What it comes down to is simply that none of us get to dictate to others how they present themselves in the LS (or in life in general). If you don't like the fact that some folks don't like to put up visible face photos, then don't contact them. Simple solution.

Not everyone takes rejection well. (See my post in WTF) i live in a small town with 2 clubs and 1 group that meets up once a month. The last thing i need is for a butthurt guy to recognize me at one of these places!

Why do ladies hide their faces? I don't know, maybe because they don't want to be outed. This may come as a surprise to you, but, because just like men they have jobs with moral clauses. Or are active in their communities. Or live in small communities where everyone knows everyone.

We've seen coworkers on SLS. And we block them. We'd rather they not know we're here, too.

This has been covered elsewhere if you're really interested in the many answers. One big one is that any teacher outed means a loss of their job and probably a forced career change. Steep price to pay for a "hobby". The short over-arching answer is simply the gains from showing their face are not worth the potential risks.
