There are several "things that make you go hmmm" topics here in the Open Forum. So, that in itself makes one go 'hmmm' as to why so many of this category have been created. ;-)
Things have happened to me that have been a saving grace...
- I had constantly been delayed in leaving to go somewhere by all sorts of stupid stuff. If it wasn't for those delays, I would have either seen it happen at the exact moments of impact of serious car accidents or been involved in those serious car accidents, including one that was fatal. This had happened to me at least once every other month for about a six or so year period.
- I've had two different things happen that told me to duck for cover. One saved me from an injury, the other would have been a slaughter on the highway...
The first was way back in the late 90's. I was a laborer for a company that cleaned out houses of people that were evicted. The crew I worked with on this day had stacked a couch on top of the debris in the stake-body truck, earlier in the shift. The couch decided to roll off the pile of debris towards the back of the bed of the truck, while I was standing on and working at the back end of the bed. I ducked down as fast as I could and the couch literally rolled over top of me, with me fitting in the seating area perfectly as it rolled. I was not touched by the couch!
The second was back in late 2017 while driving a commercial vehicle on Interstate 95 in my area on my way back to the shop from a job site. From the factory, there was a supply cabinet that sat in brackets, that was under the front end of the flatbed, on the driver's side. I was in the right hand lane doing the speed limit (the company trucks were speed monitored by GPS) and the supply cabinet's front end drops to the ground! WTF! I emergency pulled over and found that the factory welds for bracket holding the front end of the supply cabinet had broke. I used a combination of flatbed freight holding straps to get the cabinet up in the air. While doing this on a minimal shoulder, I had to duck under the bed of the truck a few times to avoid being hit. Fine, I expected that on an interstate. I limped the truck about a mile further up the road to a wide shoulder and got the supply cabinet firmly secured. What makes me go hmmm is, why I had to again duck under the bed for safety when the shoulder was wide enough. Did cars not see me and why did they roll over the shoulder line?
So, overall, do I have a guardian angel watching over me? Hmmm...
