New members

The cost doesn't seem to be that much to me. Seems a lot of work to be on a site that you're unable to use key features of. I've been an SLSLife for a while and I have met many good people here along the way.

A lot of people join as free members to see if there is anyone worth contacting in their area before spending the money on a membership.
Those that remain free may have decided the options don't meet their needs.
Or in some cases members switch to paid status for short periods of time during the year to make contact then switch back to free status. (I see this a lot in my area)

I suppose it is possible that many of them are not actually couples, but single people instead, posing as couples. I also thought of what was noted below. That is, people using a free account to cruise the SLS site for information on parties at other gatherings.

They can peruse the bar at the bottom of their homepage for clubs, parties, socials, etc. and could find ways to meet many of those already listed as attending.

I noticed an influx of them from our area coming from AFF, but they remain free as well.
