I'm not using the 3 sea shells
Prepper stuff
The leaves are a little dry and cold up here in New England at the moment .
Believe it or not , a smooth river rock is a great substitute.
TOILET PAPER!!!!
It doesn't get any more important!
Socks and leaves suck!
I'll check it out thanks
For anyone interested: bear independent on YouTube has a ton of pertinent information on this topic. I realize his world view isn't for everyone, but "chew the meat and spit out the bones" applies here.
We have some heavy rains and wind coming into New England tonight. I will go get 10 gallons of gas for the generator just in case . If we don’t use it for the generator, it goes into the vehicles next week .
@AZ: completely agree. Once you onboard a few unpleasant realities, you become aware of how vulnerable we have made ourselves.
We have it easy compared to people that lived 200 years ago .
Prepping can take you down a bit of a rabbit hole to be honest. I became interested in it when my job required me to do a business continuity plan that included keeping the lights on for our mini data center. I found out how easily our infrastructure and supply chains are disrupted and it really opened my eyes to the need to not be so reliant on things everyone takes for granted.
I got tired of jump starting equipment that doesn't move much, so I just put a charger on everything.
I threw some lifepo4's in a garbage can to do the same thing. Probably need to do more of that. All my panels are 200w and I have a couple 100's. I'll pick up a couple small ones on marketplace, good idea. I'll throw one on my tractor as a trickle charger ...Thanks
@flip: I have dozens of little solar panels around my place, acting as trickle chargers on lawn mowers, SxS, 4 wheeler, ect. They are roughly the size of a laptop. They work better than you think. I've got a 55G drum that's been converted into a 3 layer faraday cage. I have several of those small panels, 6v sealed batteries, inverters, ect.
I Need to find some monster sized faraday bags. Have some for laptops. Cells. Etc but not big enough for a solar panel lol
EMP's natural or man made are bad ju-ju. In my opinion (if you get a solar kill shot) your looking at 90% of the human population dead in 6 weeks.
This is good & bad. It means that if you can survive the initial "SHTF" and make it a couple of months, people no longer become your #1 threat.
As for my own preparation for that exact scenario. EMP boxes on my house & vehicles (I cannot say that these work, might be snake oil. Only one way to test them, lmao) and I have back up comms, chargers, solar panels, ect that are triple nested in faraday cages.
Other than that, I prep* like everyone else for the most part.
Molly and I will be waiting at the bar while you guys kill zombies. Let us know when you're done.
@marion, emp is the scariest to me. That puts us back in the dark ages. That's serious devastation and loss of life within weeks probably. Mind sharing with the class what you've done ?
@AZ: the people you are talking about, think they are going camping. They've never used their shit. And* they represent the vast majority of people.
Everything I need is at my house . No need to bug out unless the house is threatened .
I used to teach preparedness classes to a large group here in Phoenix. I was always stunned at how many people's plan was to grab a go bag and head out into wild. They had such a romanticized idea of what would happen when/if shtf.
Prepared* is relative. I'm strong in some areas & weak in others. It depends on the situation.
EMP's (solar or man made), polar flip, mass civil unrest, famine, nuclear Holocaust... I'm in decent shape.
My particular "prepper fantasy" is solar EMP. That's what I learned towards in my preps.
I can’t say I’m even prepared , you can’t plan for everything.
Due to my work I was away from home during most of the major hurricanes and snow storms that hit our area in the past 15 years .
Once I was able to go home and show the kids how to work the generator if they needed it .
Then I've not prepared very well. Obvs.
A good rule to keep in mind , don’t trust anyone.
If shit goes bad , friends will to !
And if there’s nobody to trade with ?
I can't even kill chickens, so rabbits are safe from me (they scream and it's awful). I really do think that crowdsourcing is a better plan than every man for himself, but 50/50 it's because I know I don't want to kill anything and would prefer to trade what I can do for what I can't.
