We tried with a 3-month membership, and have done that for the last 2 years or so, because we didn't know how successful we'd be in the site or much we'd like it.
I love the forums and chatting with people from all over, regardless of whether well every meet. We've had some success in meeting people we connect with, and a tiny number of mean people, but overall are happy enough to just go with lifetime, since I know I'll be here for a while.
Overall, it's better than the other sites I've been on.
The Great Crappening
"The lifetime membership has always been, at least to me, the problem with this site."
That was my gut instinct, but then I did some digging. My opinion changed. Think of the website as more of a loss-leader for the Bliss Cruises and it suddenly snapped into focus.
Great, now Mark is going to be some kinda pissed when he searches for "Sphincter Plate Grub" and can’t find the site... Mayhem, maybe you could explain it to him in a nice way like last time. I can’t get the sound of Foghorn Leghorn’s voice out of my head for some reason.
DB, don’t piss off the server. They’ll spit in your food every time.

Apparently, mentioning other sites is not nearly as egregious as commenting on the host.
I just had to stand in the corner for a few days for making a joke about the server in another thread.
The lifetime membership has always been, at least to me, the problem with this site. It’s not re-occurring income. It comes in and probably goes out immediately in expenses. This site is almost like a pyramid scheme in that you constantly need new ‘lifetime’ members to pay for the previous. I don’t know what the % of monthly users are but I doubt it’s a huge number. Monthly users are re-occurring income. I know some other sites have annual memberships. I know KatCity for a while was offering a lifetime membership as a way to try and entice users out here in areas without a large presence.
Regional differences can be huge. When we signed up for the previously mentioned site that rhymes "Sphincter Plate Grub" we paid for a several months, or might have been a year, of membership, only to find out when we searched for couples in our area, that there was not a single couple listed between Vancouver Canada and Portland Oregon. That was five years ago and might have changed since, but was pretty dismal. To their credit, their customer service department gave us a full refund when we pointed out that this situation was unacceptable.
A free introductory membership on another startup that rhymes with "Trouble State Station" turned up about two or three dozen couples in the same region. Have not checked back in on that one in the last 15 months or so.
I worried, because I had JUST paid for our lifetime membership less than a week before.
Dang it, this has one of my favorite passwords on it!
The spam at the Kat place is annoying but we have engaged with a hell of a lot more people there....I was going to say in recent years but "ever" is a better description...on that site than this one. For whatever reasons.
I don't know about anywhere else but the effort local members put into profiles on the "Towns" site is....well... let's just say it gives you the impression that a lot of these folks probably fix their roofs with blue tarps.
@Tall - In the immortal words of Foghorn Leghorn, "It's a joke son"
Who the fuck is sydney university??? wtf would they learn from my pics? girls are prettier than boys.....
Pining for the fjords....
Swappernet never really died, it just transitioned to the next plane
Don't forget the ole rusty trusty, now deceased site.... Swappernet.
Hotluvrs- thats the one
That other site is essentially if Facebook and a swinger site had a love child.
I really feel their community feature is great. I have always felt that SLS’s groups feature is just big utilized. Then again SLS seems to have less user experience and involvement compared to KatCity. Pretty sure that KatCity is also more utilized by the 45 and under crowd, which seems more comfortable with participating. Pictures are also easy to manage and it beaks down profile preferences to make it easier to search.
Catchy,
I don’t agree with your opinion of that other site. I think it’s clunky, my email box gets full of swinger spam, and the layout makes my eyeballs spin. I wish they had an events calendar like SLS.
I do agree that it’s not very useful for this area. Most of our email is from members from Vegas and California.
VaB,
We had great success in your area with another site. I won’t say the name, but the initials are S D C.
Funny story on University of Sydney; Dolph Lundgren aka Ivan Drago graduated from their with an engineering degree. So if the site dies, it dies...
It's those damn people at Sydney University that broke in and stole all our pictures. Oh why oh why didn't I have that disclaimer? Now they're going to use my pictures for research. Damn!!! ;-)
“ i’m likely going to delete all but one or two of my pics after this latest...uhm...”issue” with security on the site.”
^^^^^THIS^^^^^
They would currently have our most current ones, if they did get breeched, so no rush, yet after.

The site Fokkers referenced is absolutely superior to SLS in every way except their regional presence. We’ve yet to find a site that has traction locally like SLS
As a business owner, if I had a vocal group discussing which competitors are better and who I’d...well, my first though was “lose my mind” but really what I’d do is “fucking listen”. They’re telling me how to make money and grow my business at the same time It would take an incredible degree of ignorant arrogance not to listen
I have my doubts as to a security issue. I'm gonna guess that sls just crashed for reasons we may never know.
Digital traffic isn't free.
"I'm seriously surprised that the photos are back up."
Wouldn't be funny if everyone's pics ended up on the wrong profiles?
We have primarily used another site since moving to Florida. It doesn't have a strong presence outside of the southeast, but here it's very popular.
I hope you didn’t actually try and look up “KatCity’...
