More of a "HOLY COW" than WTF.... I went to thee local sports show yesterday afternoon. A combination of just something to do and talking to whatever kennels/breeders/trainers were there to see about upcoming litters being as I'm in the market for a dog a bit sooner than expected. Anyway...
...I wasn't too shocked at the price increases for a thoroughbred dog with a great pedigree but the prices for new boats, campers, ATV's etc,, etc. was a different story.
I'm not in the market for any of those, but damn, $45K for a boat similar to my 17' fishing boat, or $12K for an ATV similar to one of 2 that we have (paid less than $2,000 new for ours and it currently has <2,000 miles on it), or $23K more than a similar. 5 YO, almost mint condition/used camper I bought last fall sure made me happy I didn't need any of those.
All of those were "Show Special" prices. Maybe some of the components of those things were imported (like the Yamaha motor on the boat) , but the ATV and boat were made in Minnesota and the camper was made in the US too.
More dog info please. What breeds, what sort of cost?
A Labrador Retriever.
Specifically, a yellow female with "field lines" as opposed to "show lines".
That kind of depends on an interpretation of filed vs. show. In the US show lines have typically broader/blockier looking heads and builds to general to comply more with AKC standards for the breed. The more "British" lineage have a less "blocky/broader look, usually a bit smaller than "American/show lines" and some people refer to them as "field lines".
Looks like the current price for a good pedigree from a reputable breeder is over $2,000 for a puppy. That usually includes their puppy shots and dew claw removal.
"Started dogs", meaning about 1 YO and having had obedience and some field/specialized training would be about $4,000+ depending on how good the breeder thinks they are for the job they're being trained for.
I've had black labs but seeing/keeping an eye on them at night when they're running around on my rural properties, without yard/city lights is like trying to keep track of a Ninja. You never know they're there until they "attack" and you trip over them. :-)
