"Are Koreans really so emotional in everything they say?"

My son is in Korea. He thought he would love it. He doesn't. I don't know about the emotional part, but the cultural misogyny is off the charts.

VA - If you want to see something funny, watch South Park in German. We got stuck in Cologne for 10 days and had 83 channels of cable, all in German. All of the South Park characters seemed more angry/emotional, especially Cartman.

FWIW - Luckily we were able to find a Firestick so we could watch shows in English, but it was pretty hillarious.

When watching any Korean TV...

Are Koreans really so emotional in everything they say? They always seem overly angry/happy/whatever. If they are the least bit displeased they are either speaking in a low threatening tone or just shouting. Is this just for effect on TV or are they like this in everyday life?

In a shitted vs. shat discussion, someone will get their shit blocked.

It's just a matter of time.

I wonder if 'shat' is legal to use on an FCC governed entity, i. e. public TV and public radio? One can say all of the profane words on an FCC governed entity if there is no dump out button, but then they would be heavily fined and more than likely fired. But, it is possible to do it.

The 'dump button' is now commonplace with public digital TV broadcast and public digital radio broadcast and is part of an intentional broadcast delay of ten or so seconds from exact live broadcast to TV or radio receive of signal. This is done so that the TV or radio broadcaster can 'dump out' of the broadcast if profane language is used by someone. This is the exact explanation of when you are watching a sporting event on TV and hear a brief dump out of the background noise (mostly audience noise.) This is 'preventing' that TV station from being fined by the FCC. Radio has the same thing and it dumps out the most recent ten-ish seconds of broadcast.

So, if you are employed by TV or radio and work in front of the camera or microphone and know that the station has a dump button, have fucking at it and drop a profanity laden rant! Just be prepared for the consequences! :-D

Shat is a much funnier word than shit anyway.

Re. shat - save the irregular verbs.

I love them and they're disappearing. Copy editors have been eliminating them from books for years, coming up with things like "clinged" when the actual past tense of cling is clung. Getting rid of "might" is the one that annoys me the most, though.

I have often heard that shat is the past-tense of shit. I never really bothered to look it up, until now...

Shat.

And that is a real word. First time I saw it was in Stephen King's "It".

Bensalem, PA, Us

Ok... Then, what is the past-tense of 'shit?' :-D

Dang. While back-formations are sort of hypothetical words in some cases, "gruntled" actually appears in the Oxford English dictionary.

It cites some examples, going back as far as 1938. However, all cited examples are sort of a sarcastic usage of the back-formation, much in the way I used it. In other words - there dont seem to be any examples of the use of the word on its own, and only as a retort to disgruntled. Nobody seems to have ever described themselves or someone else ae "gruntled" except to demonstrate that they are no longer disgruntled.

JW: if someone was disgruntled but no longer is, how could you describe them now?

Are they simply "gruntled"? Or possibly "regruntled"?

A disgruntled client called me and excoriated me for what she perceived to be my disheveled billing practices.

What are the antonyms of excoriated and disheveled?

I'm hoping that after I shevel myself and have been coriated, she is gruntled.

Complaining has lessened over time.

Moving forward... The final exam is due tomorrow night at midnight; I got it in today. It was a timed assignment with a maximum time of 180 minutes to complete and submit. I completed and submitted the assignment in 161 minutes. Let's see how the professor grades my final exam.

You always seem to be looking for something to complain about?

What's up with that?

Life is too short to complain about the little things.

When you get your degree/cert/whatever no one is going to ask you your GPA...

"It is difficult when someone gives you a guideline but not specific boundaries to stay within."

Consider that an opportunity rather than an obstacle.

Bensalem, PA, Us

In this particular case with this professor that I am dealing with, yes. I can do a copy and paste of everything in a chronological order, if anyone really cares to see what I am dealing with in this particular case. But, that honestly would not be beneficial to anyone. It sucks that the professor gives 'in writing' an assignment that 'does not' have specific boundaries that he wants his students to stay within and then chastises me for not doing as he asked. When I've rebutted and stated he should give clear boundaries, he adds the points back in that were deducted.

It is difficult when someone gives you a guideline but not specific boundaries to stay within. Bad bosses, bad instructors/professors/teachers, they all must come from the same school as BMW and Tesla drivers... Asshole School!

@melvin - I went to college at night to get my degree while I was working full-time. While my company paid for the course at 100% so long as I passed, others were on a sliding scale. That means they got something like 100% for an A, 80% for a B, and 60% for a C.

We had a new teacher that played games like you mentioned. On the final, he specifically told us there would be no questions on specific chapters and to not bother with them. As I recall, there were 4-5 questions out of a test with about 30 or so questions that were on the chapters he told us we could ignore.

I didn't trust him and at least skimmed those chapters. Before I took a test I would skim the whole test noting questions I didn't immediately know the answer for. I raised my hand not 2 mins into the final after reviewing the test and asked why the test had questions on sections of the book he told us to ignore.

There was a LOT of grumbling from my classmates. After the test, each went to the registrar's office and told them they would NEVER take another course that this guy taught. While it didn't cost me any money (I passed with a B+), I did the same. That B+ was my lowest grade for all courses for my bachelors degree. Worse part was it was for a BS elective no less. We never saw that teacher again.

I will say though that night school is a completely differently animal than going days. All good teachers accounted for the fact that most students are working jobs and/or raising families. People in general frown on others that needlessly take money away from them or their family.

Arguing with your professor is usually as productive as arguing with your manager.

Bensalem, PA, Us

Just wondering...

Is it right to argue with your college professor because you followed the 'exact' way he wrote the guidelines for a submission, but grades the submission biased because he states that the submission is not what he desired? It is the same thing in my mind of people saying "do as I say, not as I do."

“ Anyone else have this experience?”

Not a blue gumby, but several times ive had someone who I never met offer to “bestow” a cert.

I had 2 genuine certs, then came to the conclusion that they lack value if you can’t see the other persons profile.

I deleted them.
