Slow, ok online, but app version boots me out. Not such an improvement, more like another disaster, argh!
Our web site
He will just delay restoring our profiles as long as possible just to fuck with us. I agree. It is very childish. Time for a letter!
Do not trust the red dot indicating messages. I have a new message but it indicates "0"
and it is gone again lol..
Winded when we will get our access back. Pretty childish to say the least.
Yep. They give you detention if you talk about the poor practices. Then they keep deleting our posts as of they don't exist.
Well its just like going to the principles office or detention. What they have not understood yet is that they need us (at 18,000 members and growing) much more than we now need them.
Reconnecting............reconnecting..........reconnecting..............always reconnecting.............
As best I can tell, the “Wall” is similar to FB in that you can post something there, and the people with whom you’ve “friended” can see it. But only them. It’s a feature I, also, have not utilized because I don’t use the “friend” feature. So if a tree falls in the forest….
And, quite frankly, I’m here to meet new people. So if I’m not friends with them… oh, never mind.
Anyway, I’m seeing sporadic glimmers of hope every now and then. Again, I’m here just a year so don’t know the site in its former glory. But what I can say is that, even with its glitches, I still like it and find it’s a great way to meet people; either by profiles/messaging, Hot Dates, event announcements etc.
~LMK~
Hot Dates is actually working for me right now, but the nature of this beast seems to be that certain things work for certain people at certain times. It could well be it is not working for others, and may not work for me tomorrow.
Apparently we can use our "Wall" to post notes, but the Wall is yet another relatively new feature I don't use.
This you have 0 messages! alert issue. I'd think this would be one IF statement... if message_oount() > 0 then display. How hard can this be... especially since it USED to work. Just un-do what ya messed up. Scheesch.
Taking more than about an hour to fix an issue like this makes me wonder if the backend hackers have a clue. Seriously...
I know, code can be complex, it always does exactly what you tell it to do, not what you want it to do... but... it shouldn't be this wonky.
@CandB, it sounds like hot dates was collateral damage if something else and now the IM notification is collateral damage of fixing the hot dates.
Nothing seems to be working right now. So frustrating!!
Why are they even messing around with "hot dates"? Was it really broken.
Fix the problems that the community keeps complaining about --
I'd suggest they focus on the messaging system. Build a NEW e-mail module from scratch that actually works properly.
No more losing messages into neverland, fix the notifications, and restore the original e-mail functionality. Long messages, proper text formatting, timestamped message has-been-read/has-been-deleted notifications, attachments, mailing lists, block-lists, e-mailed or SMS notices when you have new messages etc... like a properly functioning email system. This would go a long ways to satisfy the paying users.
Just an FYI we got a note that our account is taken down for rude or threatening other members. When did we threaten anyone?
It appears as though this latest revision is in fact a downgrade. Slower speed and lack of connection is the norm. Getting on SLS seems just like going to work with the fustration present.
Duke, they’ve had an app since around 2013 then shortly after the revamped the site to it current iteration and it’s never been quite right.
a lot of these issues started when they added the app. may be time to look for a new site
Wayne, do we think things here don’t work intentionally? No. The issue is like death by a million cuts though. This sentiment comes from so many of us having problems every day, from chats not loading to getting 404 and 502 errors when loading pages, to the chat cams not loading to messages going missing or taking forever to send. I could go on.
I’ve never used a website that has this many issues.
The site is meant for us to communicate with others, so when we can’t perform the express purpose of the site, it’s extremely frustrating.
I don't get why the "developer/s" are allowed to be hacking around on the production site that is in live operation.
It's like they break stuff, they're clueless and have no revision control, and can't figure out how to fix what they just broke.
This boggles my mind as somebody who has been in the world of IT. If one of my guys was goobering around on live system code, and it wasn't some kind of serious emergency... well, it wouldn't be a good career move.
In any of my groups they'd be changing code on the "beta", "sandbox" or "test" site that is used for internal development. Only once all the changes and updates are tested and validated on the "sandbox" system then a downtime event of maybe an hour is scheduled and announced to the users. You then take down the production system, replace the code by pulling in the updated (and tested) "sandbox" system code, and restart the live production system.
Downtime should really be about 15 minutes, and the customers shouldn't be the ones finding all the bugs.
This is standard dev protocol everywhere I've been. Makes me... wonder... about the folks who seem to be hacking at the website code who keep things so... interesting here. WTaF.
Clearly you need better developers. Ones that want to be paid real money. There is no way around it.
Wayne,
Do I really think you intentionally want the hot dates to be down all week? No, not intentionally. Do I think SLS could show more urgency to get it fixed? Absolutely. All web sites can experience issues, but this one takes extraordinary long to fix any issue it has. For how long now have users been kicked off the web site, or had issues with disappearing messages?
Anyone else getting their location changed randomly? We’ve been contacted by a few couples from CA. Somehow our location changed this morning to Beverly Hills.
Agree with M&C here.
Wayne, of course we don’t think that the powers that be actively want issues with the site. That said, they’ve shown no real interest or urgency to take action to actually improve the end user experience so the general consensus from the user base is they just don’t really care. The same problems have existed for over a year in some cases. Is it unreasonable for the members to be unhappy with that? If anyone here hired a web dev team and had the constant issues, would they keep them gainfully employed? Most people would likely answer no. We all love the network and the community. We want to see it thrive, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to voice concerns in the hopes they’ll be addressed.
It is truly unfortunate the hot dates feature has been down for a week. It was the only way to reach out to people and potentially not get ignored or even blocked-particularly for single guys no matter how polite their initial outreach. This site seems to really work best for couples who attend events. I can't imagine any singles staying here if the hot dates cannot be fixed.
