Friendlyandhorny,

Thanks for keeping the curtains closed. Nobody wants to see that!

By the way, I almost had to unfriend a vanilla friend last night after she ordered a Coke and bourbon. I was really mad, but she changed her order at the last minute to Jameson, so I was merely sad.

Coffee. Sweetened with Desoranto. Charged with 1792 bourbon.

Michelob golden light, but that's not quite cutting it so I'm about to fix a dirty beefeater martini with 3 blue cheese olives.

Tried a Godfather with a 15 yr El Dorado rum. A bit too sweet. Using Three Rose's single barell since it's what I have.

Because its labor day and I'm hanging out by my pool, I have tried using an aged rum (Zaya) instead of bourbon for a godfather. I had done so previously for an old fashioned and liked the result.

Consider trying that.

I've been using famous grouse scotch and Disaronno for my godfather.... Makes for a unique and quite good drink.

Windermere, FL, Us

I've never had a godfather made with scotch like you described. Its always been bourbon for me; the stronger the better. Knob Creek is a good one for it.

Morning coffee now....

I am usually a rye manhatten drinker, but recently discovered the godfather and I'm a fan..... It's unique. And buffalo trace is good stuff. :-)

Kentuck Bourbon Festival Tastings.. ahh the good old days.. will they ever come back?

What great lessons learned, new fun friends, and even the found designated driver enjoyed it !

Our passports were almost full!

Now back to my Makers Mark Ambassador website.. they are offering free tall mint julep glasses with a purchase.. thanks HL almost forgot about that.

Hotluvrs; It's no where near the traditional way, but to protect all the purists out there, we had it at home with the curtains closed ;)

Does it help at all that we at least used a proper glass?

Making tasting tours of the various Kentucky distilleries has shown the variety of taste within bourbon. Though the aromatics and tastes of bourbon aren't as wide as with scotch.

I learned of the Godfather a few years ago. It is almost a daily drink now. Made mainly with Buffalo Trace or 1792.

We actually did the bourbon trail on our bicycles in 2015. Started out from Louisville and rode to Frankfort, Lexington, etc. in a big loop until returning to Louisville. 260 miles or so in 7 days. All stops on the bourbon trail except for Makers Mark, because it is so far out of the way and in an area not well suited to cycling. Well, most of Kentucky isn't.

Actually, only the first day - from Louisville to Frankfort - was real bad. The road from Frankfort to Lexington, the "Old Frankfort Pike" was an especially beautiful ride.

I much love bourbon, and I make an excellent old fashioned and a few other nice cocktails. But my fave, besides neat, is likely a godfather (mentioned just a few posts down).

@hot-we watched the derby. Just seemed out of place not being held in May. I told Rob that they didn't elaborate on Mint Juleps bc no one was there. Even the horses acted up, knowing something wasn't right.

I also really enjoy Buffalo Trace.

I find myself disappointed that no one mentioned a mint julep this weekend, seeing how the run for the roses was yesterday.

Buffalo Trace and Pepsi?!?

What the hell’s going on?

I’m no bourbon fan, but even I know that the only proper way to order a decent bourbon Is “a bourbon and branch, please”. Well, at least that what all my bourbon aficionado friends tell me.

Maybe BT will chime in. I hear that he actually likes the brown stuff.

Buffalo Trace again with some Pepsi (boy, I really like this stuff)

RonKathy, "Johnny Walker.. "Blue".. wow!" YES, we drink Johnny Walker Black or Double Black. We did Gold on Block Island. We have to try the Blue. Is it your regular or a special occasion?
