Having lived in Alaska, if I remember correctly, during most bear attacks, the bears were not quick about it. They tended to leisurely munch on the tasty bits knowing that their victims wouldn’t be running much with half a leg missing.
You're actually missing the point. Which is that the probability of death by bear is, to many women, preferable to the potential for various harms, including death, that one courts when meeting a man out in the woods.
At least the bear will be quick about it.
I haven't heard of this but I'm guessing that the person who started it and most of the women responding have never actually been in the woods let alone seen a bear up close and personal like with no bars separating them.
Which means- I believe more women would state they would rather come across a bear.
