Wkend and a few others hit the nail on the head.
I am about as lean as I can go and I am still at over overweight BMI
Water is the best~most accurate out of electrical, skin measuring or just a phone app.

A weight-loss Dr told me that using a BMI as a way to determine health has variable results. For instance if you are very muscled, it will show you're obese. He uses BMI as a very loose guideline; there are too many factors and exceptions for it to be accurate. However, in general, a lot of us need to lower it.
Sedentary careers can be just awful, and I hate to exercise, but I'll strap on a pack and hike that hill!
I just want to not die from something I could prevent, and there's a lot of heart disease in my family, so my daughter (who is a personal trainer) is helping me stay motivated.
Why use BMI which is about as accurate as a blind person shooting a rifle at a target. Get your BF%--- preferably from submersion in a water-tank which is extremely accurate.
BMI gets shit on constantly, I used to do it too until I really got in shape and realized, no I just needed to lose weight.
Most BMI failures are not people on the high side but people "healthy" who are so out of shape that their body fat % is in the unhealthy range even if their BMI is normal.
Almost no women can naturally have a high BMI and be in the healthy range.
Few men can, and its almost impossible to get to obese levels without the help of PEDs for most men.
BMI is a very arbitrary number. Weight in KG over Height in cm squared. So what does that mean. Not really very much. This is like many things that fall along a regular distribution curve. The closer you are to average, the more likely the predictions made by BMI are meaningful. These predictions typically take nothing but BMI into account. Do you have a high BMI, but exercise 5 days a week? Do you have a low BMI but sit in front of the TV and smoke? On average, being in a higher BMI zone has risks. That has to be tempered with the reality of the person. My BMI tends to fall in the obese range, around 30. I am cycling anywhere from 100-200 miles a week. I'm in good shape. I could eat better, but I'm way healthier than the average American. I'm just a big wide guy. BMI has me overweight at 190. When I lived in Fl I played beach volleyball 6 days a week for hours, and that is the only time as an adult I was close. It's just a number. You have to consider other mitigating factors. That could also be applied in reverse. You could have a normal BMI on a very slight frame and still be at a higher risk.
BMI Scale: 1 style of many is an Omron scale, now w technology more options r available
Height 2 weight ratio is the important item for many. I'm sure a decent % of people, couples do want fit people or person for many reasons.- possible more energy as not always, healthier attitude possibly, heightened sex drive of more possibilities, better looking of caring of oneself, easier to see what U r striving 2 achieve, healthy side is more of a mental need & physical enticement. Next is attitude-
BMI works very well for average people not weight lifters.
BMI is a USELESS ratio. My BMI is almost 27. Do I look overweight? I'm around 6-7% bodyfat. What does BMI tell about me? Or anyone else? It's just an arbitrary ratio.
Sheplays BMI like the blood pressure machines are for average people only. i life weights, not like your husband but i have muscular arms. All the blood pressure machines that work for average arms reads ten points high for those who life weights.
My BMI is fine just a couples of points high because of my muscle mass. Now when i was on steroids trying to play ball in college i was thirty pounds heavier and the BMi would not work.
BMI is a general concept of convenience that can be totally ludicrous.
Using a BMI calculator, my husband is obese. Using calipers with their charts, his body fat runs about 10% these days at the very bottom of the chart ... since his arms together measure more than his 30 inch waist, and you cannot pinch anything on him anywhere but skin, I'm pretty sure he's not obese! LOL
just go online and use a BMI calculator.
Check amazon, I researched them a few years back when i first bought mine. It takes into account , not entirely sure, age, weight, gender, height, etc. Then it asks you how much you exercise, normal is "x" amount of hours working out each week, athletic is "x" amount etc. The best way supposidly is method where you hop in a tank of water and it measures your bmi but its suppose to cost a bit of money to do.
I never knew that there are BMI scales. Its a calculation of height and weight.
I've got one of those scales for measuring BMI but I think its hard to correctly gauge. If its set to "normal", i'm like 18% but if its set to "athletic" i'm like 8%. I"d day somewhere in between. It also can flucuate with in a day, normally it reads lower late at night when my body has more water taken in.
BMI was designed for a easy way to measure the amount of body fat on a person. Using a calculator by itself works for most people except for the few with a lot of muscle mass.
The real way to measure BMI also includes a measurement of ones waist. Life insurance companies created BMI trying to find a quick way to measure a applicants general heath without taking blood. It turned out applicants would rather give blood then have a tape measure around their waist.
When i was in high school and college sports my extra muscle mass had me at 172lbs and once with roids at 195 lbs. I am 5'10". My waist measurements are 32". Based on the size of pants i wear. today i weight 160 with the same size of pants. A tape measure added to the BMI would have give a very accurate measurement of my body fat and health at any level of muscle mass.
BMI's were created for wrestlers. They really don't accurately gauge your fitness level and should be taken with a HUGE grain of salt. They are just a guideline. At 6'7" my BMI puts me at 28, which is a hair under obese. If you look at my profile, nothing there would indicate obese. The problem: muscle mass is dismissed in it. You can be 200lbs of pure muscle and according to your height could be obese.
Putting it another way: Superman (1978) when he was talking to Lois Lane in their interview on the terrace said he was "6'4" 2...225"
That puts his BMI at 27. Making him at overweight. SUPERMAN. I don't know a man or woman alive who doesn't think that Chris was hot as hell in that movie. You really need to worry more about %body fat. Which is harder to measure.
Since this was brought up in another thread i was wondering what everyone's BMI was. Since this is a fitness thread it made me curious.
My BMI is 22.8 which does take into account my extra muscle. Mrs is 20.6 which is normal healthy for her height.
