WTF

Does anyone else here get AARP emails? The last one I got was kind of a WTF. The title of one article was "11 Products Getting More Expensive in 2026". It starts off like this -

"First, the good news: price increases are cooling overall. The inflation rate notched 2.7 percent for the 12 months ending December 2025, down from 3 percent year-over-year in September 2025, according to the latest figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.?

Now, the bad news: Some products are predicted to get more expensive this year — much more expensive, in some instances."

Then it goes on to say expect to pay more for Health Insurance, Utilities, Groceries, Auto and Home Insurance, Clothes and Footwear, Smartphones and Computers, Jewelry, and Shipping, but inflation is at 2.7%. Yeah, sure it is. I wonder if anyone at AARP read this and thought, "What was the good news again?".

It's a direct copy-paste from a New York Post article, so any goofiness is from them.

It's only because I have a 3 year old granddaughter that I know who Ms. Rachel is...

YouTube’s top toddler whisperer, Ms. Rachel, should be investigated over whether she’s being paid to spread Hamas-aligned propaganda for her posts about the deaths of kids in Gaza, a major antisemitism group tells Attorney General Pam Bondi.

Ms. Rachel, real name Rachel Griffin Accurso, has become the modern equivalent of Mister Rogers, educating and entertaining millions of young kids with her “Songs for Littles” streaming shows — which have been viewed more than 10 billion times.

But the Jewish civil rights watchdog group StopAntisemitism said Ms. Rachel is not so sweet.

StopAntisemitism takes issue with multiple posts Ms. Rachel made about the condition of children in the Gaza Strip during the war, alleging that the content is either debunked or disputed by Israel.

The group says the posts are anti-Israel and are meant to inspire pro-Hamas sympathies among young kids.

“Given the vast sums of foreign funds that have been directed toward propagandizing our young people on college campuses, we suspect there is a similar dynamic in the online influencer space,” StopAntisemitism director Liora Rez said in a letter sent Monday to Bondi.

“We urge you and your office to investigate whether or not Ms. Rachel is being remunerated to disseminate Hamas-aligned propaganda to her millions of followers, as this may violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA),” Rez said.

In the letter to Bondi, the group said Ms. Rachel, who once focused solely on catering to children, has been “incorporating Hamas-like propagated images and stories into her content.”

MILWAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. —
A former Milwaukee County Transit System bus driver who is accused of hitting and killing a pedestrian in Greenfield is now accused of being drunk at the time.

Prosecutors have charged Dameon Peters with homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.

Peters was fired last month after the crash that killed 61-year-old George Kayser near 56th Street and Forest Home Avenue on Nov. 22.

Toxicology reports reveal Peters had a BAC of 0.236, according to the criminal complaint.

The complaint says the MCTS video shows at 6:47 p.m. on Nov. 22, Kayser was walking from 56th Street and crossing Forest Home Avenue. At this time, the internal bus video shows Peters "blinking, slowly closing his eyes, squinting, then blinking, eyes barely look open, squinting, eyes slowly appear to close, squinting to the point that his eyes almost look closed."

BROWN DEER, Wis. —
The holidays just got a little bit happier for some Wisconsin lottery players.

Tuesday, the Wisconsin Lottery announced four big winners in Monday night's drawing.

Somebody purchased a $1,000,000 ticket at the Brown Deer Walmart store.

The winner matched five of the winning numbers, but missed the Powerball number.

Monday night's winning numbers were 3-18-36-41-54. The Powerball was 7.

Nobody matched every number, so the Powerball jackpot for Wednesday's drawing grows to $1.7 billion. That's the fourth-largest in the game's history.

A crazed Florida divorcee was thrown behind bars after allegedly gunning down both of her ex-husbands in separate broad-daylight shootings on the same day, police said.

Susan Avalon, 48, was cuffed Wednesday and slapped with murder charges after blasting one ex-hubby with bullets in Tampa, then traveling more than 50 miles to Manatee County to fatally shoot the other later that day around 3 p.m., according to Manatee County Sheriff Rick Wells.

Investigators said Avalon was embroiled in bitter custody battles with her former spouses, which they believe may have sparked the cold-blooded killings.

A former garbage truck driver in Buffalo, New York, has learned her fate for "recklessly" backing her vehicle up and striking a teenage boy, severely injuring him.

Sasiya Davis-Johnson, 48, was sentenced on Thursday to three years of probation after pleading guilty in October to third-degree assault and reckless driving, both misdemeanors. She faced up to 364 days in jail, the Erie County District Attorney's

On Oct. 2, 2024, Davis-Johnson was driving a Buffalo Department of Public Works garbage truck at approximately 8:16 a.m. near the intersection of Rhode Island Street and 14th Street as children across the city were either in or headed to school.

One such student was a 17-year-old boy crossing Rhode Island Street, the DA's office said. At the same time, Davis-Johnson "recklessly drove the garbage truck by placing the vehicle in reverse and moving in the wrong direction" on the one-way street.

The garbage truck hit the pedestrian, and authorities said Davis-Johnson "recklessly caused physical injuries" to the boy. Fourteen months later, he remains in the hospital, is paralyzed from the waist down, has had a leg amputated and has undergone more than 30 surgeries, his attorney, Charles Desmond, said, per local ABC affiliate WKBW.

"This is a 60,000-pound truck that ran him over and then went forward, ran him over again," Desmond told reporters, per WKBW.

Details of what led to Moore's arrest were presented during a hearing at Washtenaw County court on Friday, Dec. 12. There’s more to it than that though.
Culture and access w/o training or basic checks.

I’m speaking as someone who was taught to ping cans at 6 by her father, had a shotgun leveled at her at 14 for knocking on the wrong door in the Allegheny Mountains, had someone let off a shot in a bar (hit a payphone, remember those?), another person tried to rob me in the TSQ subway ( at that point I was the crazy person), and had a car full of kids pull a gun because I gave them the finger. They deserved the finger imo.

They’re too easily accessed by irresponsible people. I’m comfortable around handguns and still an excellent shot but not interested enough to toss lives away over it.

If I need to hurt someone, I’ll hurt their feelings.
