That's been a constant topic on some vanilla sites I participate in for awhile now. Plus, I see it on my own PCs (I use different browsers for different things, mostly at work, but even for home).
Pet Peeves
Sorillo, thanks for the explanation. I understand your point about raising the word count; seems that is the total answer, or else they would just go with the embedded comment and skip the sometimes non-presentation of the tweet itself.
Actually there's a practical reason for that. I've noticed that in the last 2 years or so, some browser versions have problems displaying Twitter. So without retyping, the story becomes kind of nonsensical when the audience tries to read it.
The other practical reason is that journalists are getting sloppier and lazier, and retyping the Twitter content is an easy way to get the word count up on each story.
More and more lately, in various media, news articles that embed copies of a tweet, etc, AND then ALSO tell you within the article what the tweet says. Are we supposed to be too dumb to comprehend from just the tweet OR the explanation??
Mot, I was gone for 5 years and gladly, I still see a lot of the same people. Quite a few look like they haven't aged one bit. I'll have to ask about the secret.
It was a political candidate video.
I wanted to hear their voice, and see how they came across, demeanor, etc.
Hard to get that with the written word.
Although I hardly watch any videos...
I hate autoplay shit.
I also almost never want to watch a news video - I want to read the article. If I see a headline and after clicking all it is is a video, I back out immediately.
Ain't nobody got time for that.
I usually browse the intertubes with the sound off on my computer.
But occasionally I want to watch a news clip with sound.
What is with these pages that have multiple videos on the same page all going at the same time.
I click on one page, and there are four videos that auto start? So I have to pause the other three so I can listen to the one?
WTF?
One of my PP is when you're sitting at a red light, at a multilane intersection, and you want to turn right. And there's that one fucker in front of you going straight. Why the hell did he have to get all the way over to the curb land. He knew people would be turning. And his is Memphis, in the summer we have at least one road rage shooting a week.
njny, you must have had a premonition. I'm going to use you next time I buy lottery tickets.
Mrs. TBR is the same way with a lot of foods.
Her mom was on welfare for her entire life, so things like bacon and ham she hated when she was a kid.
Hubby is quite the connoisseur when it comes to many things. Top among them is coffee and beer. He loves trying new blends and flavors of coffee as well as various brews. One of the best things for him is that a personal friend of ours owns a specialty beer shop near by.
njny I don’t think you can keep Tasters Choice in a pantry. I think it has to be kept in a cupboard for best taste.
I've only recently begun even liking coffee, because as it turns out I've had nothing but cheap shit put in front of me forever. Now that I've got a Nespresso machine and can make really good ultra-strong espressos and very dark roast coffees I actually like it.
Kind of like lots of other foods I grew up hating, not because there is anything wrong with them, but because my parents always bought the cheapest and lousiest of everything.
“What’s the point of decaf coffee or non-alcoholic beer?”
They still sell Sanka, so...I haven’t seen that since my parents had their swinger friends over when I was little.
"What's the point of answering a rhetorical question?"
LOL.
Gotcha...
"What's the point of answering a rhetorical question?"
Perhaps to demonstrate the futility of asking them? ;-)
I don't even like coffee, but the caffeine in decaf is just enough on days when I'm dragging a little and for some reason works differently than black or green tea.
Oh and some people have come to depend on the laxative effect of coffee, which for some people stimulates a rather vigorous bowel movement. This is not due to caffeine - decaffeinated coffee has the same effect on those people.
The causative agent of this effect has still not been identified. I would think it would be rather easy to figure out, actually.... I wonder why it hasn't been accomplished yet.
"What is the point of decaf coffee or non-alcoholic beer? "
I imagine it's similar to why people eat simulated meat.. it's not that they don't like the taste, mouthfeel etc - in fact, they usually miss it quite a bit - it's that they have an adversion one way or another to what it's made of or how it makes them feel.
I'm guessing, though, your question is rhetorical. So I'll pose one back to you.
What's the point of answering a rhetorical question?

"NPR reported yesterday that Disney has raised prices by 40% in the last year with no decrease in demand. So there will probably be more increases soon."
I just...
Oh never mind;)
We enjoyed Knott's as well.
Maybe one day at Disney and one at Knott's?
NPR reported yesterday that Disney has raised prices by 40% in the last year with no decrease in demand. So there will probably be more increases soon.
tbrm~ it's been quite a while since I lived in San Diego, but I always enjoyed going to Knotts Berry Farm. also a lot cheaper than Disneyland
We have been lucky, and have always either been given free One Day Park Hoppers from friends who work there or standard day passes from her employer. I have done work there enough that I know how to use the employees route so we don't pay for parking either. If you do take the kids make sure that you take enough photos that they will remember that day their whole life.
For Disneyland, I really love both the Anaheim Hotel and the Candy Cane. They're both within easy walking distance, even with a young child. They're not as luxe as the Grand Californian, which is one of my favorite hotels, but they're way more affordable and each has some nice amenities. But, yeah, Disneyland is expensive.
