Prepper stuff

Danbury, CT, Us

You never know when some skills can come in handy . I used to spend a lot of time outdoors in winter and always was prepared , I carried a pack with the essentials . The day I didn’t carry that pack was the day I needed it .

Just hoping for luck cause we will need some luck. Can't prep for everything

@b&c, no, id much rather not try it unless it's forced on us. Then I can only pray and hope for some luck.

I have been out in the wilderness with no food , firearm , water or shelter . After 3 to 4 days of eating bugs ,frog legs , berries and roots you’re pretty much mentally and physically exhausted . Not every trap gets a rabbit. Not every stream has fish ,Not every spark starts a fire .

Try it sometime.

"And to all the people from city's and from out of State that think they are just going to come here to escape the shitholes that they live in, forget it! Sheriffs Dept has contingency plans to deputize people and block all ingress."

I was nodding my head the entire time until I got here and then had a flashback to every dystopian apocalyptic novel I've ever read, along with most articles about doomsday preppers.

I have only 5 acres, but I don't need any more land. Everyone around me has all kinds of land. They don't care if I go on it, I can take a rifle and walk out of my door and hunt in the woods all day long , so I don't need any more land. Our home was built in the late 1800's, We have a wood stove, which I cut our own wood to burn from our own land, also have a heat pump and oil furnace. We have a small pond with drinkable spring water , We can our own vegetables from our garden, and also jar Venison if we want to. We can survive if we have to. Yes I own firearms, and so do most people around here. And to all the people from city's and from out of State that think they are just going to come here to escape the shitholes that they live in, forget it! Sheriffs Dept has contingency plans to deputize people and block all ingress.

My best friend is about 1/2 mile away and my neighbor has 70 acres with a lake that he stocks. That's all I got, other than a couple of local farms that I've got a pretty good relationship with.

"The "lone prepper" concept is suicide."

I totally agree. But just like most preppers don't make the connection that first you really need a base level of fitness, much of the discussion (not in books, not unless you're Cormac McCarthy, but in practice) revolves around the individual or the family, rather than the community.

@GGMM: it takes a village, literally. The "lone prepper" concept is suicide. Like I said earlier, people are the hardest prep to get. Especially ones that will pull their weight and pool their resources.

I have some property in a place with a slightly less extreme climate than Phoenix and if I ever get around to building more than the 400 square foot studio that's already there, it will be as self sufficient as possible, including solar, catchment, and grey water irrigation. But I won't be growing or raising my food. There's room for other people there though, and sharing resources is one of the arguments for at least small communities rather than going it alone.

Sounds like you have a good start. Now, find 12-15 families that share your ideals & are like minded. People are the hardest prep to get.

Oh, Bought an LED grow box to grow "plants" indoors including veggies. Been looking for a deal on an old truck maybe or side x side. I'll buy one at some point.

Didn't wanna clog up that other thread. Curious what some others are doing or have done it anything.

I spent about $800 - 1000 on doomsday stuff I likely will never need but the rest is all good stuff to have around. Dug a 1/2 acre pond, shallow well (for garden/chickens, chickens for eggs and meat, garden, solar system being installed today and I'm gonna build another one this spring (have most of the parts already), generator for backup assuming I can get propane delivered, small gas generator in shed, house in middle of nowhere, well setup to run off my extra generator if I need to. Tons of canned food (wife getting good at canning) few different ways to filter water. Water collection, built a backyard kitchen to cook by fire if needed, hand tools or all kinds, extra batteries for everything, extra meds, pool water to flush toilets or clean stuff if needed, bunch of books on how to do stuff, hand powered radio, couple different size pumps for water, tourniquets, just wish I didn't have that boating accident where I lost my all guns and 5000 rounds of each caliber..
