If you block them all no one can view your profile.

I think Wayne would have to comment on whether that would be an acceptable, temporary solution.
Doesn't work. You are not allowed to have more than 2 categories blocked
We are actually working on such a feature.

But just to make sure I understand, by "deactivate", you mean that no one will see your profile and you will not be able to login and use the site?
By deactivate I mean that the entire profile is gone from view, nobody can see the profile or send messages or anything else. No message is generated saying the profile is deactivated. It's like the profile never existed until it's turned back on again

When the account is reaccessed it comes out of the "deactivated" state and reverts back to being an "active" profile. Consider it to function as an "off / on" switch. This entirely different from the profile being deleted
Thank you. That is how it will be done. Note that you can do that now, it just requires a staff member to do it for you and then undo.
Thanks....that must be one of the hidden, undocumented features

Being a member of the 258 mile high club would be awesome.

Just think of the possibilities. On the ISS, even a BBW can be a spinner.
" Do nothing. Just stop logging into the site while you are away. Your profile stops being shown in searches after 30 days of no logins."

That seems like the most logical suggestion to me.
I wasn't aware of that. Are you sure?

Still would be nice to have a Disable Account button, that way the account is immediately disabled, not 30 days later. I don't like the idea of people contacting me and me not replying, even if to say not interested. I feel like not replying is ignorant and being a single guy I can't afford to let someone thing I'm being a jerk by not replying. Being a single guy is not as easy as being a couple where you get lots of contacts. Single guys can't afford to screw up, hard enough getting contacted the way it is

Do you get messages from penguins or seals when you change your location to Antarctica?
.....mainly polar bears, problem is they leave nasty claw marks on your back if they don't trim their nails
Those aren't polar bears, they're fake, i.e. scammerbears.

Polar bears don't live in Antarctica, they live at the top of the world; in the Arctic. As far away from penguins as they can get.

I think penguin poop is like polar bear kryptonite.
Would be nice to have a way to temporarily disable an account without deleting it or changing the location to Antartica
Right now, you cannot disable your profile yourself. That is an option the business is looking into for swing.com. We do not want members to be able to use the site and be completely hidden because that encourages looky-loos and potentially stalkers. Here are my suggestions:

1) Do nothing. Just stop logging into the site while you are away. Your profile stops being shown in searches after 30 days of no logins.

2) Put "Taking a break" in your Tagline and do nothing else. Respectful people and people who read will honor that. The others are not going to honor anything, no matter what you do. Those can be ignored.

3) You can hide from 2 of the 3 profile types. Hide from single males and couples and that will stop 99% of the messages.

4) You can contact support and we can disable your whole profile as being inactive. You will not be able to use most features of the site and no one will see your profile. You do have to contact us and wait for us to do that and you would need to contact us again to turn it back on when you are ready to return.

I think Wayne would have to comment on whether that would be an acceptable, temporary solution.
I'm sure that would work, and have done exactly that over the years, plus would also change my location to Antartica just to be safe. I'm not 100% positive (don't remember) but the last time I attempted to block all profile types it required at least 1 to remain unblocked. Doesn't "No Interest" still leave the account visible and people can still IM me? I don't want people contacting me and me not replying, would rather not have my profile visible

An option to disable an account would be more intuitive for a lot of people, myself included, plus I would know my account is disabled not just hoping that it is. That's probably the main reason so many people have their location set as Antartica

My consulting/training job and personal lifestyle has me traveling a lot, sometimes for months on end. I have accounts on several other sites and when I'm not going to be around I just hit "Disable Account". When I return I hit "Restore my account", easy. Currently, I don't have any plans to not be around and no need to disable my account, I was just curious if the option was available and couldn't find anything
