

Republican: Teddy Roosevelt, who taught people to dream big about what this country can accomplish and to appreciate its natural beauty

Democrat: Harry Truman, who had the ballsack to do what needed to be done to end WW2

Republican/Democrat: Eisenhower then Kennedy, for spearheading the drive for the space program

Republican: Nixon, for his inroads in foreign relations with countries previously considered inaccessible.

Democrat: Obama, early in his term, had a few good foreign policy moves which showed that he wasn't the wuss Republicans tried to paint him as. Remember the Maersk kidnapping almost at the beginning of his term? He upheld the American policy of never granting hijackers their demands. Are you going to let him go? No? Ok. Pow pow pow. Done.

Wow, Erotic agreed with and recognized an opinion by Sugars......

I'll keep gathering more info for my experiment. Thanks to both of you gentlemen for participating.

My point is on the pillars of conservatism.. As of now the republican party is the white jesus club - that by definition is bad.

Here let me ask this: what is more important for you.. Individual rights or common good?

@Sugars

Wow, you actually brought up a point and it had substance to it. I like it and the point. I would just differ on one point. You could say almost all of the media and a very few of the scholars. Scholars tend to agree a LOT more on things. Media tends to play to ratings to play to advertisers who fund them.

Sar, don't go all social justice warrior on me. That sentence was meant to be a joke. But I followed it with, "So sure, I could see that as a possibility." You couldn't get untriggered enough to read the rest of the response?

@sar, I sure as hell hope not.
Like Mario said, we already had a dem muslim and we all know how that worked out. We sure as hell don't need another.

Ooo.. Look you had to use the fake news conspiracies right.. Lol... You cant even hold a conversation without distorting the reality... Is Obama muslim? Wanna talk about the birthcertificate? He is dem am asking for republican?

Sugars..... Nail on the head. But the experiment went much further in depth than that.

Sar..... I have no idea. We have already had a Democrat, mulatto, Muslim as president. So sure, I could see that as a possibility. What is your point?

How this experiment can be very thought provoking, the underlying problem with getting serious thought and responses is the fact that most people "and, this includes me" have a tendency to see their party in a favorable light and not see their shortcomings. On the other side, people see the opposing party in such an unfavorable light that they see only the shortcomings and ignore their good policies.
So many people these days follow and believe only what the news media and "scholars" have to say and don't spend any time actually researching the facts and applying and serious individual thought to the matters at hand.

Ok let me prove you wrong: do you think that we will ever see a Republican president who is Muslim?

mario609Veteran

On several points, YES, you are wrong.

Am I wrong?

And that my friends is what has led to such division in this country and gave us Trump.

I tell you what.. The conservatism in this country has 3 pillars.. none of which is good for the country: Corporations/Banks, Gunz, and Jesus.

Here is why:

Corporations dont care about small business.. They actually destroy it. Never trickle down but pocketed the "cut" went on to buy backs. Now you have Amazon with $1T and workers on welfare. Banks steal your money and get away with it since they are too big to fail.

Loose gunz laws = mass shoogings and people die.

Jesus is exclusive by definition, everyone not in Jesus club is the enemy.

Sar... Thank you so much for you input in this experiment. As usual, you did not disappoint. I was actually counting on you and you come through with flying colors.

Well if you are republican they are all good or they dont matter, to own the libs they are good, to win elections they are good.

mario609Veteran

Sar, so you think that the Patriot Act, trillion dollar deficit, predatory loans and voter suppression are all good? Or are you trying to make a sarcastic comment that they are all bad and all the doing of whom? The Republicans?

I dont get it... all the things I posted are good..

@JUSTUS

You are really ignorant.

Trump can not do that.

Impossible.

Why? He is not a dictator . . . or is he?

Congress is OUT of session until after the election.

Damn man . . . you are ignorant to reality and just believe anything out of that man's mouth.

Hilliard, OH, Us

Mario, wow, that far back? OK.

Andrew Jackson, abolished the first federal reserve.

I'm using Teddy Roosevelt, he started republican then went progressive. The national park system.

John F. Kennedy, massive tax cut, and he wanted to spill the beans on the Illuminati globalist conspiracy, which is why they whacked him.

LBJ, the civil rights act, but he couldn't have done it without republicans. Most of his fellow democrats voted against it.

Bill Clinton, he was the ultimate pragmatist. During his administration was when the government actually worked well. He lost the congress, but he made deals with Newt Gingrich. Lots of good stuff happened through Newt giving Bill some of what he wanted, and Bill giving Newt some of what he wanted.

With Obama's blessing, Eric Holder cracked down on the disgusting practice of Civil Asset Forfeiture, removing the federal assistance in that form of robbery, which shocked the hell out of me. That's all I have for those 8 years, the rest of it was pure hell.

SAR is the best advocate for One Party Mob Rule. Maybe we could bring Obama back and dress him like Putin then all our problems would magically disappear.
