Prepper stuff

My mother's goat ate nearly all of my books because my mother didn't listen when I said to put them all in the garage rafters while I was out of the country. Instead, she put them in the hay barn, the goat's idea of heaven and the place she devoted most of her brainpower into figuring out ways to break into.

Goats will eat anything. They're also ridiculously smart.

Goats milk isn't for everyone, but it's super easy to make unaged cheese and yogurt, along with (a little more complicated) soap.

Be careful lol our goat was polite ,if you will and just ate weeds and grass . I went to a friend's house and we were out by the pool and his wife's goat ate the stucco sidding and Styrofoam backing of the house . Wtf he said , no way I had to walk away as it was pretty funny my laughter broke but not funny to him .

Have read that about them producing more milk than you think. I'm not sure id actually drink it unless forced to. I just wanna have the ability to. Same with meat.

Go for Pygmy goats. They're generally friendly and sociable, give more milk than you might think, and eat less than their bigger cousins. Also, billy goats are beyond disgusting. Even those without a personality disorder pee on their own heads.

We have a couple guys around here who rent out herds of goats if you have an area overrun with Buckthorn or any other invasive plants. After a week or two, those goats have the entire area cleaned up.

I know nothing about goats. Sheep, a little. Beef more... venison a bunch.

Goats eat everything they can get their mouth on . A friend of mine was left a goat for a week , the owner never came back . It was tied to a tree with a 20 foot rope . All the vegetation in that 20 foot circle was gone in a few days , even the bark on tree’s.

Wife's been after me to get goats. Anyone here have them or experience with them ? Been doing some looking into it and first thing they say is good fencing and cover which is easy to do myself, and keep the water clean which I think I can do easily. She wants pets but i want milk and the possibility to have meat here. Plus I like them.

I also take pickle brine, when I’ve finished a jar, and put other veggies into it.

Pickle brine also makes a great marinade for chicken.

You don't have to learn to can in order to make half-sour dill pickles. Not a long shelf life, but they're delicious. I've made them with pickling and lemon cucumbers.

I would love to make my own pickles.

Wife does it the last 6 or 8 months. Depending on what she cans. It's really tasty and can last quite a while. With any luck the veggies I planted yesterday and this coming weekend will grow and she can can a bunch of it.

I’ve thought about getting into canning. My mom did it when I was a kid. Looked fairly straightforward.

Thinking about getting a freeze dryer. Can probably rent it out to cover the cost plus we would use it around here.

Lots of people use the 7 meals plan. We adjusted it to the 12 meals plan for more variety. A few hundred pounds of freeze dried meat & a little planning gives you a rotating stock of one years food. Buy the meat fresh or like us, get a years worth of venison during hunting season. Then if something happens, break into the freeze dried stuff.

Prepping bulk shelf stable foods is surprisingly easy and inexpensive. The problem is most look at the prices from emergency food suppliers and balk at the cost without looking into doing it themselves.

The war in Gaza has taken an interesting but expected turn. Apparently famine is growing into a significant problem. In just 5 months gaza has risen to the number 1 place on planet Earth that are dying or at risk of dying from starvation.

That's a pepper takeaway if I've ever seen one. These people have lived in an active conflict zone their entire life, but failed to prepare for one of the most basic needs.

In every conflict in human history right up to the beginning of GWOT, sickness and dietary related issues typically account for over half of the casualties on both sides.

My brother in law works for a paper company. He drops off boxes of tissues and packages of toilet paper quite often .

We have plenty to barter with if we have to.
