I was thinking of the Thanksgiving episode of WKRP where Less Nessman is describing all of the turkeys being released from the helicopter.

I ran the Peace Race a couple of times. One of the few things I miss about Ohio is Mill Creek Park, especially in the fall.

"the great turkey massacre of 2017"
Am I the only one who was thinking this might have involved a VW microbus, the Peace Race, and a flock of turkeys attempting to get to the other side?
Never smoked a turkey but suspect it would take a while. As I recall, frying a turkey takes about 30-45 mins, depending on the size.
I own a turkey fryer but bought it to boil lobster. The peanut oil to fry a bird cost more than the bird, and I'm not sure it stores well (if at all) after use, but fried bird is really fast and really good and the turkey fryers can be found for under $50 as I recall. Just a thought. We also do canning and use it to process the jars, so it has other uses.
The nice thing about smoking is, once it's in the smoker, it usually doesn't require a "lot" of attention, but apparently it can get away from you I guess based on your 2017 massacre...lol
For the Peace Race my husband will be smoking pork shoulders and chicken. The great turkey massacre was last Thanksgiving and we lost four turkeys because he was smoking not only our turkey, but turkeys for several friends. The smoker is rather large, he made it from a stainless steel industrial freezer so we can really feed a crowd.
Thinking a turkey frier would be the way to go for a crowd, but then I'm not a huge fan of smoked fowl, versus say ribs or brisket.
My brother in law and his wife are flying in from Tampa and their oldest daughter is coming in from Chicago for our annual Peace Race party. The race starts at the top of our street and every year we gather with friends and family to cheer on the runners then head to the backyard for the last outdoor party of the year.
Ht 2; My husband got the smoker up and running after the great turkey massacre of 2017 so we can feed all these people.

You're all welcome to join me in the hot tub. The more the merrier!

Sorry to be late to the party (it has been a rather full day), but wanted to congratulate BT for his son's NHS induction. Way to go!
Tigg, please tell me that Melissa is in the hot tub too?

NJNY-thank you! Dream job for us and only 3 miles from our house! We plan to retire with this job!
NJNY-that put a smile on my face picturing y'all having fun and enjoying life together.
HT-My husband only has 2 days left at his current job and then we start our new job together on Monday. We love working together and I am so ready to go back to work.
Chez-what a priceless memory you have of your dad. My husband told me his lunch was amazing today because of the homemade pickles my dad made. My father passed away a week ago but I could clearly hear his voice. My dad and I both loved food and cooking and talking about it. It made me happy.
BT,
Awesome Happy Thought! Congrats. and cherish ALL the memories. I know that no big deal feeling Son's try to claim.
HT: Looking at a photograph in my office of my Mom and late Dad with my two Sons after they played in one of their HS football games. It's one of the most cherished photographs (and memory) I have. I cannot recall my Dad ever missing one of his grandsons' HS football games... He was quite the life of every tailgate party too!
Chez
Congrats BT!
congrats BT that is super
Chez-I believe they know even if they aren't here on this earth. I know my dad enjoyed seeing his family laughing and enjoying our time together, all because of him.
Congrats to you and your son! I remember when both my daughters received that recognition. I was super proud of them and they totally downplayed it.
NL, I was just telling someone this morning how my late mom and dad would have loved to have seen their grandkids grow up.
On that note, tonight, I watched my son as his name was called and he walked to the stage to receive his certificate of membership in the National Honor Society. He told me it was no big deal, but I think it was.
BT
I lodged a complaint on the one not mentioned by good, but I don't know if that had anything to do with it since it was nearly a week before they disappeared
BT & Chez- thank you. I do, and made even more unforgettable memories with family these past couple of days.
XOXO
NL,
Sorry to hear about your Dad. The memories are precious and I'm sure you have very special ones to celebrate.
Chez
I'm sorry for your loss, NaturalLovers.
